Moving On From Bahl

He fills the bottom pairing role for me, most hits by a defensemen on the Devils, only Dman with a positive (+1) plus/minus, blocks shots, plays PK minutes, and will fight. That's it, not every Dman needs to put up points like L Hughes/ Hamilton.
Right now is Bahl a top 4 Defenseman on a Playoff team, no but I think he could fill that role if needed to do injury and he still can develop.
As for Hatakka, I still like his game. After this season though I would be very surprised if any rookie/inexperienced Dman plays major minutes next year with how bad letting Greaves and Severson ended up hurting the Defense this year.

Moving On From Bahl

How long are willing to wait on Bahl? Hattakaa looks really no different</div></div>
I like Bahl's floor a lot, I see him as a Scott Mayfield player: ideally a bottom pairing physical dman that can step up into top 4 if needed. I'd keep Bahl as long as he is fine with that role and doesn't ask for anything over $3 million a year.
Hattakaa looked good as well, but I think he might clear waivers at the beginning of the year unlike Bahl. So I assume he gets sent down and its Sieg- Hamilton, Hughes -Marino, Bahl -Nemec to start. Maybe they keep him as the 7th, but I'd rather they resign Desimone and try and let Hatakka play in the AHL.

Moving On From Bahl
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>Clown? Bahl blows! Every thread you comment on is completely wrong! Every damn one. Pettersson is a top pair d man in Pittsburgh. Hatakka was far better in 12 games than Bahl in most of them. Less physical, what did Bahl do this year that was physical, nothing! Who said anything about speed? It's skill, something Bahl continues not to show. You're against swapping a 6'6 230 guy who plays like he's 5'8 175 for a first pair d man earning sub $5M. Great job, if we follow you it'll be another 10 yrs. before we compete.
Whale nice idea, gotta get D better, Luke's a couple away from being the guy we need</div></div>
Bahl is 2nd on the Devils in hits, I doubt Smith resigns, Mcloed is out, and MacDermid is only playing 5 mins a night. Bahl isn't that physical but at this point its him, Bastian, and Lazar for the Devils. L Hughes, Hamilton, Marino, and Nemec aren't really physical.
Also Bahl will be 24 next year and just played 82 for the first time, you have to think he will come back better next season. It took 5 seasons after Petterson got drafted for him to play a full season, let Bahl develop.

In this ACGM I have Daws/ Poulter as the goalies in AHL, Breannn in the ECHL. Schmid is just the odd man out and rather get something for him them nothing. Plus I'm high on Stolarz and anything to get him signed so the Devils can have 2 NHL goalies with experience would be high on the list; so its not this game of musical goal-crease like the last couple years.

I am high on the Coyotes LHDmen and prospects. Moser and Valiamaki are good and I think one of Simashev, Kolyachonok, or Szuber could be ready in the next 2 years.
Skeji would probably want at least 5-6 years, and take up a bigger cap hit and spot from one of those although is defiantly the better player now.

Fits what Arizona has been doing, getting bigger players for a more physical game. Plus Zadorov and Myers 6'6"/235 lbs 6'8"229 lbs are similar size to Simashev and Lamoureux 6'4"/ 201 lbs 6'7"/ 199 lbs and would just be stopgaps until Simashev, Lamoureux, Sodestrom, Szuber, or whomever develops.
Berezkin for Carcone, yes teaammates with But/Simashev try and get all 3 to sign and play in the AHL next year. Also ARZ has a lot of young promising forwards with Carcone being the odd one out and get something for him instead of losing him on waivers.

The cupboard is already pretty nice: Geekie, Lamoureux, But, Simashev, Hrabal, Doan, Szuber, and Raty, plus Lipkin, Tanner, Miko, Castagna playing well in the NCAA.
I say ARZ swings a little bigger literally and metaphorically and try and sign Zadorov or Myers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>turtlemountain</b></div><div>Manson, Wood, Wagner, O’Connor all have the same number of fights as MacDermid this season.</div></div>
Honestly the possible fights are a benefit, think it might be an attitude change for the Devils. MacDermid in 150 mins this year is now 12 on the Devils in hits. Minus Bastian, Mcleod, Hischier, and Lazar the Devils have played like talent is all they need this year and look like they just expected to get back to the playoffs.
Maybe MacDermid throwing some hits starting scrums might shake something lose for the Devils.

No, but they did some cap based trades like Mueller, Subban, Siegenthler where they traded with teams with less cap space for better deals.
Also the Devils need to start getting prospects back in the system, badly. With Nemec in the NHL the only highly rated prospect they have left is Casey.

Blackhawks got a 1st for Mrazek (2 years left) and a 2nd (13 spots back). Value that taking on Campbell would be around a 1st, so roughly Holloway for Toffoli, Lazar, and Smith.
Really high on Holloway initially he fills Mcleod's spot, then bumps up to 2nd line faceoff man for Hughes soon.

Yep.
I would wanna see Holtz in the top 6 though with Toffoli gone. Also I honestly think Smith could return a 3rd with retention, guy with size and willing fight on a cheap expiring contract might be more tempting with some bigger teams in the playoffs.

I'm honestly not sure that Dumba is noticeably better defensively than Schmidt at this point, therefore I don't think it makes sense to acquire him.</div></div>
I thought Stanley wanted a trade at the beginning of the year or was that just Gawanke? Honestly Dumba probably doesn't play over Schmidt right away, just thought that WPG would want a righty for the playoffs and Stanley might be headed towards arbitration if he wants to try and get playing time next year.

He was best goalie in AHL last year. And it’s not uncommon for goalies to arrive at his age (Markstrom wasn’t starter until he was 27). Daccord is a technically sound goalie so even if he fell off a bit, he would be able to correct. Comes from family of goalies, dad is a goalie coach at BU. Only making $1.2n for two years. I think he would be worth it.</div></div>
Just too much for me for a question mark.
Fitzgerald is starting to give me late term Lou vibes: doing trades to fix holes that just cause more holes by trading all the picks and young players. The Devils have VV, Daws, Schmid, and I guess Poulter, I'm fine at this point to see give them time and see if any of them can be the starter long term.

If the Devils move a 1st for a goalie, I hope it is at least for one with more than one good season under them.
Daccord and Dumolin are good but not big enough improvements to warrant the Devils moving a 1st.

Why does Knight cost a 1st? 4.5 million for a sub .900 in the AHL coming out of the assistance program. I know he was a 1st round pick and was good for a little, but if, if, the Devils get a goalie go for an established one at this point. Devils have tried enough young goalies with potential with Daws, Schmid, Blackwood, and V V.

Bahl is the second in hits on the Devils: Bastian 93, Bahl 86, Lazar 85, Mcloed 82, and then it falls off a cliff Siegenthaler 48. Compared to rest of the NHL Bahl doesn't hit but on the Devils he's one of the few that does.
Hanifin is a great player but not worth Bahl, Clarke, and a 1st. At some point the Devils need to allow players to develop so that they don't need to trade to fill holes in the lineup every year. Bahl, Clarke, and 1st for Hanifin feels too much like Sharangovich for Toffoli. Give the young players a chance to develop into a Hanifan.

The last thing the Devils need is another defender that doesn't hit; keep bahl. It's only been two games without Mcleod and rest of the team looks like they are going through the motions looking at the offseason.
