Description
I'd like to do more, but I have a hard time figuring out a way to move Laine. How is one supposed to value a guy with that goal scoring ability but little else?

  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2025 (NSH)
Détails additionnels:
CBJ moves on from Boqvist as Jiricek is likely to take over any opportunities for offensive deployment. May be able to return a prospect alongside the pick.
NSH
  1. Boqvist, Adam
Détails additionnels:
With Barrie and perhaps Carrier moving on as UFAs, NSH takes a chance on a young dynamic RD to slot in between Fabbro & Schenn on the depth chart. Gives time for Ufko to develop.

CBJ
  1. Choix de 5e ronde en 2024 (FLA)
Détails additionnels:
CBJ has little reason to re-sign Bean so they take the chance to get something for his rights.
FLA
  1. Bean, Jake [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
FLA seems to do well with incorporating young, offensive LD into their system and Bean could use another opportunity.

Pretty solid. I would just switch Sillinger and Jenner.

I think they absolutely have to add a vet dman like Tinordi on a one year deal this year to support the young guys and provide some depth.

My one (or two) wish(es) would be finding an upgrade for Laine and/or Merzlikins.

I like these…CBJ are at a weird place with the rebuild. A roster full of mostly young guys who just need the development and opportunity. Not really a lot of worthwhile vets who can be moved. Provorov will get moved, Laine as well (assuming he comes back healthy and can get back to the PPG player he showed flashes of), and I could see an Elvis buy-out either this off-season or next.

The G situation will need another year since Greaves is still waivers exempt, and has looked great in the AHL and limited NHL time (considering the team in front of him). Maybe Ivanov ends up being the real deal (he’s been a stud in the KHL), but he’s still best-case a few years away.

My only issue is the Marchy and Chinny contracts. I’d like to see M’s longer, and C’s shorter. He had a great breakout-season, but still had some injury problems, and I’d want to see him replicate it.

Okay, thanks for the input! I decided to keep Merzi because I figured there wasn't a huge press to solve the problem this year and, since I don't really see a great candidate to swap with (apart from maybe Husso in Detroit), I figured it wise to leave it until next year. I feel similarly about Laine.

As for the Marchinny contracts, I can see what you mean, but I think they're well positioned to gamble a bit on Chinakhov. If you were to adjust them, would you think something like 4 * 3 for Chinakhov and 5.5 * 5 for Marchenko? Or would your aim to go long-term for Marchenko even if it costs upwards of 7mil?

Unless Jiricek works on his skating and improves a lot during the off-season I do not see how he will be on the first pairing and he may not even make the team IMO. So signing a vet RD for 1 year may help or keeping Boqvist and when he gets injured you can call up Jiricek.

I think Merzlikins' relationship with the team is too far deteriorated to keep him around next year, but if there's no trade partner, he's a prime buyout candidate. It's more a pressing need in my eyes than most, probably.

I'd absolutely lock up Marchenko for a 6x$7M if that's what it took, he should absolutely grow into that and could become a 40-goal scorer. Chinakhov needs more regular playing time in the top-6 before we do anything more than a bridge.

Overall, I think you've done some tidy work, the values look pretty good and the lines look realistic (though I'd also swap Silly and Jenner, as well as Jiricek and Severson for now).

As for Laine: he probably gets a chance to rebound next season with Columbus, and could be traded if he starts to look like the player he has been with us (nearly ppg). If he is traded this season, though, I'd imagine it's for a decent package (like 2nd, 3rd, plus good prospect) with some heavy conditions on picks that could upgrade it to an elite package (like upgrading to a 1st if he plays 40 games, 3rd to a 2nd if he scores 20 goals, etc). Something that puts most of the risk on the acquiring team, since we don't have any pressure to move him.
