I don't think Calgary will give DeBrusk more than 2 years tbh. I also have a very hard time seeing Mangiapane returning that when there are so many wingers (ie DeBrusk) that could be signed for that cap hit for free this summer.

I like the Detroit trade, not sure they would bite though. Don't think Florida bites either

I like these trades a lot, except the Knight trade, why would the flames need another goalie they made room for Wolf in the Marky trade. Besides that this is a decent post, which is rare on this site

I kind of of see DeBrusk as Hudler, Frolik esque, good veteran who I think fits really well on that line with Zary and Pospisil. I agree that I would like less term but there are going to be a lot of teams involved and I think Calgary either needs to pay up big or give him term. He'd be 32 at the end of that deal and I think the cap hit would be really really palatable by then, hopefully the Flames have turned a corner by then and he can play the Coleman type role. Agreed on the Buffalo front, that's pretty hopeful for Mangiapane

Because their current starting goalie for the Wranglers is Ignatjew, Knight is waiver exempt and can play with the Wranglers until they are sure he's mentally back at an NHL level and able to play. if it doesn't work out the Flames give up a 3rd for a 19 year old prospect, if it does pan out, Vladar is easy to move this season and a tandem of 2 23 year old goalies with ample team control is a pretty good way to move the team in the right direction.

I get the idea of comparing DeBrusk to Hudler and completely agree as that would be a good reason to bring him in (I would play him with Zary and Huberdeau though). I just don't see either side agreeing to a contract like that. DeBrusk will certainly get interest around the league this summer but I just don't see him agreeing to the deal structured that way. He turns 28 in October and this deal would carry him until he's 31 (turning 32), it will be much more difficult for him to cash in again at that age. I think for both sides a 2 year deal with a higher cap hit is more ideal. DeBrusk plays 1.5 seasons here before being flipped to a contender where he then gets another shot at cashing out before he's 30, Calgary is able to go into next season with a little more stability in their top 9 after likely losing all of Mangiapane, Kuzmenko, and Sharangovich by this seasons deadline

Why would a team pay a 2nd+3rd for 6 mill mangiapane when Debrusk for example is available for free at 5.25 as you have him here

Have you talked to DeBrusk? Would he be interested in Buffalo? What do you know that everyone else doesn’t? How are you always so linear and narrow sighted on everything? I’m genuinely asking because it’s fascinating.

The Wolf, Pelletier and Kylington signings are a bit steep and DeBrusk is gonna want at least $6m/yr on a 4yr contract. TOR is looking at DeBrusk as a Bertuzzi replacement as well apparently

If you want a future Coleman type player, I think you need to look at Defensively Responsible Two-Way Guys with High Compete, like Mason Appleton for example

I’m all for selling high on Sharangovich, but hope for a better return with an actual Centre, so the Trades to CAR for Kotkaniemi + 1st + ??? are far more appealing to me. I bet Soderblom isn’t any better than Klapka, so that seems redundant to me. I don’t mind bringing Holl on as another Big Physical Penalty Killing 3RD, but we should be compensated additionally for doing so

Keep Mang and look to move him at the deadline. I’m hoping he has another great contract season and really improves his value, since we likely won’t get what you’re asking for him right now

I just don’t see FLA being interested, but I like your mindset around that one

If you’re trying to open up a spot for Coronato, move Mangiapane to RW:

Kuzmenko-Kadri-Pospisil/Mang
Huberdeau-Zary-Mangiapane/Pospisil
Coleman/Coronato-Backlund-Coronato/Coleman
Pelletier-Kotkaniemi/Mason Appleton-Schwindt/Klapka
x-Rooney, Duehr or Morton

Hard to see the Sabres trading for a rental
They’ll likely want someone with more years left on his deal

That’s fair and kind of the consensus on this post. What do you think about Coleman? Similar style, lower cap hit, I love him in Calgary but would be a really effective piece on a team looking to push. Maybe a little old

It’s close. I think if it was Holl, Fabbri, 15OA, I’m fully in.

Coleman is interesting, but i think it would be a tough deal to work out in real life
Obviously we are trying to win now, and he’s a good player that could help us, but he’s also not the missing piece that puts us In the playoffs for sure.
So it would depend on the price
And the problem there is that u guys will want value back for his 30goal season last year, while we are more likely to look more at his career & wanna pay based on that bigger sample size of his work.
Plus, like u said, he’s a bit old for us
