Korpisalo is the backup. They likely take the risk Bussi goes down to Providence unless he plays well and then they just keep him as the 23rd.

Curious what the $2m incremental buys in FA

Can’t see Brazeau not being the 4th line RW. My assumption is Kastelic is the 4C and Beecher plays LW.

mystified.

I think it was an over estimate on Ullmarks value (partially because hes a 5mil expiring UFA), and also because the market place for a goalie isn;t huge, but its a very poor return.

Once NJD gave up a 1st and a meh 23 yr old dman for Markstrom, it set the market but also removed one of the buyers.

Theres only maybe TOR left who are looking for a number one goalie now. And certainly the market with maybe just the best of the lot: Sarrros, is small.

Should BOS have gotten more? Sure. Kastelic and a late in the round 1st (in a fairly weak draft) is underwhelming, but then adding a 3mil backup (when the aim was to move a 5mil backup?) seems a poor return.

Have not been a "fire sweeney" guy but that is an atrocious return.

Most people would have been fine with the 25th overall and Kastelic, but adding FOUR YEARS of a $3mil backup and only gaining $2mil in cap is unbelievable. I would have rather let Ullmark walk for nothing.

Maybe they think they can up Korpo's value and flip him? Even then you're going to pay someone to retain I'm sure.

Just overall terrible work on the trade front after a few years of good deals.

I could see beecher move up to the third line to take the draws. I hope they dont push him to the LW because man we dont have a lot of guys who can take draws. Kastelic is +1, now we have 4.

Curious to see what they do with Beecher. Wouldn’t be shocked if he was traded.

Poitras has more ability long term and his development is important.

I just saw a trade someone made they moved beecher and the 2nd next year for mario ferraro, I like it, I don't know if the value is realistic but I'm a fan

pretty sure bussi will need waivers to go to providence where he for sure gets claimed

If he plays well, he’s the 23rd man on the roster

If he doesn’t, they may take the risk.

he will 100% be claimed if they do which would be stupid , teams don't carry 3 goalies

Some do. If they feel it is 100% he will be claimed, they will.

They just spent the past two years dealing with a. 22 man roster. Carrying a third goalie is easy with a 23 man roster.

People have short term memories and unrealistic expectations.

First - remember getting Taylor Hall for nothing because we were the only team they could talk to? Same situation here due to his NTC. When NJ went off the board it left one team not on his NTC in the goalie market. Detroit, who would not trade for him unless he agreed to an extension on their terms, not his. They also would have made us take Husso back. They were likely only talking to Ottawa at this point.

Second - people overvalued Ullmark's worth from the get go. The Garrioch stupidity did not help. I said all along 1st/3rd. Under the circumstances they getting the 1st was an achievement.

Taking back Korpi was something I thought could happen. It’s better than full Forsberg as at least there is a chance of getting something for him. I would have liked it better at 2.5 and/or another piece added for taking him. But it’s where we are. They could flip him for nothing before the season to free up extra cap space. Or they could let goalie coach Bob do his thing, build up his value putting up solid numbers as the backup as one does playing for Boston then trade him for some value. Remember Halak was terrible for a couple years playing behind porous Isles D. Look what he did in Boston.

I get it. The return is underwhelming, taking Korpi back was certainly not ideal and on paper devalues the trade and does not give them the cap space they were looking for. That first is at the bottom of a weak draft and unlikely to pull anything more than 3rd liner. All true. But let’s see how it plays out before we pass judgement. Might surprise us. They did the best they could under the circumstances.
