Yea canes are on a hot streak and rangers in a slump. That’s how hockey usually works lol. Everyone knew rangers beginning streak was never gonna last</div></div>
Vanecek has been a bottom 3 goalie this year. Siegenthaler and Hamilton are done for the year Hughes Hischier Meier Haula and Palat have all missed atleast a month each McLeod is probably a r*pist. Last game they literally dressed 2 defensemen over the age of 23 no team ever survives this level of bad luck

Hes the one guy who Friedman keeps on mentioning as a likely extension candidate. When his agent went on their podcast, it didn’t sound like there was an issue. Could also be damage control. He said what he said, but when he said it (right after January 1st) is reason it’s worth talking about. Friedman said extension was likely on first day…but that day came and went.
And given the history of how these things rarely work out…despite fanbases believing otherwise…combined with higher likelihood of goalies getting traded in RFA year…it doesn’t look good from outside. But you all would know better than I would how Bs are handling.

And half that reach arbitration hearing are gone within a year, 80% gone within two years.
You are right, its normal.
But its also normal to see that player on another team in year or two.

I'm one of the rare devils fans that thinks we should absolutely move Casey (and probably Lenni) to win a cup before Nico's contract ends.
Obviously that requires the right move (not a rental), but theyre both incredible trade chips and we gotta go for it. This team is ****ing nasty.</div></div>
I’d move Casey for the right piece as well

I know no one wants to be the dummy who paid too much for a goalie but just for a second think about what NJ would look like with this seasons Hellebucyk on it........ :flushed
Yeah its gonna suck in 27-28 but every year till then is gonna be Weeeeeeeeeeeee!
Get a primo goalie NJ, you literally have everything else already. Holtz, Casey, 2025 1st and Vanacek for Saros. Do it, you cowards. :squintytongue

We should trade him for RYAN REAVES! Because his career 0.07 pts/gm in playoffs is proof... size trumps skill!
MARCHESSAULT was awful last year.... Zero fights.
Get IVAN BARBASHEV! He HITS. Boom! His 0.18 ppg in playoffs is plenty.
JAKE GUENTZEL...good thing Pens benched him in their cup runs.
They could have won with a heavy winger like WILLIAM CARRIER! 0.11 ppg in playoffs, who cares? He is 220 lbs of man!
BRAD MARCHAND, take a seat.
If you fall behind, a guy like MATT MARTIN (0.15 ppg) can rip a guys face off. Because when you're down, you don't want goals. You want revenge!
CALE MAKAR is only good for regular season. Give me HAKANPAA!!!
KUCHEROV should be benched in playoffs. His buddy BRAYDEN POINT too. Who cares about their 1.13 and 1.02 ppg...they are lilliputians.
Lightning would have won something if they had MANTHA and LUCIC instead
FIALA, FOX, ZUCCARELLO....pass. PANARIN, no thanks.
KURTIS MACDERMID, PAT MAROON, JOEL ARMIA....start, start, start!
DEBRINCAT, GAUDREAU, MARNER....bench, bench, bench!
JOSH ANDERSON is elite!</div></div>
Tbf Ryan Reaves had a better P/60 at 5v5 than dach and Matt Martin scored the same amount of 5v5 points.

Too small for the playoffs? In last year's playoffs he led the Devils in corsi differential, led their roster regulars in xG differential, and was second on the team in shot differential. (all at 5v5 per NST) He only had a poor +/- because his PDO was .939, and he still managed to be T-5th on the team for points and T-2nd on the team for primary assists, with an IPP of 75%

Bratt was "ineffective" because Igor shesterkin is the best goalie in hockey and both Carolina and NYR are some of the best defensive teams in hockey

Nobody is saying Dach is worth less than Boqvist, just that Dach's scoring leaves something to be desired when compared to Boqvist. The point is just that Bratt is worth way more than Dach and a late 1st.

Pettersson
I would think…if there were ever Pettersson conversations in real life…they would be centered around Mercer as main piece going to Vancouver. (1) he would provide position flexibility for them; (2) Bratt just signed long-term; (3) Mercer is on the verge of first RFA deal (typically the most likely time a young top player moves, if they ever do).
Mercer would be hard to give up…and it’s hard to imagine a combination of players that would suit both sides. Would be in neighborhood of…
Mercer
Holtz
Casey
2024 1st
Conditional 1st/2nd
But center is not a position of need for NJD, nor is scoring going to be much of a problem. A goalie maybe. Or a dman who excels at d-zone exits and starting a transition, maybe. But Pettersson would be excess.
Fun though.

Jack Hughes vs Elias Pettersson a debate
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HeadHighSauce</b></div><div>Yeah I don't agree here. I'm not sure Petey is a perennial 100 point player (there's basically only 3 or 4guys in the league I would put money on scoring 100 points), but I don't think he's mid-80's either. Low 90's.
(though, back of the envelope calculations would set jack's O/U points next year at like 84.5 so do with that what you will)</div></div>
Nobody is guaranteed 100 points except McDavid. Scoring is going up though so it’s very possible they it becomes the new normal

Advanced analytics will only tell so much of the story. Hughes is noticeable on the ice 100% of the time. He'll be a top 5 player in the league in maybe 2 years, if not in this upcoming season.
And I'm a Rangers fan.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HeadHighSauce</b></div><div>> If it's production, does that mean the 4% EV OFF Hughes has on Pettersson is more significant than the 6% EV DEF that Pettersson has on Hughes
It almost certainly is. per EH, the 100th percentile for EVD is 9.1 GAR. For EVO it's 25.6. Offense is much more valuable than defense (which, duh. you can't win if you don't score goals) in these models.
FWIW EH has Hughes at a total 22/23 WAR of 3.6 and Petterson at 4.4 with the biggest difference being defense and penalties. xWAR is 3.7 to 3.7.
different models will value different things differently though.</div></div>
Certainly as far as individuals go, offense is generally speaking than defense, but yeah I was talking more about the models which as you said do reflect that but there is the question of which metrics are being valued more over others in each model (as you mentioned).
The models do have a larger emphasis on 5v5 offense which is a good standard for comparing players, to try and isolate the players from the situational impacts. With these two who had the same overall production essentially, the way I see it (until there's more data to separate them) they essentially got to the same place while excelling at different things.
