Moving on from Debrusk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DFence</b></div><div>That’s a good team. Lindholm and Necas do feel like they will be targeted by the Bruins. They make so much sense. I would prefer the money going to old and slow Dillon partly goes to Heinen in between 2-2.5M. They could get a depth defenseman and get reinforcements at the deadline if necessary. Plus Lohrei showed he can tilt the ice in the top four. I would flip Coyle and Poitras as the Fred-Coyle-Geekie line becomes a true shutdown line, and Poitras could explode playing with skill players.</div></div>
Of for sure! I could certainly see them flipping Poitras and Coyle a bit deeper into the season if he develops into a true 2C but I think hes got to put on some more weight and get some solid reps in first to there - either way coyle is much better slated at 2C or 3C rather than 1C.
I put Dillon with CM73 to start because although he is slower, he still was near the top of the league in blocked shots and hits so Lohrei can develop a stronger shutdown game with Peeke and time to QB the powerplay so McAvoy and Lindholm dont have to log extra minutes. I think eventually Lohrei will take that top spot if continues to improve at the rate he did this season and your bottom pair of Peeke / Dillion can focus on physicality in limited minutes. Like you mentioned they're sitting pretty but I want to see them continue to develop these guys rather than rushing them into top minutes and slowing development.

Three Way Deal
My assumption is Carolina is going to resign Skjei and give Morrow a shot at RD. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t covet Ullmark more with their current organizational depth chart.
Also, I think Boston needs to add Lysell and atleast a 2026 second to make it interesting for Carolina.

Stephenson and Chychrun and Necas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DFence</b></div><div>Coyle is a third line center. Stephenson is a second line center. Fourth line wingers are the slowest duo in the league. Heinen and Boqvist would be much better options. Defense looks phenomenal even though I am not the biggest fan of Chychrun and think he's generally overrated.</div></div>
The thing I like about Chychrun is as a D he's really offensive minded, and we need offense, so if we're getting a roster player from Ottawa i'd want either him or Batherson. I don't think D need to be a priority, but I think he'd work out in Boston. Only problem is we'd have to sign him and Lohrei next year

Lindholm Is Inevitable
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DFence</b></div><div>Good analysis. I don't disagree. I think the Bruins want to be the best defensive team in the league and are willing to deal with Lindholm's limitations offensively. This roster construction would be very tough to score on.</div></div>
That's fair, but 2 years ago he had a pretty tough series against EDM. Before that he was pretty average (defensively) in the playoffs. Moreover, the Backlund line always got the toughest matchups in CGY.
He's doing well so far this year, but he's far from Bergeron/Barkov level defensively, so buyer be aware.

thinking out loud
from a bruins perspective, I really hate this for the following reasons:
1. Swayman term - go way way way longer.
2. Trenin over Heinen. There's just no earthly reason to let Heinen walk to pick up Trenin.
3. Ullmark return - if that's it, just keep him, and ditch the OEL signing.
4. The OEL signing - Lohrei showed it. I was skeptical but he's a top four guy now.
5. Duchene - I just don't think he's a center anymore, and no interest in 36 or 37 year old Duchene.
6. Poitras at wing - no.

Lindholm Is Inevitable
Lindholm is a good player, but he can be pretty frustrating when he's not going offensively.
He does a lot of good things defensively to make up for it, but he still needs to be proped up by his linemates to be worth a $7.5-8M pricetag. I think BOS would regret that signing within 3-4 years.

in fairness, they don't really have any bad contracts.
I think 5x5 is fair for him.

you think theres a chance debrusk gets $6.5? I thought that offer was heavy.
Signing Heinen should be a no brainer. at 5 on 5 he might have been their best forward in the playoffs.

Top Six Revamp
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DFence</b></div><div>No I would imagine that all seven Canadian teams are off the table, and probably several of the coastal teams like SJ, LAK, VAN, ANA, etc.
I would imagine teams like PHI, PIT, COL, BUF are the other teams interested in Ullmark. I think NJ is definitely the best match, and I do think the Bruins would be happy to just get the 2025 first round pick. Will there be a sweetener? Could go either way.</div></div>
You’re probably right about this. Let’s review the teams:
PHI: they just sign Ilya Fedotov to a $3M+ per season contract. They have two goalies under contract. I do not see a fit
PIT: they are in cap trouble again. They would have to shed someone’s salary to make this work. If they were somehow able to trade Ryan Graves, that has a cost associated with it. It’s a draft pick they can no longer trade for Linus Ullmark
COL: this is very difficult to assess. I don’t know what’s going to happen with Valeri Nichushkin. They also have Mikko Rantanen on an expiring contract that is going to need a pay raise. They also have no draft picks in the first three rounds of the 2025 draft to trade
BUF: they believe they have their tandem of the future with Levi and Lukkonen. They have capable goaltenders on a good cost control, there’s no reason to add another goaltender. I also don’t see a scenario where Ullmark wants to go BACK to Buffalo.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DFence</b></div><div>There are also non-competitive teams that think they can be. I assume Ullmark will be traded with an extension in place. Teams with young cores are looking at this two years from now saying they could have an elite goaltender locked up with a young talented team in front of Ullmark.</div></div>
Ullmark of course has to agree to any extension. I cannot see him wanting to go to a “non competitive” team if his goal is to have postseason success. He has personal reasons for wanting to stay in New Jersey as well. We got his old teammate Erik Haula and Ullmark and Jesper Bratt share an agent (I think they’re close).
I cannot see Ullmark wanting to extend with a team like Ottawa (no offense) that hasn’t sniffed the playoffs in some time.

Bruins have 21mil in cap this upcoming year.
Even if Sway gets say 7.5m x 7, we'd rather JDB walk and resign Heinen. Then we'll have 11mil to secure a #1 C, and a 3LD in FA.
Team will be filled out with an additional 4-5 F fighting for a spot out of camp, and 3 D fighting for #7 D, not to mention Bussi is ready in goal. If we keep Ullmark we'll lose Bussi to waivers, but we still have Dipietro, Keyser, Dyck, and Svedback ready to take action in Providence.

How many of those teams have a first rounder to give away without completely depleting their store of draft picks? I think you’ll find that part hard to get around. Any team that wants to be competitive has likely spent several trade deadlines trading away draft picks, they don’t have that many left.

Young Scoring Line
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DFence</b></div><div>Well the Bruins also need scoring. I don't think putting Frederic and Geekie on Poitras' line is ideal either.
I think Lysell gets a chance this year to give the team another forward on an ELC but I don't know where he fits in the lineup. He is not a fourth liner. Pastrnak is RW1. That leaves RW with either Coyle or Poitras. Coyle is a good two way forward but is not much of a playmaker.</div></div>
I think the overall goal is to get Poitras into the top 6, but I don't think he has the ceiling to jump right in with Pasta. A 3rd line of Freddy- Coyle- Geekie would be big and with a decent balance of scoring and two way play. Sign a 1C to play between Pasta and Zacha, pair Marchy with Poitras and sign a scoring winger. Then when they want to play Lysell, move Pasta down to give Poitras some time with him and let Lysell prove himself on the top line. The issue with the Bs is scoring talent, so they'll slot in wherever they can once they're on the team.

That values Holtz less than what NJ should value him. I kind of view him as Jersey’s version of Lysell. He’s got enough upside that it isn’t worth trading him for what other teams will likely value him at. They only do it if they believe someone is appropriately valuing him

Heinen and DeBrusk walk. Maroon comes back
Sweeney is likely going to leave a middle six spot up for grabs for either Lysell or Merkulov. You can't keep Lysell down another year. Therefore, the Mantha signing doesn't happen.
I think they find a vet 6/7 D with size. Wotherspoon plays the early days Connor Clifton role.
Not Sold on Necas, I think if you do get him, Carolina is going to end up with Ullmark.
Poitras stays on the 3rd line most likely unless he makes a big jump.
Even if JDB comes back. You need another impactful scoring forward. Maybe you find that in Lysell, but I think you need to bump Zacha down to the 3rd line ideally.
