Jokiharju has a QO of 2.5 million and arbitration rights.

All these contracts are low.

The only way to get rid of Staal is him retiring. I also think since he signed the contract before he was 35 that he wouldn't count against the cap if he retires, could be wrong there though.

It's a 35+ deal, so it would. It doesn't matter how old he is when it's signed, it matters when the season starts, will he turn 35 before the end of that NHL year (July 1st). I could see Staal waiving to go to what was probably his boyhood team

Actually I think he's right - I believe the rule is 35 by the date of June 30th of the upcoming season, and with Jordans September birthday his extension isnt at 35+

EDIT: but I wouldn't trade Jordan for Kampf, he's gotta full NMC and will retire a Cane

I thought it was a deal signed after the player turned 35

I thought so too, but apparently its slightly more complicated. So if its an extension signed when they are 34, but they turn 35 before June 30th of the first year of that contract, its a 35+ contract. Here's the blub from the CBA FAQs page here:

"A contract is designated a 35+ contract if the players age on the first year of the contract is 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the year of the effective contract).

35+ contracts that are two years in length or longer and:
1. Have a signing bonus in the 2nd or later year, OR
2. Are front-loaded
Will not benefit from a reduced cap hit regardless of the players location of play, termination, retired status, or a buyout. This rule was introduced by the NHL to prevent teams from backloading contracts past when the player was expected to retire. An exception to this rule is that a team will receive a $100,000 cap hit reduction if the player is on the 2nd or later year of the contract and assigned to the minors"

I only know this because of Patrick Kane, who turned 35 this year before he signed his deal with the Red Wings, is on a standard player contract. Staal was 34 when he signed it his extension, making it a SPC

M NTC Kampf to "anywhere" isn't a trade. Are there teams on his trade list that have cap? Also Fast has a NTC till January 1, 2025. He won't be waiving to Sens.

M-NTC doesn't protect him from waivers. So yes, anywhere

So that's 1.2.m cap hit when he clears waivers.

He won't clear, someone will want him. Plus, you don't think he's terminate and look for a new home rather than return to the AHL? Or go back to Europe? C'mon

Europe doesn't pay anywhere close to 2.4m American for two years. He's stays North America.
But if he was that easy to move, wouldn't the Leafs do it, instead of taking on 2.9m Staal

I feel like Sens definitely accept. Fast would be an awesome bot6 addition and we're desperate for RW.
