Now Toronto Might Really Need A Goalie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>hmmm, what's the difference between a guy who has proven he is a 2nd liner playing on the 3rd line and a guy who has proven he might be a pretty good backup playing in the AHL?
Like, are you serious with that comparison? I mean, if Kapanen had played 50ish games and scored 12 goals on the 2nd line and then been put in the AHL it might work, but it's not remotely similar.
and the Leafs, if their starter is hurt, they shouldnt be putting their eggs all in one basket with a guy who might be nothing more than an average backup. Like, would you be comfortable going into the playoffs with DeSmith if Jary and Murray were hurt? I doubt it.</div></div>
you seem really fired up over this & its pretty comical.
you do realize that your boy Anderson is putting up league average numbers too, right?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Yeah, i mean it's not like he's the Pens third string goalie who is currently playing in the AHL, exactly like I said, and would more likely than not be a poor substitute for an actual NHL starter!
Wow, so complicated!</div></div>
oh buddy...you really are showing you don't know anything about DeSmith and the Pens goalie situation.
See Toronto's goalie situation is easy to understand. They have one good goalie and now he is hurt.
The Pens have 3 good goalies. But normally it is not wise to roster 3 goalies. add in cap complications from the start of the year and yes, that is why he is in the AHL.

He probably doesn't know that DeSmith would provide them very affordable, league average goaltending, that could get them by until Anderson is healthy.

Your right, its a small sample size for him playing in pittsburgh. not as relevant

One of the best skaters in the league with the ability to handle the puck at high speeds and finish. There is not a single player in the NHL that could produce playing with the bottom 6 that DET has to offer (maybe Crosby/McDavid/MacKinnon).
Keep in mind he's also an RFA and Gal is a UFA - way different.</div></div>
I do agree that the RFA and UFA does alter value there.

I will say one thing about him. I have never really seen him do stupid things that hurt the team.</div></div>
I think he's a phenomenal playmaker who needs to find his hands again. Added bonus, his shot is wicked.
But the Pens don't use him right and are clearly unhappy with him.

As for the Kap trade, prior to the injury yes. But if he's out for the year on that, I don't know the penguins do that. It's the right move long term. But if he's not helping this year, they probably won't be looking at it.</div></div>

I have to be honest though. AA doesn't have much in terms of help.
But I don't think AA has the kind of value a lot of people want to put on him. I think because he's not as far removed from that 30 goal season as it was last year, people have assumed he had grown as a player and made the next step. The thing about hockey and young players though is consistency. Maybe in a different system with different team mates he looks better.
Either way, I don't see the penguins trading for him, and Detroit probably asks for more.</div></div>
Lets be clear, i'm not offering this trade lol. i dont want AA as a penguin.
Just doing a comparison bit here

AA is playing on the worst team in the NHL by a country mile
Chucky's playing on a team with 2 Generational stars and nothing?
AA is having an off year
Chucky hasnt hit 20 goals let alone 30 since he marked his Career high i believe 4-5 years ago now.
I watched Galchenyuk Self destruct and all i kept thinking was f&&&ing Rebiro all over again thinking he'd go elsewhere and score 70-80 points finding inconsistent success.
Sadly Chucky's to drunk to even do that</div></div>
Okay, but Chucky put up over 40 points on an average Coyote team last season and AA put up over 50 points on virtually the same team. sooo, its an off year for one but not the other? That doesn't make sense. Galchenyuk clearly is in the dog house on the pens. he gets like 10 minutes a game.
I haven't read anything about galchenyuk having a drinking/drug problem.

Serious question here...why is AA so much more valued than Galchenyuk?? What am i missing?
AA: 284 games played in the NHL, 78 goals 71 apples -65 (pretty bad), 25 years old
Currently has 5 goals and 14 assists and -35
1 30 goal season
0 20 goal seasons prior
PPG- .524
Galcheynuk: 531 games played in the NHL, 132 goals 180 apples -58 (not great, but more games), 25 years old
Currently has 5 goals and 11 assists and -5
1 30 goal season
1 20 goal season
PPG - .587
They both have mediocre possession metrics
I personally don't want AA on the Pens roster, but everyone ridicules Galchenyuk and not this guy? I Do Not Get It

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yojimbo</b></div><div>Poulin, 2nd for Athanasiou. Poulin alone is an overpay for Athanasiou. Heck, Athanasiou is a non-physical, not defensive, 10g 40pt guy, even though he gets 2nd line time... the 2nd alone might even be overpay. He is not a difference maker. He bumps nobody from the Pens top 2 lines. He is barely out-producing Galchenyuk, while managing to have the worse +/- in the league.
Counter with a 3rd for Athanasiou. Basically the same as you did for Galchenyuk since they are on par.</div></div>
This is a great point...makes me wonder why everyone trashes Galchenyuk's value, but not Athanasiou? Same age, similar PPG. Galchenyuk actually has a ton more NHL experience and goals...Both struggling this year.
Now I don't even want Athanasiou...he's gonna be the same player as Galchenyuk and wind up being in Sullivan's doghouse and stuck to the 4th line.

I'm not opposed to keeping them together, I just don't really trust Blug in the dot especially come playoff time.. if anything make a Coleman-Glendening-Horny line.
(wanted Tanev-Coleman-Horny cause that line would be MAYHEM and difficult to play against)
NJ wont trade Bahl just more of a want for me I love his game especially if you could pair him and Addison together for the future
I love Andersons game and he plays the style PIT is playing, he could have a big bounce back on Sids wing and he's still young we could lock him up for the foreseeable future</div></div>

The ZAR, Blueger, Tanev line has been really good. Why break them up to gain a few % points in the faceoff dots?
Why take Rust away from Malkin? They've been killing it...
Why would NJ trade a top defensive prospect that they just acquired?
Why overpay for Josh Anderson? Who has 4 points on the season & then put him in the top 6...and to lose a trade like that to a division rival :(
