I like the premise; JT @ 50% retention would be great value. Avs would have to pay for retention, so not sure what the return would be for the Leafs 🤔. Still highly doubt he would waive, but Avs would be one of the few teams he might consider ?

The bigger question though is what happens when Nichushkin's suspension is up mid-season? You can't accrue cap space with LTIR and you can't keep him on LTIR once the suspension is up.

Why would the Avs give up a first rounder and 5.5 M in cap for a 2C type guy that they already have in Mitts? Also Tavares is well on the wrong side of 30. I've seen a few people propose Tavares trades and they make no sense to me.
