New Jersey Devils 2024 Offseason Discussion Thread #1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Andy Strickland says Craig Berube interviewed, was liked by Devils ownership, but the concern was that the Devils players were too “sensitive” for his coaching style.
(Strickland is a Blues beat reporter with direct ties to Berube).
My guess is Berube didn’t get the job he wanted, so bad-mouthed NJD to a friendly reporter. Good riddance, Craig.
Good luck with Papi, Marner, and Willy</div></div>
Yeah. That sources almost 100% says it came from berube’s side. Sounds like sour grapes

Would Jersey do this
Sell me on why NJD should prefer Rasmussen to Detroit's 1st in a trade like this
My valuation of Walman is around a late 1st or 28th overall. So that would be valuing Rasmussen as around 17th-18th overall based on puckpedia calculations.
I'm not completely turned off, but I'm not an expert on Rasmussen so would need some info from you on his upside, current level, strengths, weaknesses, etc.

for 22-23, he was glued to hamilton all year. who on his own has shown he's a juggeernaut.
now for 21-22, he was elite with Severson, Hamilton, and Subban. I was wrong. you were right. i'll admit that.
I'll even admit, looking at some of the metrics, he does look like he's been a pretty elite defender with the correct pairing in new jersey. but why would the caps want a guy who is coming of an injury that has so obviously hampered his ability to be even a half-decent player. and also keep in mind we watched this guy be a traffic cone for years. he got danced around so much it was like watching him merengue. 1 on 1, guy just would sh1t himself with flatter feet than your mother's chest. that's why she couldn't breastfeed you. which is why you prob have the opinion you do of Siegs. without the teet of your mother. but as far as who is more valuable right now...i'd rather have the younger, more well-rounded, tougher, better skater in Fehervary. Don't try to regift us the garbage we tried to throw out.

My question is what is their plan with Askarov? He seems ready for a bigger role than an AHL goaltender. Do they potentially move him to the NHL roster and trade Lankinen or do they let him have another season as one of the best goaltender's in the AHL

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>He is worth the contract, just not worth the trade demands from fans.
He is also a bit of a hothead. About a week after Ridley Greig slapshot fiasco, Nico Hischier slid the puck into an empty net…in probably the most sporting fashion he could. It was a nothing play. Hischier is an adult, pure class. Brady went nuts and tried to fight him (and pretty much everyone on the ice). Maybe he was showing off for Uncle Fitzy, but it’s not Devils style. It was a little much…might be overselling his brand a bit.</div></div>
Exactly. But I will disagree that he wants to fights. He likes scrums, having the linesmen come into the scrum. Actually one on one fighting not so much.
Funny Leafs Reilly got five game suspension for high sticking a player after the game was over, but Tkachuk nothing. Crazy the Leafs went 5-0 with Reilly suspended including wins in Colorado and Vegas.

Actually think that could be done as long as the trade is before the first buy-out period TB didn't buy him out. So, there wouldn't be the Vinny LeCavelier scenario laid out earlier. It's definitely a move that would probably send non lightning fans into cardiac arrest.
Edit: With that said Amalie arena has a better chance of seeing a foot of snow tomorrow than this.

Our right side appears to be in good shape with Hamilton return, Nemec’s arrival, Marino and eventually, Casey. Bahl is probably the weak link…and is a bit of a mismatch to system we have used over last few seasons (we are getting new coach…so that could change obviously).
I think if Fitzy and Conroy have patched things up, the focus would be about Markstrom.</div></div>
Yeah I agree, but we don't have a lefty to trade you and I want that 10th lol. Just saw Dgibbs comment in a trade saying you'd take Andersson so figured I'd give it a shot.

Interesting. Kudos on putting in the work <a href="/users/NHLfan10506" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@NHLfan10506</a>! Not sure how I missed that thread. It seems the Sound of Hockey and The Athletic use a lot more than just historical trade data to assign value, a sort of "overpayment vs actual value" scale. But if overpayment is what it takes to "get your guy", then so be it. There are roster, contract, and reserve limits to consider, as well. All of which CHI is currently approaching and aren't just going to go away. Not that they are a huge concern, but that just means that we can afford to start throwing more precise darts at the dart board rather than throwing a larger quantity of them. When has 'throwing a fist full of darts' ever really achieved anything, aside from being funny, anyway.

NSH used #15 to select Matt Wood.

Eiserman = Patrik Laine with an Ovi shot
Greentree = Juraj Slafkovsky

Cole Hutson = Torey Krug

Habs can offer more than just Matheson though, you can have him straight up for 10 or any two of Engstrom, Harris, Srtuble, Norlinder or Barron. Personally I would even include Xhekaj but Hughes is intent on keeping him so he is likely off the table too

I think Sean Durzi, and Cam York fit what you're looking for. M. Anderson from LAK would be an amazing add for that pick(you'd probably need to add though). Then you have Byram, and Moeser.
That's everyone I could think of.
