I don't mind the Edmonton trade. I don't like the idea of giving up a 1st, but you've added a 5th to help mitigate that pain.

I'm not sure of the values of the other trades, but they don't look far fetched. $20M in cap space - great job!

That's a lot of trades and yet the DRW defense still sucks. cry I think they're all reasonable though Z will never be traded; put Nielsen in that trade instead.

Unfortunately, Detroit's defense won't improve until the summer of 2019, when Doughty, Ekman-Larsson, and Eriksson are all free agents. Surly the Wings can land one of them(maybe 2 if they make these trades).

As much as Zetterberg is getting older and is still expensive, we'd gladly take him. MTL can use all the scoring we can get.

Good trades all around. I do think Detroit would have to retain around 1/3rd of Helm's contract for Pittsburgh. I Also think Detroit should get more for Zetterberg, I'd probably say a 1st from MTL, maybe Detroit flipping back a 5th or something.

Terrible deal for New Jersey. 5m can be spent a lot better than Ericsson. But almost all your trades have Detroit not taking back money which doesn't;t happen much now in the cap era. Would Montreal want 36 year old Zettenberg at 6.1m for four years or Pittsburg taking Helm at 3.85 for four years? My opinion no. They can sign better players cheaper though maybe not this year. The Rangers and Oilers deals might be good because the term is shorter.

New Jersey makes the deal for the pick they'd get and to reach the floor.
Montreal needs scoring if they want to win a Cup before their window closes, so they get a proven playoff contributor and obvious great locker room guy.
Pittsburgh needs a 3C and Helm has a lot of playoff experience and is tremendous on the PK. Detroit would retain some on his salary.

Sorry Johnny that isn't how "hitting the cap floor'" works. Arizona does it by taking on guys on LTIR or playing in Russia. This way they up their cap but do not actually spend actual $$$$. So the Devils spends money on a real hockey player not Ericsson. I just didn't think Montreal would want to spend all that money on Zettenberg, obviously Detroit doesn't . Montreal doesn't really have a window. They're pretty average. Agree with the Pens would want retention on Helm, which just might defeat the purpose of the trade for Detroit.
