No, thanks, you deal with your $10.9 million contract and resulting cap considerations and we'll deal with our $8.5 million contract and resulting cap considerations. Our problem is worse, so we won't be making it $2.4 million worser.

Is this a "good News -- Bad News" joke?
General Manager Craig Conroy goes to Director of Hockey Operations Don Maloney and says, "Don -- I have good news and bad news!"
Maloney says, "Tell me the good news first."
Conroy says, "Well, I got rid of Jonathan Huberdeau's contract . . . "

I'd rather have Kevin Fiala than need to split playing time at center between Anze Kopitar, Phillip Danault and Andrew Cirelli, and we can't afford Cirelli anyway since Rob Blake can no more buy out DuBois than he can trade him at a painful loss.
Teams that have no cap space can't afford to throw Offer Sheets around.

LAK and PIT become friends
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>K_DaBoss</b></div><div>The Kings need a goaltender, Jarry would be a good fit; Smith has a year left on his deal - LAK showed interest at the deadline; Rakell is a year removed from a 30 goal season with only 4 more years - The risk is all on PIT with Pierre's contract and would be his 4th team in 4 years. The upside for the Pens is the youth and for the Kings to rid themselves of 8.5mil by 8 years, hence the cap relief. The Kings are looking at buying out his contract. There's a deal to be made between Dubas and Blake.</div></div>
You're not getting the point -- Los Angeles has no cap room with DuBois' and LaFerriere's cap hits totaling $9.375 million, so how do you expect us to take on $6 million extra in cap?
Retain 50% on each of Rakell, Smith and Jarry and <strong>THEN</strong> there would be a deal to be made between Dubas and Blake. Math is math.
Go on the CapFriendly Kings home page. You'll see that the current projected roster for next season has 12 players and other charges totaling $66.8 million. Taking away DuBois and LaFerriere and adding Rakell, Smith and Jarry adds one additional player and $6 million to those figures. That leaves $14.9 million to spread among one goalie and at least eight skaters, one of whom is Quinton Byfield. Bottom line: we can't afford your unwanted, expensive, short-term, low-value players.

Kings don't need one season of Mitch Marner at $10.9 million <strong>even if</strong> he would be the best player on the team, unless the price were a lot lower than that, which it won't be.

No way LA gives up one of the best prospects around the whole league who also happens to be one of the only three RDs on the roster for next season.

LAK and PIT become friends
The Kings' only conceivable rationale for trading Pierre-Luc DuBois would be to get cap relief, so why in the world would Los Angeles be taking $15.375 million in cap back?
I don't believe for a minute that "Smith & Rakell would assist with scoring talent on the wings" inasmuch as the far younger DuBois and LaFerriere can be expected to improve on their combined 63 points this season and the year older and slower Rakell and Smith probably won't improve on their combined 77 points with the system and center they would have in LA. That's just a pipe dream.

He impressed quite a bit in his regular-season audition after a very good year in Ontario. I think that he makes the team next season, especially because he played all three positions for the Reign and he's a right-shot forward. Expect him to be one of the first RFA re-signings.

We might be somewhat disenchanted with Kaliyev but not enough to dump him for a proven bust.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>U really think the Kings wouldn’t match that?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>I think they would if they could. They've got a lot of contracts coming off the books and about $21M to figure that out. That means a big raise for Byfield, replacements/re-signings for Arvidsson and Roy, and figuring out their goaltending again. How much space are they going to be left with for giving Turcotte over $1M if he's not even become an NHL regular? I agree that I think they'll find a way, but I could see teams trying to take a swing at him and see if they can't nickel and dime Turcotte out of LA.</div></div>
Turcotte's Qualifying Offer is $874,125, so the Kings will tender him $900,000 and he'll be happy to take it. His is the sort of minimum-level contract that Haymaker points out the Kings need.

Blockbuster deal with LA - Dubois
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Any team that WANTS to acquire PLD should have their heads examined. If I’m LAK I would consider it just to get him out. I know all of LAK sucked in the playoffs but the dude took more penalties than he did shots.</div></div>
Sometimes, the pleasure of saying "I told you so" isn't worth the pain of getting there.
Acquiring DuBois never made sense to me because there <strong>was</strong> no hole between two top-6 forwards that needed filling. As a result, DuBois has played with youngsters on his wings who may never develop into top-6 personnel, and Los Angeles doesn't have the cap space to re-sign Viktor Arvidsson (who is the only King who has made DuBois look tenable) and add a LW so that DuBois becomes a productive member of society. So unless Alex Turcotte and Alex LaFerriere (or maybe Akil Thomas) <strong>both</strong> have the kind of breakthrough year that Quint Byfield had this past season, the situation isn't going to improve.

We'd be interested in Binnington, of course, but not in exchanging Byfield for Buchnevich or trading away one of our only three NHL-playable RDs in the system.

No chance that Los Angeles trades Brandt Clarke. Among other things, we only have three RDs on the roster for next season right now, and no one promotable from within. The only possible way that would change is if Marner had pre-negotiated an acceptable extension, and we all know how unlikely that it.

Habs Draft Demidov and Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Antorche</b></div><div>What are Anaheim top 3 guys you want to draft ? Just out of curiosity, cauz I know you have a ton of prospects but which position could use another top 10 pick. Thanks!</div></div>
Our positions of need are RW and RD. So our first two choices would be Celebrini (BPA, ha ha) and Levshunov. I assume that the next tier is among RDs Jiricek, Parekh and Yakemchuk, RW Helenius, and BPA Lindstrom. My choice would be Parekh. I don't include Demidov in the mix because I think that drafting Russians is risky.
I think that we'll have a good shot to select Levshunov at #3. If Chicago stays at #2, in my opinion they're almost certain to take a forward to play with Bedard, and if San Jose loses the #1 spot, they're just as likely to take a forward or LD like Buium or Silayev as they are a RD. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Bingo.
And the reason why is because contrary to belief popular in Montreal, Zegras isn't on the market so it would take an exceptional offer to pry him loose.

24-25 Cap Moves
We have four top-6 left-handed forwards (not incl Cs) on the roster for next year:
Quint Byfield
Kevin Fiala
Adrian Kempe
Trevor Moore
We have the following bottom-6 forwards (not incl Cs) under team control for next season:
Carl Grundstrom
Arthur Kaliyev
Alex LaFerriere
Akil Thomas
Alex Turcotte
And here's the entire list of right-handed defensemen we expect to be in the NHL next season:
Drew Doughty
Jordan Spence
Brandt Clarke
So No, we won't be trading the essential Jordan Spence for the unnecessary Nick Robertson.

Whatever it takes to get Parekh and Nygard
I don't think Minnesota does that. The Wild are still laboring under the Parise - Suter buyouts and adding that much cap when Middleton has proven to fit Minnesota quite well just doesn't seem advantageous, especially if it costs them the 13th overall pick in June. Then there's the additional point that Middleton will be much cheaper to re-sign than Chychrun, and I'm not sure that upgrading the left side of the defense is high on the Wild's list of priorities. I think that you'd be lucky to persuade Bill Guerin to do that even if you substituted one of Minnesota's three A-prospects at LhD for Middleton. Finally, I don't think that the fact that Chychrun's current deal is 50% underwater this year helps.

Fixing the Mess
I think that you've advanced an entirely reasonable and realistic strategy, especially in your Team Description. Well done!
Grundstrom's Qualifying Offer is $1.3 million, so he will become a free agent because <strong>someone</strong> will want him. I think that you're correct in believing that we just won't be able to re-up Lizotte or Grundstrom.
I'm perfectly happy with Englund at #3LD and Kaliyev can almost certainly be re-signed for the $900,000 you've given Grundstrom, so if we reduce Byfield's bridge deal by about a million dollars, we have the space for another player.
Wait'l next year!

The only theory under which Florida would trade young center former first-round draft pick Anton Lundell is if their cap situation forces them to. So they wouldn't be taking back a 31-year-old winger with seven seasons left on a $10.5 million contract.

The Ducks have exactly one NHL-qualified RhD under contract for next season, so it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to trade him away for another RhD.
If we want Boqvist, there are dozens of other assets we can use to acquire him.

I see that you don't know who Quinton Byfield is.
Here's a hint: you have him re-signing for $950,000. We'll be giving him either a long-term deal or, more likely, a bridge deal at around $6 million, give or take half a million.
We won't be trading him unless it's in a package for Mitch Marner inasmuch as we drafted him second overall and he's the best young player that we have.
Matt Roy will get a similar amount for between 4 and 6 seasons.
