So really, Sammy has probably cost the Leafs 2 to 3 goals. Special Teams have cost the Leafs about 6 goals.</div></div>

Avg is 80-20, among playoff teams its usually skews a touch higher</div></div>
But either way would probs be a 2-2 series so that would be at least something heck maybe we would have been up 3-1 who knows as I believe we had 2-3 PP's to start game 4 and if our PK was better maybe BOS would not have got that PP goal

This might be the unpopular opinion, but I feel like trading Marner <em>now</em> if the Leafs lose is kinda silly. Like I'm as frustrated as anyone with him, but the return will not be good and I know there's thirst for change in the core 4, but Tavares, who is the weakest link, has one year left... the change will come.
Maybe just settle for a new coach this offseason

It's just time.</div></div>
Woodcroft got fired in Edmonton for less. It's just a waste to keep Keefe around. Could he find success elsewhere? Probably. Has he done anything for this organization to warrant staying around? Not even remotely. The best thing he did was replace Mike Babcock. You literally couldn't ask for a better situation to come into, especially seeing as though Babcock set the bar so damn low.

(ANA/CAR/TOR) - Lyubushkin for Slepets for 2025 3rd (TOR), 2024 6th (TOR)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RoughRunner</b></div><div>For those saying the double retain means they will make another move, they don't have the cap space. On deadline day they will send down Robertson and afterthey will waive Jones and call Robertson back up. The only way they can make more space before the deadline while leaving enough space for Jarnkrok to come back is to waive/trade any of Gregor/Reaves/Giordano/Lagesson/Timmins before the deadline. It looks like they want to keep Reaves as he has been contributing more lately, then Lagesson and Timmins are too valuable as injury depth. That leaves Giordano, who could pull a Spezza and threaten to retire if claimed, and Gregor. It doesn't seem like they want to put Giordano through waivers even though he would clear, and I guess they want to keep Grogor around in case of injuries... so that's it, this is the roster. I personally would have gotten rid of Gregor so that you have more space for a better players than Lyubushkin but they didn't want to do that. Part of me thinks with Giordano going down tonight, and McCabe playing while banged up, they wanted to complete this trade before they announced any injuries and teams drove up the prices knowing they were in a bind... <img class="for_img" src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GHk-FvUW8AARlmZ?format=png&name=large" alt="GHk-FvUW8AARlmZ?format=png&name=large"></div></div>
That's a 25 man roster...
And the other move part comes with the Leafs still being able to fit Libby under the cap without double retention

Sell at the deadline. This team has no realistic Cup aspirations. Recoup some assets for guys like Bertuzzi, Domi, and Brodie, revamp in the summer, and hopefully put yourself in a better position to buy next year with more trade chips to spend

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Messier99</b></div><div>Watching baseball and having teams 1.5 games behind the lead - I wonder if NHL is ready for half points.
Win = 2 pts.
OTW = 1.5 pts.

SOL = 0.75 pts.
OTL = 0.5 pts.
L = 0 pts.
All games = 2 points - same as historic.
W = 2 pts. more that loser, OTW = 1 pt. more than loser, SOW = 0.5 pt. more than loser.
Would be worse for Leafs based on this game, but in the long run I expect Leafs to be below average in games that go to OT.</div></div>
Like the thought, but I would like something more in line with a team getting more points with a regulation win....something that European Football did.
Three points for a regulation win. Two points for a overtime win, one point for an overtime loss.

Toronto Maple Leafs 2023 2024 Offseason Discussion - Draft Day And Free Agency
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>https://theathletic.com/4736260/2023/08/01/maple-leafs-samsonov-murray-salary-cap/
Great article by Mirtle here on the Murray situation. Biggest take away for me that I didn't realize:
<em>"Murray stood to lose $2.67 million of the $8 million remaining in salary if he was bought out. It’s highly unlikely he would be able to recoup that as a free agent, not with every team relatively settled in goal and tight against the cap. At best, because of his health, he was likely looking at a near-league minimum contract and a move to a situation where he would potentially be battling for a job in the NHL"</em>
Because his original contract was heavily backloaded (32 percent of the salary in the final year of the deal), the amount he would get from a buy-out vs agreeing to be injured and sitting on LTIR and collecting his full paycheck is $2.67m. That's a pretty big incentive to fake hurt all year</div></div>
My biggest takeaway from that article:
“The Leafs didn’t need to go through a full arbitration hearing in order to activate the second buyout window, so we can throw that out as a theory for why they went through with it.”
If you were not going to or able to buyout Murray, why even go to arbitration with Samsonov. I’m sure they were hoping to get that number less than 3.55 but know you just walk him right to FA where if he proves himself again you are looking at a number in the high 5’s on a 4-5 year deal.
So instead of getting him on a 2-3 year deal (a 2 year deal would have been perfect so it expires when Woll’s does) at a 4.25-4.5 deal we could very well be looking for a new #1 goalie again unless Woll takes the next steps.
Pretty short sided IMO on Treliving. And I realize the argument from some fans is “oh we didn’t have the cap to do it” well it’s going to be really awko-taco IF Holmberg and Timmins are out playing Kampf and Klingberg next year. Cause that could be 6.55 mil that could have been spent better.

Toronto Maple Leafs 2023 2024 Offseason Discussion - Draft Day And Free Agency
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Messier99</b></div><div>A hypothetical question.
Last week, could the Leafs make a trade with NJD.
Marner with 50% retained for Future considerations. At end of this season, Leafs decide if Futures should be Jack Hughes or Curtis Lazar.
Essentially, Leafs are helping NJ with a shot to win Cup this year. But it helps Leafs in long run.
Or can NHL step in and say it's a non-sensical trade.</div></div>
Let's simplify this a bit.
Basically you're asking if you could delay the return on trade, yes?
i.e *ignoring all other factors - just putting the names in* Leafs trade Marner to NJD this year for no return, and NJD then transfers Hughes to the Leafs after the upcoming season?
So it's Marner <em>now</em> for Hughes a year from now?

Lmao there's that optimism. He signed a one year deal as a UFA and wanted to be on a contender. OF COURSE there's an NMC, there would've been one anywhere that he signed a one year deal. Just protecting himself from ending somewhere he wouldn't have considered signing with.

Nylander u can but u need to be careful and ensure u can at least break even
Marner u are never winning that trade</div></div>
but the reason I'd trade Matthews/Nylander isn't performance based unlike Kadri with his disciplinary actions. Its a completely different though train. Its because, if they don't commit this summer, they are likely to leave. So you'd need to make sure you don't get left empty handed.

so do you not think we go even further into rebuild territory if we keep them a year, don't win, and then Matthews and Nylander just decide to walk and we get absolutely nothing?

That sounds like good logic for a team that’s supposed to be in win-now mode. So why didn’t they apply the same logic to their goaltending? They didn’t want to commit to a goalie for more than two years, and as a result they wound up spending almost as much AAV on a guy with a lot more uncertainty (assuming Campbell would have signed the same contract in Toronto that he signed in Edmonton).
