Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flames1217</b></div><div>I see the appeal for Anderson from the Sabres perspective but I don't see the need for Kuzmenko.
I<strong> also don't see how the Sabres keep all three of centres going-forward as one of the three will want more ice somewhere else and the Sabres will need to plug their holes</strong>.
If the Flames end up trading everyone than I can see a deal to he had for Ras, if they want a quick retool I can't see him getting dealt. He is too important to the team.</div></div>
I don’t really see this being an issue. Cozens(5), Mitts(2), and Thompson(3) are all each in the top 5 of the Sabres forwards in ice time per game, and each have played at least some wing in the NHL. Mitts in particular can play anywhere in the top 6, so when the Sabres are fully healthy, he can stay at wing or be a 3C with great matchups and still get PP time. If the Sabres sign Mitts for ~7.1 mil a year, they still will have 19 million to resign/replace Krebs, Joki, Girgs, Okposo, UPL, and Erik Johnson. (Some of which might be replaced by prospects).

If the Flames are willing to retain on both Lindholm and Markstrom, I can see the Canes being in on both.

Take out Willander and the Canucks accept. Also if Kuzmenko held that much value the Canucks would just trade him themselves for a similar package.

Idk. McLeod is so valuable to this team it'd be tough to move him. I'd rather up the pick to a first and move a lesser piece

Yeah makes sense, I tried to look at what deals in the past have been made to prove you wrong, but I got nothing. Every trade for a Top 4 dman included a 1st round pick+. The only exceptions were the Klingberg deadline trade and the Ghost deadline trade.

Would you send us your 2023 2nds or Mittelstadt?</div></div>
I would do mittelstadt, calgary might have to add a B prospect or something, just so if tanev walks after one year, the Sabres aren't left with nothing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flames1217</b></div><div>He's a top pairing Defenseman.
How much do you expect to pay ?
I would assume he gets dealt for a package similar to what the Canucks received for Horvat.</div></div>
I think the <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/players/hampus-lindholm">Lindholm trade</a> would be a better comparison. So a 1st, 2x 2nds, a B prospect, and a cap dump for 50% retention and an 8 year extension.

Retool on the fly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flames1217</b></div><div>It feels as if Tanev is exactly the player that the Sabres need for their blue line. His experience, leadership and style of play would really help the young blue line. On top of that, he is still super effective in a shut down role and is an absolute warrior.
Mangiapane is from Toronto and I don't think convincing him to re-up with the Sabres would be the hardest thing to do at the end of his deal. Mangiapane has a non-stop motor and is a very reliable two way forward. I also feel like he would fit in very well with the way your offence is set up.
I understand the difference in salary being a concern and maybe an extra third could be added to make up for the difference. Nonetheless, I feel like this is very close in value without being a homer.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boos</b></div><div>I do like Tanev, a lot, and feel it would be a great fit. However, without an extension in place, I don't think giving up a player on the rise like Mitts would be worth it. Imo, a 24 yr. old pending RFA like Mitts should be traded for a player that's in that age range, with an equivalent talent and similar upside.
As for Mangiapane, I don't think they're in the market for a mid-six forward as their skilled forward ranks are filling up fast.
Having said all that, I think the trade. It is well thought out and definitely worth considering.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Funksoljah</b></div><div>I really like Tanev, and I think he would be an excellent addition for the Sabres. However in the case of Mangiapane I don't see any sort of need or fit there.
Mittelstadt is one of the better playmakers on the team. He's far better than many give him credit for also, even I was down on him at the start of the season. However, he just had a 60 point season while mostly playing with guys like Jost, Olofsson, Hinostroza and Asplund. Olofsson has a good shot, but he's otherwise unremarkable, the other 3 are essentially replacement level in terms of offense and provide very little in that regard. When Mitts moved to the top line after Tage was injured, he proceeded to put up 17 points in his last 11 games which were also at the point in the season where the pressure was on to win. He's also versatile in that he played both center and the wing, and he's BFF's with Dahlin.
Point is, it makes far more sense for Buffalo to keep him. Not saying it's not a decent trade in terms of value, just that I think Buffalo is a better team with Mittelstadt than they would be with Mangiapane.</div></div> Here is my cent and a half.
Olofsson is worth the second.
So it is Mittelstadt for Mangiapane and Tanev.
Tanev would be perfect on the blue iine and Buffalo should try to sign an extension.
Mangiapane is a place holder until Kulich or Savoie are ready.
Bring them up at the TDL, retain on Mangiapane and he should return more than a first.
That would be a great return for two players (Casey and Victor) who have prospects ready to move them out of the line up.
If Chris does not sign an extension move him at the TDL
Buffalo would end up Tanev (or a first), first, and second for Casey and Victor, that would be a great return.

Retool on the fly
It's an interesting Sabres trade because I like both of those players, but the numbers don't really add up. Mitts will be a 2024 restricted free agent while Tanev will be unrestricted at seasons end. Mangiapane will be unrestricted in 2025 so that's only two seasons of his service.
In addition, those two Flames represent a hefty cap-hit of $10.3M which probably isn't very enticing for management. At least not for a 2nd round pick.

Full Rebuild
I like the idea of tanev, but I don't see our gm giving up two seconds for one year of tanev. Plus I'm sure tanev has a nmc/ntc which could complicate things. Too bad, if he had an extra year or two there might be a conversation.
