No way we are done making moves.
Turbo is not good enough to be first line, I imagine that will be Bunting, he won’t be a 4th liner. Turbo is likely gone, he has been on a downward trend (a steep one) and doesn’t fit in our line anywhere anymore.
I also don’t see us paying a 3rd pair defenseman >$5MM. I know we are shopping Pesce, but I really think he gets re-signed and Skjei moves.

Nylander Carolina reverse look
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>So, your answer is to have Carolina run a RD trio if a guy that couldn't get game time last year for love nor money in Coghlan, a dude that's been rejected by 5 different teams in DeAngelo, and a 39 year old Brent Burns... no</div></div>
Buddy you have to get over this argument. Burns is excellent even being 38 and is RD1, Chatfield could slot into RD2, and Tony would be RD3, Coghlan as 7D. Our RD is fine. I do think re-signing Pesce and moving Skjei makes more sense and then fill LD3 in - I don't see a world where we go into the season with our LD3 makes over $5MM.

Pesce in the discussion again
This is surprisingly one of the better offers I have seen. With that said, take away Petruzzelli and the 2025 2nd and I think this could go through and help both teams - those additions are pointless to this proposal and Canes aren't interested. I will say that it is more likely that CAR tries to make that Skjei instead of Pesce. Imagine Skjei, 2024 1st, and Raanta or a top prospect for Nylander.

Carolina
VAN is massively overvaluing their draft picks here. Why would we trade a 2nd paid RD for a terrible 3rd pair LD and an even worse 4th line winger at best. Neither one of those pieces would make CAR lineup. Quantity of the return doesn't mean there is any quality there, because there isn't. This move doesn't help CAR in any way, Canes say no.

Where to begin here? Slavin is one of 3-4 untouchable players on our team. This is an interesting one though because it almost balances out for those 2 (it doesn't). The addition of Nylander's offense does not negate the subtraction of Slavin's defense and leadership. If Nylander was already signed for 6-7 years this trade may go through, but no chance this is accepted. Brady Skjei and a draft pick for Nylander is much more likely.
Turbo, Slavin, and a high second round pick for Nylander and a prospect who has never played an NHL game and numbers from juniors look bad is definitely a troll trade - the trade as a package is awful for CAR.
Why would we trade a 7D and a draft pick for a worse 7D? Why is this even on here?

Eklund Nonsense
Yeah...Canes say no.
Jonas and Pesce are not comparable. Why would we trade a 2nd pair RD with a 3rd pair LD? Jonas has 1/2 the PPG as Pesce and 1/3 his +/-
Dube probably edges out Drury just a tad, but we don't need a 4th line winger.
This "trade" is a massive net negative for CAR.

Playoffs means no picks
There are a couple of things to look at here:
Pesce (28) - 185 points (and great defense) in 557 GP (.33 PPG), +82, .37 PIM per game, .36 playoff PPG (+1) / $4.025MM salary with 1 year left
Myers (33) - 342 points (and okay defense) in 918 GP (.37 PPG), -7, .77 PIM per game, .30 playoff PPG (-4) / $6MM ($4MM after retention) salary with 1 year left
Look at the above, why would Carolina trade equal salaries for next season for a player who is 5 years older, with equal offensive production, much worse defense, takes twice as many penalties? This is a massive net negative!
Whoever said Nils is a "solid" winger is just as delusional as Canes fans overvaluing Drury in trade discussions. Nils is a .38 PPG, .32 PIM per game, -15. 4th liner at best. Suzuki may very well be a bust and hasn't played a game in the NHL yet (he had some serious injuries that he has been making his way back from), but has potential to crack the lineup depending on what he can show this year with his health, as of now a 4th line prospect. For this one it is difficult to base on little to no NHL stats as a comparable, but based on the last few years on lesser league play Suzuki has much better numbers. The biased part of me wants to call this a negative for the Canes, but I can't say definitively. Nils doesn't crack the Canes lineup though.
The 1st and the 4th are the value here. The 1st covers the discrepancies with the Pesce/Myers and the 4th would only be to sweeten it for the Canes to take Nils.
As a whole this trade doesn't make either team better, they'd both be worse off. Vancouver needs their picks to build, Carolina needs their pieces to push for a cup. This would make the active roster for the Canes worse, which is what they are trying to improve to win a cup, we have future picks already and honestly draft picks in the NHL are not worth as much as people think they are - unless they are top 5.
From the above Canes say no.

ALL IN
...yeah, I don't think either team even remotely considers this.
TOR - the fanbase may actually burn the city down if Matthews was traded.
CAR - the fanbase would riot if Slavin was moved.
BOTH - this doesn't really address a need for either team. TOR is already paying a LD1 $7.5MM for the next good while and Slavin is due a raise to around $8-8.5MM after next season. CAR is already paying a 1C $9.75MM after this year until 2032. CAR needs a RW1 (Nylander) and depth 4th line F and 3rd pair D. Change Slavin to Skjei and change Matthews to Nylander - change KK to a prospect or Drury - remove the 2nd and you likely have a lot closer to a deal that would make both teams better. Your original proposal makes both teams worse.

Karlsson is not worth that much. Take Kochetkov and Drury off and it likely would then be a conversation "maybe" - Pesce is moveable, but I really don't think the Canes are all that in on EK anymore - I think DeAngelo fills the "plays good offense and bad Defense" void. I also think the Canes are a lot more likely to move Skjei because Slavin and Orlov are top 2 LD for at least the next 2 years and we aren't going to pay a 3rd pairing D $5-7MM.
Also, that would be exceptionally rude to send Turbo to Chicago after how they treated him when he was there before.

8 MORE YEARS
This is atrocious! Where do I begin?
First, I hate to break it to some of the fans, but Staal line will stay as the "3rd", and KK is our 2C and that isn't changing.
Scheifele over Nylander is a choice, our biggest forward group need is RW. Turbo is likely being shopped aggressively as he doesn't fit our team anymore and has not looked great for over a year now. Martinook out of the lineup is laughable while keeping Drury and Noesen in.
Tony is definitely not going to be on the first line and is going to be 3rd pair or 7th D. There is no way we start the year with our 3rd defensive pair making $5MM and almost $8MM

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Canes don't have the RD Depth or the Cap Space to make this work. They'd essentially be turning themselves into the Leafs from like 3 years ago</div></div>
I get you likely "like" the player, but this swap we do 10x out of 10. Nylander for Pesce straight would be a massive steal! Chatty as RD2 and Tony as RD3 (Cogs is also RD). You have to be realistic that what our team needs is better production from our forward group, which Nylander would provide. Pesce while good is a middle of the road 4D and Chatfield can take his spot without any drop-off. I see it more likely that we roll with Pesce (unless we can get a return like Nylander) and shop Skjei, sign a 3rd pairing LD - we aren't going to pay a 3rd pairing defenseman $5-7MM. This would absolutely not put us in the Leafs position from 3 years ago.

2324 Team v1
That was my struggle. For the moves to work the best (from my armchair GM seat) we needed to clear a bit more cap to fit the moves in correctly. I used getting Nylander as the focal point that necessitated the other moves. Turbo would be a great addition for ANA to pair with their young budding stars - the 2nd is for Skjei retention, Turbo was to clear our cap to have enough room, I did debate a 3rd or 4th in return, as the move would be a necessity for us so we would get less return in this scenario. From my armchair GM standpoint I wanted to avoid CHI as a partner because of how they did Turbo when he was there before, so ANA offered in good faith for him as well, he just doesn't fit our team anymore.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hurricanes73</b></div><div>O man I feel like a dick right now. I didn’t realize you were new new like that. I would like to welcome you to the community and apologize for my earlier comments. If you need any tips let me know. Congrats on the baby and always feel free the reach out. Sorry for being harsh, I didn’t realize you were so new, I would suggest don’t edit a team after you post it tho most of the time because it’s like publishing an unfinished product. I get you’re getting used to it so again I apologize.
Talking hockey- pretty decent value for chychrun (although maybe not with retention) and I love the idea of bringing back Nino. Overall the revised team looks good and I think the revision makes it a much better team. Sorry for thinking you were a troll at the start. Again, welcome to the community and if you ever need any help I am here for you.</div></div>
No worries, I’ve most likely responded the same way to people who have appeared probably the same way that I did on Reddit many times. Yes I am new, new like today 😂
Such a tricky place honestly with working with it all, biggest block for me is Necas and Bear right now:
I’m not sure where Necas would fit with our current team landscape. Hard to pinpoint our lines with a player like him with Staal pretty much holding down a line that is tethered to his play-style. Love Staal and what he has done for our team and the things he brings, but (may get crucified for it) I think our team has grown past him and his $6MM holds a lot of our ability to do more things back.
Bear I really do like, but getting COVID (apparently long at that) right after his injury really put a damper on his season and a lot of fans hopes. If we knew he was recovered I would likely include him on this roster somehow on 3rd pair. He was starting to play well on the system before that injury. I do think if we get him back a shorter bridge deal would be all I would offer, maybe the $2-2.5MM range.
Some other notes - I do actually like Skjei, but not $5.25MM worth. Unlike some fans I don’t see Suzuki coming into the NHL and making an impact, I would hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see it at this point - I think the hype outweighs reality. Martinook may be slightly overpaid, and while his production isn’t great, I feel he gets too much hate. I am cautiously curious about what Kase can do. I think the demand for Nino is lower than he thought it was going to be so there may be a real chance he comes back if we want him.
I’m liking reading through the armchair-GM stuff right now because it’s another way I can chat with fans about thoughts, ideas, etc.
