trading one pick for future assets that will be worth more when trading for actual nhl players because you'll actually (Hopefully) be a playoff team, yes. Rebuild and hockey 101

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>I guess it's possible Foligno and Donato get moved at the deadline. You have the Hawks retaining in all 3 trades when they only have 2 retention slots available, so that's a problem. Can't see the Hawks making that deal with the Leafs. Even with no retention on Murphy, trading him for a one round move up in the draft is a terrible return. With retention, it's even worse. Hawks value Murphy way more than this. No chance they make this deal.</div></div>
you've clearly overestimated Murphy's abilities

I don't think they're going to seperate hall and bedard for even a single shift this year. Hall clearly is a great playmaker, just needs to work on passing through sticks & feet on the rush

I agree guys like Anderson, Entwistle, Tinordi and Johnson won't be back. They aren't part of the future and are easily replaced. Rather see guys like Dach, Slaggert and Tepley get some NHL ice time than roll out those guys for another year.</div></div>

Well said, I completely agree with everything *Except* I think reichel WILL get his shots at Center this season, however I think they'd start him off at AA's wing simply because that's where he lit up the scoresheet last season

2024-25 Free Agency and Re-Signings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jco5ta5</b></div><div>There's a lot wrong with this.
1) I don't think Stamkos takes 2 years. He'll likely want to stay in Tampa.
2) I can't see signing Stastny to a 4th line role. With the free agent class of 2024 being a big one, they should make a splash for a 2C.
3) Don't think we need to qualify Entwistle, Johnson, or Katchouk. They're 4th line fringe NHL players who can be replaced with younger, speedier players we have in the system.
4) No need for Tinordi. See #3.
5) I would also expect to make a splash at defense as well in FA 2024.</div></div>
Stamkos is 33, and will be 34 by this time next year, and the fact that he hasn't been re signed yet also kindof concerns me. Hawks need RW depth, I think he offers that
As for Statsny, I still think hawks will want to be bad enough that season and make another 4th line vet deal to hit the cap, if not it doesn't really matter, the move isn't that big anyways
I think Katchouk would be a decent 4th liner, he's young anyways, as for the 2 others i just have them as healthy scratch placeholders, they could honestly be anybody but with the reese johnson re signing (I think last year?) It was mentioned how much they liked the leadership he brought to the room, and grit he brought to the game. Same think for Entwistle, although both players do stink if i'm honest. I'm not basing this off my decision, I just think that the hawks would like to keep them just a while longer especially since they're young but if not, again not a big deal I could definently see them leaving
See #3, Hawks had him wearing the A last season so I don't think we let him walk, give him a healthy scratch role or something along those lines
It seems more and more like Kyle is targeting the 2025-26 FA class, it's been pretty obvious via the moves he's been making lately. As for defense, I don't think you can or even want to make a splash because your right side is stuffed (Unless you want a 3RD splash?, or trade Murphy), and LD too unless you want to send somebody like Kaiser, Vlasic, or somebody along those lines down(Phillips, Roos,EDM), it's another year of being bad-ish and focusing on defensive development.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kyle_Davidson</b></div><div>What’s the point of getting 5th round picks back for Foligno or Perry… let them play out the season if they aren’t asking for a trade or worth something the hawks can’t refuse at the deadline.
Donato should be worth more than a 5th, if he is a trade candidate… hawks have a lot of cap coming off next season and you do need people to play for the team so him having term likely makes him more valuable to us then any other team.
If Murphy can get you a first with minimal difficulty, (not giving up a 2nd) then it might be worth it to trade him. If you have to finagle a cap dump and lose a guy like Murphy to upgrade like 20 spots in the draft then it’s not worth it. As the trade stands I say hawks reject.
Generally I feel like the part of the rebuild where you HAVE to trade everyone for any future asset is over. The hawks have tons of second round picks over the coming years, and additional 1sts for the next two years. That’s not to say we shouldn’t try an accumulate additional assets but we don’t need to force it.</div></div>
Looking at the roster, there isn't many players you can essentially "trade" and I think Murphy is just one of if not the best option right now if you want a better asset return than food scraps (5th, 7th ect), there was already rumors of Brodie leaving Toronto and Murphy going to Toronto so I think it works fine. You're not just "Moving up 20 spots", you're getting future draft capital (Which Davidson has put a huge emphasis on) and giving up one of your surplus seconds this year in order to do it. It's basically swapping D-Men and gaining a future asset at the cost of a second you're likely going to move at some point that season anyways.
I like Perry and Foligno a lot, they just both look like very flippable contracts(Because of term) and i seriously DOUBT davidson doesn't flip one of the two at the deadline, I initially did Perry but looking back at it the RW depth he provides is great and I think he'll be more important to us next year than Foligno who doesn't really have a solid roster spot on the team after this year.
Same thing with Donato, just looks like a very flippable contract and although i can see him with us for the 2 years, the market will be definently there for a depth, all positions forward like him.
I don't think you have to "Force" trades but when making this I didn't like the thought of such a boring deadline, I feel like making a bigger trade would be more interesting and shake things up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Hawks aren't trading away a 2nd for a one year rental. That's the opposite of what teams just starting a rebuild do. As for the Hawks right side, Raddysh will be one of the two top 6 RW, and either Johnson or Anthanasou will be the other. You really want to spend a 2nd to upgrade 3RW from Donato or Kurashev to Beau? I'd much rather keep the pick. Besides, if Kyle from Chicago was really interested in adding another RW, Hawks could sign a UFA like Tatar and hang on to that pick. Value might be fair but this deal makes no sense for a rebuilding Hawks team.</div></div>
All your points are valid, I just see it as getting a legit RW instead of Johnson/AA who barely play it. It’s definently an upgrade from Johnson id say and im sure Kyle isn’t planning on using all our seconds this year. As for tatar who knows. If he really likes beauvillier I could see him as a good 1RW/2RW for the next year or two
