Description
I had an epiphany earlier today that would be a great move for the caps with Oshie's future in the air and him most likely retiring. Why not sign Kane to the same cap hit and a slightly longer term than Oshie's contract if he LTIRetires?! Kane would surely accept given that his market value is far below what the contract offers and there's term involved with my proposed contract. Kane has also been a far more productive player than Oshie throughout his entire career including now so he would be a big upgrade on Osh(sorry) and he would be able to play at the top of the lineup. The rest is just brainstorming.

what more problems does it create? Idk a whole lot about either of your guys teams, but you guys get a haul for a guy you realistically can't pay for

That haul being a guy with 2c potential who you can sign to a short cheap bridge deal, and dowd who can still play 3c. and not to mention a first round pick lol

we can pay for middelstadt. The Avs would not have traded for him if this was not the case.

2C is among the hardest positions to acquire if you don't have a good one in your system. The Avs have struggled at it for 2 years until Mitts showed up. They aren't going to spend another second on "maybe this player can do it". Avs don't have time for "potential".

It doesn't matter if a deal is "fair" or not. We can create "fair" deals for Matthews, McDavid and Mackinnon on this site. But that doesn't mean teams should accept them.

McMichael likely becomes a 2C in the next year or so but
Regardless, Middlestadt probably commands ~ 7m this off season, therefore you will have like 1m to spend on like 5 different roster spots, with Landescog trying to come back, you will have to move at least 1-2 players just to be able to sign others to league min to fill out a roster. Having a 6-7m 2c on the avs right now is just simply not realistic

I would recommend visiting any avs ACGM lol

if he commands 7, he commands 7. We're talking $1mil difference probably from his high end to low end.

I say even if we do sign another RD, that resource is so depleted just try him out. If he doesn't work out he's gone in next off-season. We have the cap (which Grier says he's no going to break the bank with) and he's not expensive.

Yeah, every avs ACGM has Nuk and Cog on the LTIR, where in a few months they both could be off of it and you would be like 15m over the cap lol

Or it has an unrealistic signing of Middlestadt with unrealistic cap dumps lol

then you trade players to get under the cap. I don't really see what the issue is here. The avs were going to sign Mitts before the Nuke stuff. why would they not do that now haha

The avs had other 2C trade options at the deadline. unless you think Chris MacFarland and Joe Sakic are idiots, idk why you'd think anything other than "yeah, they're going to re-sign this guy obviously"

you are the first person I've come across on the internet that thinks that haha

I really wanna know why you think Mitts is a $7m player when the last RFA center with 2C potential that got that deal absolutely cratered. It's going to be a bridge deal bc the Avs can do that and no one in this league offer sheets anyone

This trade makes no sense because the avs don't have time or business for 'what if's. Picks don't play

How can they Bridge Mitts? You bridge him into UFA. 7m is just the market for a player of Mitts caliber, simple as that

I literally have no idea how you think this trade makes no sense, the avs are in such a cap crunch, and they get back a 1st, and a guy who is great young Center.

A first rounder absolutely has value to anyone, even a team trying to contend now

The 'great young center' profiles has not proven himself as a 2C yet. his numbers just aren't there yet. 30ish points in an 80 game season is not the kind of bet the avs can take

The chances of both Nuke & Landy coming back are basically zero. Landy still has a long way to go. Nuke has to stay clean. The Avs will pursue trades for as soon as they can anyway.

The Avs would bridge Mitts into UFA bc that's what they'd have to do tbh. Stagger the Mikko, Makar, and Mitts extensions and hope that it works out. They have a prospect in Ritchie that is just as likely to be a 2C as McMichael that could...just take over for Mitts when that comes up anyway.

If the Avs could pick up RoR or Chandler for a reasonable cap hit, I would take this. Need to have some sort of deal in place before this could be made.

If I were GMCM I'm taking this for the Avs. Short term it's a downgrade at 2C, a solid 4C, a 1st and a third next year or to use at the TDL. Long term it's a probably solid 2C, a good young player to come in and a third.

Replaces Middlestadt with another second line center with a higher ceiling who's younger, cheaper and already signed to a long term deal along with a really good depth center who brings defense(a team need) along with 2 valuable draft picks including the 17th overall pick????? It solves everything lol. It gives them a chance to replenish their prospect pool while replacing what is lost with valuable players.

McMichael is a 2c on a team with not very productive players around him. His skill is buried by the company around him. The only 2 productive forwards on the team are either a center(strome) who McMichael can't play with due to positions and Ovi who sucked for the first 65% of the year.

that's all cool. i like McMichael and I think he has 2C potential on a contender. I don't see them moving away from their 2C for potential.

prospect pools do not help Mackinnon and makar win cups now. i don't know how else to say this.

McMichael might be better than Mittelstadt and I hope he is for you. Is he going to be better next year? the year after? which year exactly. do you know?
