Toronto will eat this alive. I'm torn on the Rossi trade. I would like a different type of player. I'll be honest, I haven't followed Holtz after the Fiala drama between fan bases on here. I know he was very promising but seems to have fallen off. I could be completely wrong. I like moving on from Spurgeon not sure who would want him and what the return would be. I would like to get younger and big in his spot. I like who you've targeted to trade tho. Also that Peart is on the bottom pairing. I would also like to see that

For Toronto - I'm fine with that. As long as they see that this is pretty much what Minnesota has to offer them. They could absolutely get something better from someone else.

I'm not sure who would want Spurgeon either. I do know that he drops to a m-NTC this summer, so hopefully we can work some magic and get some size and skill on defense.

It's not Rossi for Holtz as a base. It's more like Rossi for Marino and Gustavsson for Holtz.

2C for 2nd pairing dman is pretty in line with value. I agree that Rossi has more value than Marino, but I also don't think Devils fans would be too excited for a Gus<>Holtz swap. Who do you have as the target for trading Rossi?

I just don't value Holtz all that much.

I mostly just wouldn't trade Rossi unless there's some type of forward upgrade or similar player coming back. Knies is one guy I'd do it for. Obviously the Cutter Gauthier talks would have been good with me. There's plenty of other young guys or prospects, but Holtz is currently worse and doesn't project to be better, as a winger. Marino is what he is at this point, an inconsistent 2nd pair guy. Neither of those pieces excite me more than Rossi and I'd be looking for someone that excites me as much or more than Rossi does.

For the record, I understand why people like Holtz and are drawn to him as a target, he's just not for me. I might be trying to put together a list (thread) of my ideal Rossi targets, but I don't want to commit to that yet.

Why?

I doubt Knies would be available and if he was, why would Toronto target Rossi? They've got Matthews and Tavares at center.

Curious what you think of Rossi for Kent Johnson or Marchenko or Sillinger.

Yeah I don't think Leafs would do that either.

I would be good with any of those Columbus 3

I've been trying to do that in my Mock trades. Targeting guys for us down the road. We certainly don't have to move Rossi. If we aren't going to get fair value for him I would keep him here then. I do understand Yurov may be the 1C we all want. I think Knies or Cutter would have been fun trades. I will admit, I don't see why the hype with Heidt is more than what it was with Rossi. I didn't watch his games either so I may be missing something. Heidt was a lower pick but the point production and size are similar to Rossi. Is it because he is younger and his ELC is just kicking in. Thats another reason we give up on Rossi?

I think the reason they would be willing to trade Rossi is for a similar skill player that is bigger or if they are big fish hunting. I don't think Heidt has anything to do with that as I see him starting at wing in the NHL. Yurov is the long term solution at center in the top 6. He's got good height and skill, but another year of bulking up will do him well. He weighs an extremely light 172lb (reference: Rossi weighs 182lb).

Guerin is pressing to find size for the lineup. We are team of midgets and get bullied a decent amount.

I don't know that the hype is more for Heidt than it was for Rossi at the draft and shortly after, but at this point it comes down to a few things

1) Rossi's career has been mildly disappointing so far, mostly because of the injury stuff, also because his first 20 games with the Wild weren't good
2) Heidt previously had a lot of hype himself, he was seen as a potential 1st round pick and at one point he was considered for exceptional status in the CHL (didn't get it)
3) Heidt was scoring at 2ppg for a lot of the season, which is just a ridiculous pace for someone his age in the WHL
4) Personally when I watch him I see a very smart and highly creative setup man
5) Heidt is the shiny new toy, Rossi is kinda old hat at this point

I don't think it's necessarily true that Heidi has a higher upside, but I don't think it's necessarily false at this point either

Part of why I think it's imperative that we trade Rossi for a guy of a similar caliber is because I think it's pretty early to trade Rossi in general, even if Yurov comes over and knocks it out of the park, there's room for both in the offense. Rossi is probably still the fourth most skilled offensive player behind Kaprizov, Boldy and Yurov, and moving him for anything less than the fourth (or higher) most skilled offensive player would be a mistake.

Guys like Ohgren and Khusnutdinov are fine depth pieces, but if this team wants to win, that's the role they need to be in, not playing top of the lineup like Hartman has been.

5v5…pts per 60

Holtz 1.87
Rossi 1.73

If Rossi is going to end up on the wing, we would probably be looking at it as a lateral move. Holtz has another year on ELC, so there is no reason to move him unless it returns an improvement elsewhere in the lineup. And with a new coach coming in, chances are he won’t be buried on 4th line getting 9-10 minutes a night.

Marino has a NTC arriving July 1st….which would be the only argument for moving him before we have a replacement ready. Last year, after losing Severson and Graves in off-season, we lost Siegenthaler and Hamilton to injury…and we got really exposed on blueline. Want to avoid that again.
