LAK and PIT become friends

Description
Waiving all NMC/M-NTC: Jarry would be a fit with LAK's defensive system, Smith & Rakell would assist with scoring talent on the wings, this also rids PIT of Jarry and Rak's contracts, Smith is on his last year. Dubois has fallen out of favor in LA, and PIT is taking a huge risk with this large and lengthy contract but are investing in a center with rebound potential, Laferriere and the 2nd rounder are fair compensation - it's a win/win for both sides. MTL is getting rid of Anderson's contract w/ some retention and receiving a solid, cheaper 4th liner/PK guy in Acciari. PIT will encourage Anderson to bring a physical net front presence to their team. Joseph plays with his brother in OTT. Graves rebounds in UTAH

That Utah trade is heinous.

Montreal definitely doesn't consider that either.

OTT is the only trade I think the other team would consider.

The Kings' only conceivable rationale for trading Pierre-Luc DuBois would be to get cap relief, so why in the world would Los Angeles be taking $15.375 million in cap back?

I don't believe for a minute that "Smith & Rakell would assist with scoring talent on the wings" inasmuch as the far younger DuBois and LaFerriere can be expected to improve on their combined 63 points this season and the year older and slower Rakell and Smith probably won't improve on their combined 77 points with the system and center they would have in LA. That's just a pipe dream.

The Kings need a goaltender, Jarry would be a good fit; Smith has a year left on his deal - LAK showed interest at the deadline; Rakell is a year removed from a 30 goal season with only 4 more years - The risk is all on PIT with Pierre's contract and would be his 4th team in 4 years. The upside for the Pens is the youth and for the Kings to rid themselves of 8.5mil by 8 years, hence the cap relief. The Kings are looking at buying out his contract. There's a deal to be made between Dubas and Blake.

That is correct. You do know Acciari only has 2 years left at 2 mil, and Anderson has 3 years ? This is a handout to MTL. MTL could easily flip him at the deadline to a contender with space for a pick above a 4th. MTL moves on from Anderson and PIT takes another risk in a player who needs a new scene.

MTL says thank you for doing business with the Habs and UTAH needs to hit the floor, I actually wouldn't mind keeping Graves - he'll bounce back and play fine in a 3rd pair role with a steady defender. It usually takes a defense man about a season to fully mesh with his new team and he played much better before injury. He just can't seem to gel with offensive, creative D-men in EK65 and Letang.

It's a tremendous risk for the Penguins, but they need to take some cuts, big GMJR type swings if you will. I do recall Phil Kessel being labeled as a problem child, which he was but 2 Cups is worth the hassle. The hypothetical trades here are always suppose to greatly benefit the other team and the Penguins overpay - per the CapFriendly community (joke). If it works out it gets the Pens younger and a 3rd line center with offensive potential. Also another net front type player in Anderson.

If we're going to apply this logic with the same level of homerism, lets swap the deals to:

-Malkin for one of Utah's 2nds
-Gallagher and a 4th for Karlsson ($2 mil retained)

You're not getting the point -- Los Angeles has no cap room with DuBois' and LaFerriere's cap hits totaling $9.375 million, so how do you expect us to take on $6 million extra in cap?

Retain 50% on each of Rakell, Smith and Jarry and THEN there would be a deal to be made between Dubas and Blake. Math is math.

Go on the CapFriendly Kings home page. You'll see that the current projected roster for next season has 12 players and other charges totaling $66.8 million. Taking away DuBois and LaFerriere and adding Rakell, Smith and Jarry adds one additional player and $6 million to those figures. That leaves $14.9 million to spread among one goalie and at least eight skaters, one of whom is Quinton Byfield. Bottom line: we can't afford your unwanted, expensive, short-term, low-value players.

I recall the High School posters, " Math is Universal " - but Pierre's contract and potential for difficulty is too great. You'd be able to fill out the remaining 3/4 lines, D & backup goalie with ~15 million. The other alternative is buyout PLD - but depending on how long the Finals go, you may get lucky with only paying 1/3 but if he turns 26 you'll be looking at 2/3. I'd be surprised if they keep him on the roster.
