You would think that if Tampa wanted a Dman, they could have got one, just as good UFA cheaper than 6.5m and not give up any picks.
That's getting to a real expensive defence for Tampa, and not necessarily THAT good.
Seems like Tampa has really mismanaged their cap....and draft picks recently.
Could also be Hedman... His contract's up and TBL has 2 top LDs signed through 26-27
Doubt it's Heddy. Without him they only have 3 top 4 Dmen. Handedness hasn't mattered in Tampa in years. Sergy is really good on the right side. A top 4 of Mac, Sergy, Cernak and Heddy is formidable. They can Protect Lilliberg Crozier as they develop.

Both also have a 16 team M-NTC though... You sure GMs won't try to take advantage of that?

But again, why would GMs pay assets for either of those 2 when they know TBL wants to sign Stammer? Why wouldn't they ask for compensation?

Because there is this thing called competition if 3-5 GMs want him the price goes up DUH are you really that simple you can't understand such a basic concept? I'm not saying they recoup most of those assets but so.eone will give a small something for Jeannot if you don't think so you're wrong. I suspect they've talked with Stamkos enough that they're confident they can sign him. They'll probably give him a longer term than they should at his age and guarantee he'll be a Lightning for life in return for a lower AAV. Maybe Stamkos wanted McDonagh back, and he's agreed to take a big pay cut so they can afford to bring him back.
Or maybe it's the opposite. Maybe the talks with Stamkos haven't gone well and they've given up trying to sign him, so they know they'll have cap space to bring McDonagh back.

Maybe... But 5 mill in cap space with 2 more players needing to be signed would mean Stammer would have to take a major discount to have a slightly worse team than TBL's last game against FLO
