Please tell me why Winnipeg would trade the better defenceman in this deal? What does this do for Winnipeg?

I would agree, it would be less risky for Wpg to re-sign him to a big contract. We do not have the upcoming prospects that will need bigger contracts like NJ does.

Scheifele and Helle deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Yeah, I just can't follow the logic in the Boston trade.
Hellebuyck in your scenario returns very little because "historically goalies don't go for much", but then somehow an unproven goalie pulls a 1C coming off a 40G season and 6 point per game seasons.
So, the elite goalie returns almost nothing and the unproven one returns a gold mine. Hard to rationalize.</div></div>
One is 30 and one is 25. His career is just starting. Scheifele is also coming up on 30 if he isn't already. Fredrick is a former 1st round pick. So, yes, the goalie still doesn't hold more value than a Center.
I want to belive Helle will get a massive return, historically I just have nothing to base that off of. I think we will all be disappointed. I also don't think the trade deadline will get much. I cannot honestly ever remember a top tier goalie being moved at a deadline.
As a Jets fan, my first hope would be to re-sign both.

Correct, he will get Sorokin type money. I would also imagine no longer than 5 years.

Vanecek could be moved to another team. I just don't see a fit for him in Winnipeg. To me he is just another Pavalec.

Scheifele and Helle deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>I understand your thinking Cory, but there's just no chance the Jets sell that low on Hellebuyck and Scheifele. They'd be better off just keeping them and letting them walk as UFA's as that has more value to the Jets than the trades.
Also, according to the insiders, Garland is a free asset, so he should not cost even that much. Taking on his contract for free is good value for Vancouver.</div></div>
I hear ya, historically goalies don't go for much.
I think the Jets win in that Scheifele trade. Swayman in a #1 goalie in this league. I think he is all but proven he can take that role. I really like Fredrick, I think he is just the type of player this team needs.
I may be the only one, but I definitely think Garland is a good hockey player. Maybe not a top line guy, but for under 5 mil, he can fit in well on the middle six. Appleton to me is a dime a dozen, Stanley doesn't want to be here, maybe you remove the pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WPGSK</b></div><div>The only good deal there for the JETS is the one with BOS.
Garland isn't a good fit in WPG. The Jets don't need any small overpriced guys. Garland is one of the guys that VAN needs to package with a pick or prospect to get rid of him.
The NJD deal is brutal for WPG. 2 prospects for a Vezina goalie? Hmmmm...</div></div>
I would agree, but goalies don't hold as much value as you may think. What was the last big haul for a goalie? Vegas proved it last year with Adin Hill that you don't need to spend a ton on a goalie no matter what their caliber is. Goalies are a fickle bunch, when they are hot, they are unbeatable, and any goalie can get hot. Montreal was a horrible team when they went to the final. It was only because Carey Price played unreal. Same with Adin Hill this year. Even Bobrovsky in Florida.

And i don't see them giving up a lot to only take one year run with him and then him walking in free agency.</div></div>
Not sure of their finances and how they see the fit. This is all without an extension and why the return is less than flattering.

Fair point. Isn't Boston's timeline the same every year? WIn, Win, Win. What about him doesn't fit and please don't talk about his +/- stats? 5 people are on the ice contribute to that stat and a guy who also puts in forth line minutes when someone gets hurt shouldn't have that fall directly on his shoulders. Is there work to be done their, for sure, but that is a really poor tracking stat. Also, the whole locker room issues is a myth. His whole team voted him to be a leader so that should show the knowledgeable people what that means.

Idk how Jets fans aren't questioning both Lowry and Morrissey as leaders after their post season interviews.
I think he's very overated, took till his 9th season to finally break the 30 point plateau which should be standard for a good 3C, in his career year he went 41 games with ONE GOAL, literally half a season with one goal, only in Winnipeg would a guy with that track record be considered good... lol
He is good at fighting which he should be doing more of from the 4th line with 10 minutes of ice time, he'd be an ideal 4C.</div></div>
The guy is a shutdown player. How many shut down players do you know that get big points or many points in general. Also, the whole team has every reason to be disappointed in Bowness and how he handled that situation. Guy should've been fired immediately. He was in the locker room before hand and didn't say a word about how he was feeling.
Imagine you not doing your job and you are sitting in your bosses office and he doesn't say anything. Later you go home and turn on the news and see that after he sat with you he went to the media and then blamed you and said you were pretty much garbage. Now you have to face people you know and discuss how you were just embarrassed without any idea that it was going to happen.
while I agree with every thing he said. It should have been said behind closed doors. For a veteran coach, it seemed like he threw everyone under the bus to try and keep his own job. The players had every right to call him on it. Every one seen it for what it was. I was embarrassed for the team the way it all unfolded.

Of course not.
2017-18 (rookie season) : 63 games but not because he was injured... He played in the AHL too
2018-19 : missed 12 games
2019-20 : played all the 71 games (covid)
2020-21 : missed 7 games
2021-22 : missed 23 games
2022-23 : missed 14 games
Not ideal but pretty much all players miss games. It's only the last 2 years that he missed more than he should. He only missed 19 games in his first 4 seasons.</div></div>
Like i said. I like Chabot and you right all guys miss games. He plays basically the one position the Jets do not need any help from. We have Morrissey, Samburg, Dillion and Heinola all trying to claim that spot. Is he in upgrade on 3/4 of those guys yes. Is he an 8 million dollar player, probably not in my opinion.

This is going to sound really crazy, I know, I hear it, but I personally think Lowry holds more value on this team than Nylander does. Lowry would be my pick to be the next captain of this team and I feel like he is a good person to have running that room.
I would not make this trade. Plus Nylander's dad is a greedy ****. No chance he re-signs here.

Demelo = UPL
Hellebuyck = Middelstadt (figure he will always be a 3rd liner) Ostlund (prospects potential unless named McDavid, Crosby, Matthews are always unknown) the 1st will be a high pick if they make a run in the playoffs.

Bucky's value is being undervalued terribly on this site. He's a 3 time vezina finals and one time winner. He's a top goalie still in his prime and should be valued as such.
Bucky makes Buf a playoff team, which is something sabers fans should be excited out. making this deal for him should be a no brainer. I still want him to stay in the Peg.</div></div>

What is the deal with Lysell? I read an article a while back that he has had some concussion issues and management will be taking things slow with him because he is "delicate" Do you think he will ever play?
