IMO we will never get elite type centres if we draft in the 15 spot or lower. Habs have a lot of expendable players Lehtonen, Mete, 2nd and 3rd round picks and some other prospects not named Norlinder, Harris, Struble, Guhle, Caufield, Tuch - that could be packaged as trade up additions.

Tankathon Simulation part 20
If Raty falls into the Habs area, their need for additional centres may trump the marginal calls over BAP. Habs prospects are thin behind Jesperi and Nick Suzuki. They have emerging supplementary scoring on the right side re Gallagher, Anderson, thru Caufield and Ylonen. Their Left side with Drouin and Toffoli (off wing) is adequate. I don't see Habs drafting any D from need with LHD prospects deep (Norlinder, Harris, Struble, Guhle LH & RH), and Josh Brook, Cale Fleury on the RHD side to support #2 Petry and #4 Romanov as Weber fades and ages.

My Mid-March 2021 Top 100 Draft Rankings
Montreal seems pretty loaded up on the left side of their defense prospects( (Norlinder, Harris, Struble, Guhle - LH, RH) , and also right wing prospects of Caufield and Ylonen supporting their core RW (Anderson, Gallagher, Toffoli plays both sides). I know about BAP theory but in this short body of work year, I can't help but think need takes over for marginal calls. I suspect Centres will be repeatedly targeted by their draft team

They are on record of trying to trade Hudon to keep a spot in the nhl for him - If not, Hudon is unlikely to resign or accept and will play in Europe so that’s one more.
I also would not be surprised to see Mete traded.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rhea</b></div><div>Not a chance that Wash does that</div></div>
Very unlikely Habs do that. Drafts are gambles on prospects as is and they reduce as you get into deeper rounds. Especially the odds I’d say of 5-7th rounders maturing and making it. Very rarely do you see 3 draft picks traded for 1 draft pick. If Washington was to give up their first pick, they’d want a roster player or prospect that could help plus a 2nd rounder. I could see the capitals giving up their first pick though - their future is now with ovechkin clock running out.

I would love Buffalo to take Sanderson- IMO he’s so overrated vs the quality of competition he’s faced. I’ll. Wait to be proved wrong.

Excellent job
At pick 48 habs don’t really need another LHD in their prospect pool - you may feel he is BAP but there’s not much difference between that and their need for RHD so I think they pick Villaneuve. At pick 57 it’s a real toss up between Cuylle and Neighbours

And why would he go there and take a substantial 1/2 million pay cut from his annual salary - that’s a pretty big hometown or home province discount - there’s many other teams likely on his list of approved teams where he would make close to the same money - unless you think he can make that difference up by off ice advertising/ promotion

Killorn yo the Habs
1) Why would Killorn waive his no trade clause to take about a 14 per cent pay cut to go closer to his hometown - that’s like over a half million $ a year 2) Habs don’t want aging forwards on the downside of their career 3) killorns stats are barely better than kasperi kapanen who the leafs got a first for - you’ve really over valued him at a first and a second

2020 Mock 20 picks
So with the pain that Bergevin went thru to extract Romanov from the clutches of the KHL and mother Russia, where they pay more short term money than nhl entry level contracts, that he wants to repeat those negotiations with Amirov? Amirov is not worth that effort for the difference between the player level of a Holloway or Mercer both of which their scouts have heavily seen. I don’t even mind them picking Perreault, Jarvis or Gunler. My hope is that Bergevin can get another top 40 pick in this deep draft

Deep NHL Draft that I will try to correctly predict two rounds
You have a very solid top 62- Arizona for 61. I would be inclined to put Joni Jurmo, and Roby Jarventie in there and drop Pytlik and Savoie (inferior league). Daemon Hunt is a good sleeper pick due to injuries on his last season. Tyler Kleven imo is overrated at 40 - closer to 55+ for me.
Good job!

Unrealistic to believe that Holtz or Quinn will fall to 16. Gunler and Amirov have good shots too in that range As do Holloway and Mercer and even Jarvis.
Alex Cotton should be picked at 98 or 102
I like Emil Heineman at pick 47 ahead of Weisblatt

Makes no sense - trade a proven scorer who likes Montreal for a prima Dona with attitude who hasn’t proven that he can even play in the NHL. Not a cap room dump either as habs have plenty of cap room. Throw in Evan Bouchard and even then it is iffy

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JmoneyTalk</b></div><div>Holland wants a first and a prospect for him. I don't think he gets moved as a throw in for clearing cap.</div></div>
Then I want something of what Holland is smoking- Puljujarvi has not even proven he can play in the NHL let alone be even worthy of being a first round pick yet Holland wants a 2 for 1 exchange - another replacement first rounder for a do over mulligan and an up an comer - that’s a ridiculous ask
Oilers have $11m of cap and have to sign a backup Goalie $1m, Ethan Bear and Matt Jones which will be $1.5m-$2m each for those two and Athanasiou likely $2m which leaves $4-5m. They’re not getting any marquee free agent with that money. Their best bet IMO is to trade Jesse plus their first rounder for a top flight scorer/playmaker to balance their 2nd line or to upgrade their defense by packaging Jesse with Larson for a top pairing dman if they don’t think Bouchard is ready to step up.

In my opinion, Puljujarvi gets packaged as a throw in with other players that the oilers want to move for cap room or change. I don’t see Jesse being moved for draft picks only as there’s no pressure to move him.

Jacob has a pretty good role model and mentor in his dad former player Yanic. He knows all the angles and hard work required And the respect for coaching. I’m not so sure he has a low floor and bust risk. Defense can be taught - remember Guy Carbonneau was one dimensional when he was in junior

However, I do not see why Montreal drafts a first-round Center unless Marco Rossi drops to us because of his size again, based off what we have we have our 2 top centers and Bergevin believes that so I see us going LW more so then RW because we lack Quantity on the right and Quality on the left</div></div>
Correct on the Russian rules but 1) khl pays more short term money than nhl entry level contracts So it can be a deterrent 2) Bergevin had a lot of trouble extracting Romanov from CSKA Moscow - I don’t think he wants to repeat that with Amirov - regardless of strength at RW they should be drafting the best scorer for depth and if necessary patch the LW with trade or free agency. Most centres can move to wing

If Quinn, Holloway, Mercer are picked in the top 15, then I’m in the Jarvis, Perreault, Gunler selection pool and avoid the extraction pain associated with the KHL and Mother Russia for Amirov. If Foerster falls into the pick 35 -40 range Bergevin should be all over that by trading up some picks or spare parts. Mav Bourque is ok but is not in the same goal scorer category of the players I have mentioned and is NOT the BAP

I’d like Grans or Villeneuve to build up our RHD defense too. If not then we should reach for Alex Cotton in the 3rd or 4th round as a certainty
