Description
I had an epiphany earlier today that would be a great move for the caps with Oshie's future in the air and him most likely retiring. Why not sign Kane to the same cap hit and a slightly longer term than Oshie's contract if he LTIRetires?! Kane would surely accept given that his market value is far below what the contract offers and there's term involved with my proposed contract. Kane has also been a far more productive player than Oshie throughout his entire career including now so he would be a big upgrade on Osh(sorry) and he would be able to play at the top of the lineup. The rest is just brainstorming.

prospect pools do not help Mackinnon and makar win cups now. i don't know how else to say this.

McMichael might be better than Mittelstadt and I hope he is for you. Is he going to be better next year? the year after? which year exactly. do you know?

It's not really about whether he is or isn't better thats why Dowd(who's much more valuable around the league than fans think) and the 1st(17th ovr)+3rd were added. The Avs also can afford McMichael so even if he isn't better, the Avs will save 3mil+ by trading Mittelstadt to spend on UFA's and depth pieces that will help 29+8 win the cup now.

Nic Dowd is great, I wanted him for sure last year, but he's also a 4C on the Avs, and that's a much easier position to replace, trade for, call up, etc. The WAR there is easier to find or replace than 2C than if McMichael doesn't work out which, at least for a year, could be likely.

I'm not saying this isn't a good trade value. It is! It's really good value. Just not to the Avs.

Replaces Middlestadt with another second line center with a higher ceiling who's younger, cheaper and already signed to a long term deal along with a really good depth center who brings defense(a team need) along with 2 valuable draft picks including the 17th overall pick????? It solves everything lol. It gives them a chance to replenish their prospect pool while replacing what is lost with valuable players.

The Mittelstadt deal doesn't make sense for either team.
    1. Mittelstadt solves the Avs 2C problem here and now - he'll be signed either to a 2-4yr bridge deal for 5-6mill or long term 6-8yr for around 7 mil, the later scenario if Landy or Choo is not a part of the budget.
    2. If McMichael is basically a year or two from being as good as Mittelstadt, why trade him?
    3. If retooling to contend, you don't trade one away a cost effective 4C for nothing.
