Call It a Hunch
This one is pretty good except for the last 4 picks of the 2nd round - missing Joni Jurmo , Justin Barron, Roby Jarventie, Vasily Ponymaryov who would likely be in the 2nd round mix - probably got tired lol

Trading up
Drafts still have degrees of risk - number 1 picks don’t always make it even at 23rd overall of Philly. Even higher risks of 2nd rounders and 3rd round picks make it. I’m not aware of too many draft pick swaps where 3 picks are swapped for a number 1 - I don’t this cuts it or is even a remote possibility- Habs would be better off to toss in a player like Charles Hudon or Victor Mete plus 2 picks to make this work

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>danielcoe</b></div><div>maybe they shouldn't but with Price and Weber age's and how they performed this year playoffs.. montreal has to go for it while these guys can still perform... all we need now is a goal scorer and some experience for romanov to develop.... the core will get somewhat broken up next year so if they could get a 35 plus goal scorer I would go for it....</div></div>
Agree window closing on Weber and Price but I think they have 2-3 solid seasons in them. Totally agree we need someone that can put the biscuit in the net so I desperately want some goal scorers in this draft to compliment the future Caufield and that’s why I wanted another top draft choice - hoping we could acquire or trade up to get another one in the first round.

Puljujarvi is still quite the unknown - maybe Domi for him and Broberg would work if it’s Edmonton unwilling to part with their first round pick (which they have historically f’d up and had enough of). On Winnipeg I’d trade domi plus some pieces but not Caufield or a first or 2nd. Maybe Domi, Mete, Chiarot or Kulak and Poehling as 4 pieces.

Maybe add AA? Edmonton is shopping him so it makes sense</div></div>

Thanks for both notes - I’m not convinced Montreal should be “going for it” yet because there’s too many question marks on their young core of Suzuki, KK, Romanov, and a possible rebound year of Drouin that no matter what Grade A players we get in a trade or even a free agent like Hall, that none of those will push us into a top 4 contender. Perhaps I’m too anxious for another top draft choice in this deep draft

Broken record again - I cannot see habs picking Amirov at 16 - Bergevin had massive pain pulling Romanov away from the clutches of the khl and mother Russia, so I don’t think he wants to repeat that. We don’t put our eggs in the basket with Lapierre either despite almost every 3rd draft suggesting we pick Hendrix

Good comments - I believe Perreault will fall into picks 25-31 due to his skating and would love Bergevin to package something and move up after picking someone else at 16. I would add Alex Cotton and Pavel Gogolev to your list as late bloomers. Aliso like Daniel Torgesson and William Dufour

First round with explanations
Habs don’t pick Lapierre- they only pick French coaches. Lapierre is not a scorer he’s much more a playmaker, and regardless of BAP which he’s not with the risk/reward factor Cdns should take Mercer Holloway or Gunler. Given what Bergevin went thru to extract Romanov from The KHL mother Russia clutches, I doubt he picks Amirov
A team with only 1 first rounder is unlikely to put all their risk in Hendrix - he’s more likely to be picked by a team with 2 first round picks

I actually didn’t look in detail at his contract so thx for that - I was just looking at his cap hit as Backes is useless on the Ducks who could use the cap room to improve With a better free agent and Kesler is unlikely to come back so they have that cap room. Only one other hockey player came back after hip resurfacing which was Ed jovanoski and he only lasted a year - did not realize part of the buyout impacts the Bruins

I am anti-Amirov despite his talent for the reasons expressed in several other drafts. For those risk factors, I would take Holloway before Amirov unless Bergevin has superb contacts to minimize those risks unless there is buddy synergy with LHD Romanov (Winger Amirov did not play on the Russian junior team)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMs</b></div><div>Nothing against it, Mercer would need to work on is skating but I wouldn’t mind if we draft him over Amirov</div></div>
If your draft goes as is, I would rather have Mercer at 16 over Amirov due to “the pain in the azz Mother Russia factor” that Bergevin experienced with extracting Romanov from the KHL. I would rather have the club monitor and consult on a domestic playing in the Q, Laval AHL or NCAA vs lower control in the KHL. The KHL also pays higher short term money vs NHL entry contracts which can entice the Russians to stay longer / let their draft Period expire and as experienced with Romanov, his ice time in the KHL was considerably reduced once they knew he was going to the NHL - hurting some development

The team in the development of a prospect usually likes to have some degree of input on the coaching, things to work on etc. it’s much easier to have a consult in Laval or the ohl, NCAA or the euro leagues. Russia is a crap shoot. Look how little ice time Romanov got because hus khl team knew he was going to go to the nhl.
Amirov is not eons ahead of Holloway, Mercer, Jarvis or Gunler imo to justify that risk

I can’t see Habs picking Amirov after the pain Bergevin went thru to extract Romanov from the clutches of the khl - khl pays more short term money vs nhl entry level contracts so it’s an attraction for the homies to stay in Mother Russia
I’m not knocking Amirovs skill - I just think politics and contract negotiations delay arrivals and development control. Holloway Jarvis Mercer and Gunler are way better fits

Based on the pain of what Bergevin went thru to extract Romanov from the khl where the Russian players can make more short term money vs an nhl 3 yr entry level contract, I doubt he pulls the trigger on Amirov

The pro Leagues in Europe are much better than the OHL. All the KHL, SHL, Liiga, NLA, DEL and Allsvenskan are better than the OHL</div></div>
I agree with your statement on the pro leagues but with some reservations on risk 1) the khl pays more $ than the nhl entry level contracts - some of those Russian youth players get a taste of that and they can be hard to extract to the nhl. Short term money vs long term money in the nhl - case in point Romanov with the habs 2) most of these young players have had only very short stints in the pro leagues and they did not get much ice time at all so it is a hard comparison however if they held their own and played over 30 games it’s valid but bear in mind that perhaps this year a lot of scouts may not have seen as many euro games vs tape as they have seen of Rossi so Rossi could go high

For Schneider I wouldn't be surprised.</div></div>
I am not convinced that Harry Potter Dubas takes the BAP at number 15 - leafs prospect pool is very thin on D especially RHD and it wouldn’t be a grave mistake to take Schneider here in this deep draft. Unlikely that at pick 44 leafs get as quality a D like Helge Grans Villaneuve Poirier etc Leafs are set at forwards for years to come.

Who MTL will pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DomCholette</b></div><div>Yep I do see Schneider for MTL... but if Gunler is available... you have to take him... he is a shooter!</div></div>
NHL Central Scouting ranks them as Schneider, Mercer, Jarvis, Holloway - not to say they are right. I just prefer another goal scorer - Jarvis at RW - he has demonstrated goal scoring 42 goals in 58 games in the WHL and showed good progression over the prior year . Holloway lit up his slightly inferior junior league in AB prior to becoming one of the youngest players in the NCAA just missing last year's draft - he would convert to a LW. Dawson Mercer did not impress at Team Canada juniors but then again neither did Byfield, but he can put the biscuit in the twine too.
I just think we can pick up some D at pick 47 or pick 48 without that much fall off from Schneider in potential.
After the pain Bergevin went to extract Romanov from Mother Russia, I hope we avoid Amirov who can make more short term money in the KHL. Gunler played against men in Sweden at a young age but he is ranked 9th by NHL central scouting and is below top 16 in most mock drafts.
