There is absolutely no proof to suggest that at all...
Vrana's situation was one of lazy on-ice play and clashing with Laviolette's system, not due to anything related to Kuzy or off-ice actions. Kuzy's play has rubbed management the wrong way at times but that varies by team and by system, and Kuznetsov is a well liked player among players and coaches even with his struggles this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>You’re literally the one making the ACGM. The Canucks aren’t shopping Miller to the Caps. The Canucks have 0 interest in a 30 year old center already declining rapidly. At least Miller is still productive. As for his points exclusively on the PP, that’s wrong. He puts up a lot of points on the powerplay because he puts up a lot of points in general</div></div>
it was to make a point that when you are trading anyone in the NHL you are never going to get back exactly what you want, especially when what you want is an effective, young, cost-controlled, NHL proven center -- literally the most valuable asset in the league. Miller has 37 ES points this year, Kuznetsov has 35. It's not bad but puts them at tied for 93rd and 113th in the league respectively -- still top line rates -- but being outperformed by guys like Tomas Tatar and Yanni Gourde. It's not bad to score on the powerplay, but it is generally a less valuable skill and less important in driving team wins, especially in the postseason where variance in powerplay production over short series can be huge.
Of course, we have more sophisticated ways of evaluating players now beyond points and it is no secret that Kuzy has been absolutely horrendous driving play this year, mostly because of his atrocious defensive impacts. I would like to point out however that Miller is not a positive play driver either and has not had positive defensive impacts in any of the last 4 seasons, whereas the last 2 years before this Kuzy actually had positive offensive and defensive impacts. This is on top of the fact that despite wanting to play there and often times being forced too out of necessity in Vancouver, Miller is not a natural center (https://theathletic.com/4000244/2022/12/14/canucks-jt-miller-winger-centre/) while Kuznetsov is.
Finally, there is the massive issue of their contracts. I will be kind and allow that 8m for Miller next year is fair if not a little under market value, and 7.8m for Kuzy is a slight overpayment. That 7.8 is only a slight overpayment for the next 2 years, until which Kuzy will be 32, about to decline precipitously and off the books. Miller is signed at 8m for the next 7 years and ends when he is 37. In addition to being a whole lot more actual dollars, there is a very strong likelihood that the final 3-5 years of that contract will age horribly. Having that flexibility in 24-25 when Kuzmenko and Boeser are UFAs (as well as guys like Marner, Draisaitl, Ekblad, Ehlers) is incredibly valuable.
The Caps have solid center depth with Strome, Backstrom, and Dowd plus McMichael and Lapierre waiting to get their shot, and an extremely clear window of the next 3 years of Ovi being around beyond which nothing really matters. It makes a ton of sense for them to take a chance on a guy who is best at wing and who's contract will age horribly most likely right when that window is slammed shut anyways. Vancouver is a team with a ton of medium to long-term bad money on the books in need of a natural 2c and in desperate need of cap flexibility and some sort of shakeup because what exists now clearly isn't working. It makes a ton of sense for them to take a chance on someone who has proven at his peak he can be a legit superstar -- yes, his 2018 season and playoffs especially where he probably should've won the Conn Smythe were better than Miller's season last year -- but by recent reporting has grown disgruntled and wants out. I'm not at all saying this is a slam dunk yes from Vancouver, or for Washington, but there would be a ton of reasons why both teams would do it.

"huh yeah i guess they are doing better with the new team" YEAH NO SHAT!!! THEY WERE GOOD PLAYERS lol. EVEN Schmidt got benched for MIKE WEBER !!! remember that? look at the talent we let go</div></div>
who we let go
Vrana -- 3 goals and 8 points in 35 playoff games, I am glad that he has gotten treatment but has also played 40 games since the trade
Stephenson -- find ONE take from when he was traded of anyone who thought he could be more than a pretty good 4th liner
Bura -- 25 points in 75 games his last year in WSH, stuck behind Ovi, Wilson, Oshie, Vrana, Connolly on the depth chart, requested a trade
Samsonov -- repeatedly proved he wasn't mature/consistent enough to be the starter, glad he has found his game in TOR (which by all advanced metrics is a very similar defensive environment to WSH)
Vanecek -- see above, has been completely average in NJ this year
Copley -- despite winning a bunch of games this year has been quite bad in the NHL, an AHL starter at best
Seigenthaler -- big mistake, shouldn't have brought in Chara, everyone at the time knew it was a mistake
Sprong -- even to good play-driving 4th liner who creates a lot of offense but also giving a ton of it up, incredibly streaky scorer from year to year who had one good season in DC then one bad one
who we brought in
Sheary -- great value
Mantha -- has been bad
Panik -- was ok for a year then bad, gave too much money
Raffl -- meh, only gave up a 5th and played 4 playoff games
Hathaway -- one of the bet 4th liners in the league
Hags -- extension was a bit much but an incredible defensive player and pker, unlucky with injuries
Larsson -- great defensive 4th liner, only gave up a 3rd
Dillon -- was very good as a JC partner while here then flipped for more than we paid SJS for him
Kovi -- meh, once again only gave up a 3rd
DK -- super solid and most importantly consistent
Chuck -- did great while DK was out, has slowed down a bit recently, much better than Fucale who has a .889s% on a top 5 AHL team
Would also like to add:
Gus -- incredible 2/3rds of the season, got a great return
MoJo -- see above
Strome -- perfect running mate for Ovi, very fair contract
Milano -- great middle 6 winger on a below market value contract
Dowd -- legitimately the best 4th liner in the league
for every shouldve kept!!11!1!1!1!!! guy BMac has been able to find at least one other replacement that was also underutilized by their previous teams! There have obviously been individual mistakes, Chara over Seigenthaler and Weber over Schmidt chief among them, but to act like this is some big systemic failure rather than the natural quirks of development is disingenuous

DRAFT HONZEK ANDERSON TO WSH 64M DEAL FOR CAUFIELD NEDELJKOVIC ON A 1YR PROVE IT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>They wouldn't!
Despite the ridiculous Anderson hate here. His value is far beyond Mantha and his issues. They'd just keep Anderson, whos actually effective. The whole point of trading Anderson is getting a young asset in their window not a reclamation projection at the same age.
Already saw this draft pick trade before. Just more galaxy brain trading for trading without even knowing the draft positioning.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nilees24</b></div><div>Well to be fair I value the cap space more than both players. Anderson's contract would disappear and Mantha has one year remaining and you'd trade him for whatever at the 2023 TDL. I don't care about both players. Plus Mantha is from MTL and on the final year of his deal, meaning he will play his best hockey on the final year of his deal and would want to get paid on his next contract after this upcoming season.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>30 yo Josh anderson at 5.5 million isn't gonna help anyone compete. too expensive to be a bottom 6 player on a contender and not good enough to be a top 6 player on a contender</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoVaSpartan</b></div><div>Awful deal for Washington, Mantha being moved would be to clear cap and not for a worse contract that goes for longer. Anderson is a worse asset than Mantha, and the Capitals didn't give Conor Sheary a raise from his 1.5 mil salary, so they sure as hell don't want a worse winger defensively who's putting up the same amount of points this year as Sheary.</div></div>
Awful deal for Wsh. Right now, teams (especially WSH who is still trying to contend right now) would value cap space over either player. Mantha has been beyond unpredictable and Anderson is not worth 3 more years of $5.5mil (he is a bottom 6 player straight up no other way around it - sorry for being direct). Why would the Caps trade a struggling player on an expiring contract for another inconsistent bottom 6 forward with basically the same contract but 3 more years...
Sorry you are stuck with Anderson's contract though

I realize your speaking from the Caps perspective but your deflecting from the argument that Anderson is bad money. That is the point.. he isn’t bad money, so I don’t know why you are laughing as no one else is laughing with you :grimace</div></div>
5.5 for any player who is, at best, a 0.5 ppg player is bad money, no matter how you slice it. Many Caps fans want to get rid of TJ Oshie for the same reason, and Oshie was scoring at a better pace than Anderson this year with (mostly) 3rd line play. No team would likely consider paying a 3rd liner 5.7 for 2 years, Josh Anderson at 5.5x4 certainly isn’t turning any heads.

Plus is contract isnt too long and wont hinder us when its time to resign ehlers or connor's new contract.
On the washington trade. Pionk just isnt working. Washington is in a retool and carlson's health could be questionable. They probably dont want to sign anymore near 30 players to long term deals. Pionk is younger and on a shorter contract with upside. He just doesnt really work with winnipeg's blueline. Winnipeg can take the risk with wilson</div></div>

So you're telling me you won't pay a 1st for a top 4 defenseman with great advanced stats, having one of his best offensive seasons, and on an uber cheap contract, but when the price becomes a 3rd it's suddenly a target for Detroit? Seems like being cheap to me... A Penguins defenseman could be in this same situation and I would defend Hextall asking for a 1st.
Fact is, Washington paid a 2nd plus Bowey for Jensen and Jensen's a far better defenseman now than when he was in Detroit. He is absolutely worth a 1st now.

BMAC has been a top 5 GM in the league since he was hired lol, and this deal was yet another good one for him. He has had only two real misses his entire time -- signing Panik and the Mantha trade -- although that one doesn't even look to bad anymore. This team (with Orlov and Hathaway) have lost 5 in a row and aren't making the playoffs, get some assets and cap space for next year and try again.
