The entire basis of the hypothetical is that Leon is rumored to want to play in BOS so it can be safely presumed that any trade to BOS would include an extension. If we're not building off that assumption then there are likely plenty of other offers that'd beat this one handily.
and we have SO much evidence that an extension doesn't impact the trade value tremendously.
That's what every fan of a selling team says on here. "extension in place so we'll get their top two prospects!" never happens. All the hanifin to boston mocks. Lohrei, Poitras, and a first....but extension in place though. Nope. not a thing.
But sometime they do work out the extension quick enough that you know they talked about it prior. Does it impact the value? Meh, not much.
Mark Stone? signed on the flight over. 2nd round pick and a prospect for one of the best players in the league.
Lindholm got his extension within 24 hours i believe. that probably bumped a pick going to anaheim from a 3rd to a 2nd.
One year left is one year left. Draisaitl is a premier player, so he'll be at the very top of range of return for expiring contracts, but it isn't going to be bonkers. I would look at what Erik Karlsson got. It should be similar. No high end roster players. Probably not the teams best prospect, and a whole bunch of futures.
