That's going to be too steep. Merlzlikins isn't worth that even with the retention. Especially considering they are likely buying him out anyway. Wings could move out Husso for less in draft capital and sign Elvis for less.

All good. I think that is pretty fair value, and seems to fit the competitive timeline better if the Flames are re-tooling. But, to each their own.

Fair enough. I just think his age means he's a part of their future. I know they have a lot less value but the Flames would rather trade Coleman or Mangiapane.

I'd be moving them too, but I also don't like "rebuilds on the fly". I prefer to tear down to the studs over half measures. Personally, if I don't plan on competing for a few years, I'd rather move a 26 year old for pieces that will be hitting their prime when I plan to be. If it's 2-3 years out, he is coming up on 30 as you are hitting your window.

Im doubting they are considering a buyout. I think with our strong prospect pool, we would rather pay someone to take the full contract by attaching a pick over retaining this much or buying him out. Im still hopeful that some team will bite and take Elvis' full contract or at least minimal retained salary. A 4th is just not enough compensation to retain that much.

The buyout consideration has actually largely gone away given Waddell's latest comments to Seravalli.

Yegor put up 60 points but was -29? How does that even happen. Calgary wasn't that bad were they? I would probably be ok with that trade from Detroits side of things. All depends on his contract ask. If Detroit could lock him up in the 7-7.5 range I would be fine with it.

I don't think his contract ask would be that high. There are some definite defensive deficiencies to his game, which is why I think he ends up on the wing long-term. If he gets a new contract prior to the season, it's probably in the 6s.
