fixing the sabres
If you're not retaining on Skinner, I don't see why the Kings would retain on PLD.
Besides, I don't think the Kings do it even considering no/matching retention. Don't really need an aging winger whose production is starting to fall off already.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>When did Keller become a 90+ point Selke level forward?</div></div>
Keller averaging very nearly PPG in the past 3 seasons while having absolutely no help in Arizona is pretty damn impressive...
Swap Marner in his place, with the players he's had, and it's probably pretty similar production.

Potential Scenario
Vegas deal is a bit steep but I dont hate it. I'm not sure they'd do it. That's two pretty big pieces they're letting go for someone who might not even really be a contributor to their team. And let's be honest, they're still gonna be in 'win now' mode.
Similar with Buchnevich, I don't think STL do that deal either. Plus, I highly doubt the Blues are among the teams Gavrikov would waive his full NMC for. It's hard to see Gavy waiving it at all.
I dont think we should be adding anything in a Perbix-Spence swap deal. Spence is the better player imo, and leads in most underlying metrics. Obviously Perbix is bigger, but size is not the issue with Spence, he can defend just fine with positioning and hockey IQ.

Not to mention you need to have Marner waive his NMC as well as Doughty.</div></div>
Even assuming Marner comes with an extension, I still wouldnt do it.
Wouldn't leave us with enough money to find a proper top pairing D replacement, and as much as we hype Clarke, hes definitely not ready for that role. And Spence is a fine 2/3 pairing guy.
We'd just be upgrading wings but losing in a more important part of the lineup.

Unless we're just making a 12-man center forward lineup

Caps and Ottawa both say yes (although I'd be happy to keep TVR)
Buffalo might accept, caps would definitely take that imo.
I think Florida declines but I'm really not sure of his value.</div></div>
Hard to say from a Kings perspective. Ideally, we would want to at least re-coup our pick used for Kaliyev (a 2nd). But it's also difficult for us to say he's really performed well enough in his ~200 GP that he's still worth that. And that's purely no fault but our own for not maximizing his skillset.
But I'm hoping there are enough teams that see the upside to what he potentially has to offer (still 22), that someone just throws us a 2nd or similar prospect needing a change of scenery.

Dont think the Kings go for this. As far as PLD goes, im sure the Kings realized this was a very bad year for him but still have some sort of confidence he can return to form, he's hit 60 points in a majority of the seasons he's played. Give him some talented linemates and see what happens.
Jarry is too expensive for what he would bring to the team, and on too long of a contract. Unless the Kings get some elite goaltending (unlikely), they're probably looking at someone who can hold it down for a few seasons and see if Portillo takes over.
Reilly Smith as a 1-year rental at 5M doesn't particularly excite me.

Yeah we just can't afford to let Danault leave. Maybe if PLD actually shows up, or if we move Byfield to center and he thrives there (he's been playing on Kopitar's wing for the past 2 seasons). Then we could consider downgrading our 3C.

I feel like Sens would still accept that in a heartbeat. Korpi had a REALLY bad season. You guys are significantly downgrading goaltenders on similar money, should be asking for a lot more.

One of the more interesting deals involving Danault that I've seen, but the Kings pass.
We're in a cap crunch, can't afford a middle 6 winger (probably 3rd liner on our team) making 4.4M and whatever Lindgren would want on a long-term deal, especially when the two LD ahead of him already make 10M combined.

Pass from the Kings. We are hoping Turcotte has a decent first full NHL season, and Struble doesn't move the needle on the blueline for us. Need a proven 2nd or 3rd pairing LD to play with Clarke who can guide him.

Yeah, and we already have our early-mid 20's goalie prospect that can fill in for a handful of NHL games if required with Portillo who has a higher ceiling anyways.

You can have Grundstrom, but we don't need Nico Daws. Kings already have a good backup, looking for someone with some experience playing 1A/1B who can be better than Talbot. Daws would basically end up playing 2nd fiddle to Rittich, and that's not a tandem Rob Blake is gonna stake his final season as Kings GM on lmao

My take on the Canucks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PaddysPub</b></div><div>It sounds like Cole is going to test b free agency. And the Canucks are looking to bring Lindholm back.</div></div>
Personally think that's a mistake, even with Lindholm having quite a few clutch moments in the playoffs. Petey and Miller are clearly great/elite C's in this league, I think it's best for the Canucks to get natural wingers to support them. If they still aren't convinced about Garland/Hoglander being top 6 wingers, then they'd need at least two good ones to help Pettersson/Miller/Boeser

Blake getting serious
A short-term filler in our middle 6 makes sense, but I'm not sure Toffoli is that guy. Don't see why he'd sign a 1-yr deal at his age and after scoring 30+ in back-to-back seasons. He can easily get that AAV on a medium-term deal. Stolarz numbers look decent but remember he's never actually played a 1A role before. Often times you see these guys who have excelled at ~30 games start struggling when they're suddenly playing closer to 50, while facing the tougher teams too.
I still maintain our left side defense is too weak to contend, something needs to be done. Cannot have Englund play another 82+ games if this team is serious.

Canes 24-25 pt 2
Value-wise, it's a good deal for the Kings. But we are already cap-strapped as is, and this worsens the issue for us cuz we lose a huge piece to our projected blueline making peanuts while adding a 2nd line winger who will likely cost the same amount as Byfield (5-6M on bridge deal, or 8M on long term deal).
Timing just isnt right for us.

Jeannot has had two awful seasons. I still think there is potential for him to bounce back to at least 25-30 points but that's not a trade I'd make from the Kings side.
I can probably trade Grundstrom and Kaliyev's RFA rights straight up and use those returns to get a better player for the 3rd line

Western Flavor
I think you're undervaluing your own guy there, good young RHD are not easy to find. If the Kings weren't already stacked on the right side (Doughty / Spence / Clarke), I would've taken this deal in a heartbeat. But unfortunately he'd be too expensive after signing his next deal, Kings can't afford him.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BUF10</b></div><div>Olofsson and Kaliyev are the same player.</div></div>
I get what you're saying in that their best asset is their shot, but I disagree a little. I think Kaliyev's passing goes under the radar, has some of the highest goals % and expected goals % on a decent team, our coaches just did not know how to get the best out of him.

The Pettersson Package for Marner
Leafs likely say no. They'd be paying more or less (depending on if Necas signs bridge/long-term) the same amount AAV for likely less production.
KK just isnt valuable enough to any team in a bad cap situation to be included.

Kings pass. Rather just re-sign Roy if we're actually looking for RD (which we probably shouldn't be, we have Doughty-Spence-Clarke already).
Too much cap incoming without us offsetting it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Socal_King</b></div><div>Why is everyone wanting to sign older ex-kings back? That idea failed last year with Lewis and it will fail again with these aging guys. They won't bring back any of the 2021-2014 magic that team had. Chychrun is no different than Gavrikov, so why is LA trading anything for him.</div></div>
Replace Pearson with any vet, point is they're gonna add cheap veteran forward depth because as fun as it is dreaming of a 4th line of AHL graduates, it probably isnt happening.
Chychrun and Gavrikov are not remotely the same profile of player, what. Our blueline has been one of the lowest-producing of all playoff teams. Adding in Clarke helps, but I mean he's still going to get minimal icetime. You can sign a cheap shutdown 3LD, and you already have Mikey as another shutdown guy.
Need some playmaking and mobility on the left too.
