Description

What needs to reasonably change on either side for this to get done?

Buffalo could hope that Calgary finishes 11th from the bottom in the overall standings next year and they get pick #11 in 2025 (otherwise it will likely be the Florida 2025 pick, which is not horrible, considering they might not be as strong next year after they lose some free agents after this season).

Montreal drafts Lindstrom (#5) and one of Eiserman, Catton, Sennecke or Iginla at #10.

I don't see why Montreal is giving up 3 got assets here. Even to move up in the draft.

I don't see how Sabres could turn that down. Carrying so much "dead" cap. for three years is iffy for Habs, though maybe they can afford it. Gee Anderson and Gallagher still have three years.

You could be right.

Maybe one way around that is if Montreal tells Skinner that they will trade him (with retained salary by the Habs) to one of the destinations he would like to go if he accepts starting the season in Montreal. He is still a 25 to 35 goal scorer and if Montreal tried to trade a player like that at $4,5M I am sure there would be contending teams that are interested in him at that rate.

Can always have a third team involved to broker the trade and now you get it down to 2.25

That would cost a lot of assets. The only way out is a buyout a trade is almost impossible.

We aren’t planning on moving him (in a trade)
We’ve got plenty of Cap space, so we aren’t gonna pay to dump his contract

If we want him off the team, we can buy him out
Why would we give up the 11th pick, when we can get rid of him for free?
That just wouldn’t make sense dude
