Let's compare three supposed on-the-block players:
Kreider - 28 years old, .596 career PPG, $4.625mil/year, 1 yr remaining
Tatar - 29 years old, .591 career PPG, $4.8 mil/year, 2 yrs remaining
Zucker - 28 years old, .559 career PPG, $5.5 mil/year, 4 years remaining
Lets also look at comparable players just given new contracts:
Anders Lee - 29 years old, .605 career PPG, new contract: $7mil/year over 7 years
W. Karlsson - 27 years old, .551 career PPG, new contract: $5.9mil/year over 5 years
Silfverberg - 29 years old, .523 career PPG, new contract: $5.25mil/year over 5 years
All three are making below the most recent market value based on their career production, but the key is to look at age and years of control left at what price, as well as what your team can work within the cap for this year and moving forward, if that's something that is part of the plan. Only opinion I'll offer here is I think Lee was overpaid and Karlsson underpaid..
