Shortsighted and stupid? As opposed to living in denial about the Devils goaltending situation and opting for naive and stupid moves in order to fix the issue?
NJ has missed the playoffs 2 out of 3 years due to horrific goaltending, and you'd rather hold onto a lottery ticket that likely won't benefit you for at least 2-3yrs (if you're lucky), instead of using it to bring in a proven Vezina winning goalie who would immediately solve your biggest issue. Sorry, but at this stage of the Devils development I don't care about trading a top 10 pick for a proven player.
Also, the Bruins are in no obligation to trade Ullmark within the conference, and it's entirely possible a team like LA offers a strong package to bring in a guy like Ullmark especially since they can extend him.
Shortsighted and stupid yes.
"I don't care about a top 10 pick" is incredibly shortsighted.
NJD is one of the youngest teams in hockey.
What is LAK offering that requires us to offer a top 10 pick to match?
Would Ullmark immediately solve your goaltending?
Of the top 20 goalies in GSAx in 22-23, just 6 finished in the top 30 in 23-24.
If you would have bought: Sorokin, Vasy, Gustaffsson, Oettinger, Saros last offseason, you'd have been convinced goaltending was solved. And you'd have been wrong
