Ottawas Next moves part 1 v2 deadline edition
If the Canucks are sending Mikheyev then the $1.5M retention from Pittsburgh means they're actually gaining cap space, no reason to be giving up an extra asset for unneeded extra retention.

Canucks decline. They aren't moving Lekkerimaki, both him and Willander are off limits. Any deal that starts with one of them ends there as well.

We could easily beat the Kotkaniemi and Necas offer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>I’d be asking for Svechnikov, Morrow and a pick if I’m Vancouver</div></div>
I'd definitely have started the ask with Aho/Svechnikov, Morrow/Nikishin, and the 24 1st. Given that the Canucks are competing, I could also see them wanting a Tkachuk-style return centred around a package like Necas, Pesce, and the 24 1st.

Tarasenko could be a good piece for Vancouver. However, I don't think they'd do that deal since management have said they won't be trading a 1st for a rental.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>theleano1</b></div><div>I agree do we know the actual package that was offered? I don't think we do but I could be wrong, that seems really low for me as well, that's a part of the reason I don't think there was actually any serious thought put into it outside of it being a backup plan</div></div>
To me it sounds like it was mostly just a situation where Carolina called and Allvin basically used trade talks with them as leverage to force a decision out of Petey. Gave him the ultimatum of you're either gonna extend/commit to extending, or you wont be wearing a Canucks jersey by the end of the year. Basically just wanted to use the leverage of a potential trade to force Petey's hand by taking some control instead of letting him hold all the cards.

Just messin around
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>Yeah it's interesting because a lot of the reporting basically was that the money is on the table but Petey was pretty meh about it. Not having to do with term/$$, but more about being stuck in Vancouver. Which I get. But hopefully for their sake, they can get it done.</div></div>
Problem for Petey wasn't being stuck in Vancouver, there were never reports that he didn't want to be here. Reports were that he wanted to play for a winning team, hence he didn't want to sign an extension at that point since in the offseason, the Canucks didn't look poised to be a winning team based on them being a lottery team the two years prior. No one expected the Canucks to come out and be the 1st place team in the league coming up to the TDL, but now they are and they are clearly a team that is winning and ready to compete. Petey also said he didn't want to talk extension during the season as he wanted to focus purely on hockey and didn't want the distractions of contract talks (he also did the same thing the last time he was an RFA, didn't begin negotiations until after the season ended and offseason began). Now he knows the team is a winning team and ready to compete, hence why he'd have the change of mind to want to work out an extension in season. It was also just reported by Friedman that the other big reason for his change of heart is that he knows teams have been calling the Canucks on him, and the Canucks had also engaged in talks with the Canes involving Petey. The following are Friedman's exact words on the situation on his latest appearance on the Jeff Marek Show.
"According to multiple sources, the Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes had discussions about Elias Pettersson that advanced to a stage where both the Canucks and the player needed to make serious decisions about where their relationship was headed. The Canucks ultimately decided in favour of another attempt at extending Pettersson, and he, facing the possibility Vancouver could move him, allowed agents Pat Brisson and JP Barry to resume negotiations. Previously, the talented forward indicated he preferred to wait until after the season."

Vancouver goes for Top 4 LD
Canucks decline. Matheson isn’t a fit for Vancouver. He’s an offensively-minded defenceman man who generates most of his value from the PP. Canucks already have two guys who fill that role and are much better players in Hughes and Hronek. Matheson wouldn’t get PP time in Vancouver, which would significantly limit the value he can provide. Then there’s also the issues between him and Pettersson, and I highly doubt you’d want to bring in a guy your superstar RFA hates. On top of that, Lekkerimaki is untouchable and won’t be traded under pretty much any circumstances. Deal just doesn’t make sense from Vancouver’s perspective in an way.

I'd guess a 4th, that seems to be the typical deadline rate for a bottom 6 forward, and I'd be happy with Vancouver picking him up at that price. If Guerin wanted a prospect I'd guess it'd be someone like Bloom or Glover from Vancouver, definitely not Raty.

Canucks decline. Can't see them moving Hoglander with how well he's played this season. Also can't see them moving Lekkerimaki, they've said they won't move a 1st for a rental and I'd assume that sentiment extends to their 1st round prospects as well.

Splashing Cash
Can't see the Canucks being interested in that swap. Podkolzin was rushed into the NHL and put in a spot where he wasn't properly able to adjust to the North American style of play. Same thing happened with Hoglander, and look at what a year in the AHL allowing him to adjust and round out his game did. Same deal with Podkolzin, he's been great in the AHL this year and will get another shot at the NHL next year. Harris also doesn't really fill a need for Vancouver. Canucks have their first pair set with Hughes/Hronek, and will most likely sign one of Cole/Zadorov to stay around (guessing Zadorov with how vocal management was about liking his game and targeting him for over a year). That leaves one spot on the 2nd pair, which will be filled by a free agent signing (guessing they'll go hard after Tanev given Hughes told management he's a guy to target). Then they've got Soucy/Juulsen on the 3rd pair, so there wouldn't be a spot in the top 6 for Harris.

Canucks decline. Juulsen has been great this year, don't think they'll want to give him up. They also already declined to deal a 1st for Tanev, so that isn't happening either.

Could Vancouver go for Savard
In theory Vancouver could go for Savard. However, I don't think they would, especially if that's the ask. They were reportedly interested in Tanev and wanted him in the Lindholm deal, but backed out when Conroy wanted a 1st for him. My guess is that Allvin is waiting things out in the hopes that the market for Tanev doesn't materialize and he can pick him up for cheaper at the TDL (probably a 2nd and maybe a low-tier prospect). A big reason for them targeting Tanev was because Hughes went to management and specifically said that Tanev is a guy they should target to bring in. If they weren't willing to give up a 1st for a specific player they were targeting in Tanev, then there's no shot they'd give up a 1st+ for a worse player who they have no relation to.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mv21227</b></div><div>Honestly as a Canucks fan I don’t completely hate this deal. Hintz is a great replacement 1C, and Stankoven looks great as well. Obviously wouldn’t want to take back Benn but if we get compensated for it then it’s bearable</div></div>
I think this is actually quite a good offer when I look at it. Hintz can replace a good chunk of Pettersson's production at the 1C, and Stankoven is pretty much a lock to be a top 6 forward in a year or two. Benn isn't too great with his contract, but given the deal would take place in the offseason he'd only have 1 year left, which really minimizes that aspect. Maybe we could re-route the 2nd we're getting to a 3rd team to get like $3M retention on Benn, which would also leave us the cap space to comfortably extend Lindholm without losing all our depth (Petey to Hintz saves $4M-$5M, Garland to Benn at $6.5M loses $1.5M, total savings $2.5M-$3.5M). Would leave us something like:
Benn - Miller - Boeser
Hoglander - Hintz - Lindholm
Stankoven - Suter - Mikheyev
Di Giuseppe - Aman - Lafferty/Joshua
