I’m not comfortable predicting as little salary for Chytil and Miller as I did here. As much as I am pulling for it to not happen, don’t be shocked if Filda is a cap casualty.

I like it. If the cap is an issue the only thing that should be done is buyout Goodrow. Then once next year hits say goodbye to Trouba and Kreider imo. Need to open up more cap flexibility.

Although the threat of an offer sheet is low, the potential to nab either Lafreniere or Miller for pennies on the dollar might change teams’ minds. One way or another, the Rags should have some concerns.

I just really hope the Rangers don't have to resort to something as impactive as an eight year buyout because, sheesh lol. I'd say Goodrow is overpaid by about $1M, whereas the buyout would literally be an overpay by whatever the penalty is. In six of the eight years, the penalty is greater than $1M, so I'd rather stick with Goodrow on the team.

I heard this same argument last offseason with Kakko. In addition, I'd accept a 1st and a 3rd in exchange for Lafreniere at $6M. Miller is going to be the priority extension, and I have no worries that it won't be completed before the offer sheet window opens.

I don’t know how Miller should be prioritized over Chytil….but that’s not even a discussion worth having because by hook or crook, NYR need to do whatever it takes to get Miller, LaF, and Chytil extended. That said- potential returns on all 3 have to be listened to….and in the case of a 6M OS to LaF, the return 1st and 3rd might just be the best move. But I just don’t see that as realistic, as he is playing to a bridge deal rather than a massive overpay.

The Cap situation as it stands is razor thin (but not impossible) for next year. It really is in Drury’s best interest to get these guys locked ASAP. Should Miller and Chytil continue on this year’s trajectory, they will only get more expensive. If that happens then NYR should have a pecking order of who gets dealt…all on contracts other than minimum or ELC would be on this list. My guess is guys at the top of this list would be Goodrow, Trouba, and Lindgren. Other than Goodrow, any other move is probably going to be real unpopular (Lindgren) or real uncomfortable (Trouba- due to probably salary retention required).

I don't mean that as in it's absolutely PARAMOUNT to prioritize Miller over Chytil per se, but just from comparing the depth behind both players it's a rather massive drop to put a guy like Ben Harpur on the second pairing lol. It's also why I'd sadly believe Filip Chytil would actually be at the top of that list you created, much like Pavel Buchnevich was in 2021. I also don't expect the likes of Goodrow or Trouba to be moved with how immovable their contracts are this year.. and as I previously referenced a buyout doesn't solve anything.

If Chytil is the player sacrificed, then -unlike Buch- the return better be in line for what he shows he is becoming: a top 6 C. Anything short of a 1st round pick, a good prospect and then some would be as disappointing as the Buch return. That all said- I think there will be moves available. I’m guessing that most won’t like the options available…but short of losing Shest or Fox (of course I don’t even remotely see happening), any player on the roster can be had in the right deal.

NYR won't have the leverage to return his true trade value since Chytil would be a cap dump in this hypothetical scenario. It'd be very similar to the return Buch got.

Then scuttle someone else…any GM who takes Pennies on the dollar for a nicely developing top 6 center…will be looking for a job in a different business.
