1. We're not trading for Mitch Marner while simultaneously sending his center back the other way.
2. We're not paying for Marner before July 1, so forget about any 2024 draft picks.
3. We're not trading our Hagens sweeps ticket for Marner.
We're a small-market team being constructed on a from-the-ground-up basis -- exactly the opposite of Toronto. You guys have proven conclusively over the past 6 seasons that concentrating 61.7% of the permissible cap in 5 players and surrounding them with minions and spear-carriers is an unworkable approach to building a winning team. Our core, instead of 5 prohibitively high big-ticket players, is Zegras and Gauthier at LW, Carlsson and McTavish at C, Terry at RW, Mintyukov and Zellweger at LD, Dostal at G, and whoever we draft with our first-round selections in 2024 and 2025, all of whom will aggregate less than 24% of the allowable cap space. We're not interested in Mitch Marner unless he can be added to that nucleus without subtracting from it. If you think that whatever we have left is an insufficient return for one season of Mitch Marner, fine, please look elsewhere.
