with Tre trading history we dont want him to trade Marner

Description
He also has a habbit of trading 3rd Rd picks to get goalies, so expect maybe a trade for a new goalie rather than UFA.

Ferlands career ended a season and a half after the trade and fox wasn't going to sign. Hanifan and Lindholm were a huge part of the team for 6 years. And the Tkachuk trade was a haul, unfortunately huberdeau fell off a cliff after arriving.

If Huberdeau had played at even a point per game pace that trade would have been a win too. Weegars been great.

My point exactly, with a 1 yr deal before UFA player (Tkachuck) Tre trades him for overpaid 2 twilight of their prime players which he resigned for too many years.

Imagine how crazy Leaf fans would get if Marner got traded for Rakell and Graves and a 1st. lol

Wait. Are you comparing Graves and Rackell to Huberdeau and Weegar?

Wow that's quite the comparison, huberdeau has at least got a 100 point season. Would resigning Marner be a mistake? He must be a twighlight player since he's only a year younger then huberdeau was at the time.

    huh>?

It was easy to forecast the Huberdeau contract was bad. Signing Marner to a 8 year extension will not follow that same path.

Probably what trade Tre gets if he moves Marner.

    Garbage.

How can you say that? Who in the world was predicting the biggest point drop off in the history of the NHL? If Tre can get a similar return to either of those trades for Marner leafs fans will be extatic.

    Graves and Rackell are garbage.

Huberdeau was probably the most overrated player in the league at the time, but I don't blame Tre for acquiring him in the trade. On the other hand, Weegar was probably the most underrated player in the league and is still an elite top-pairing defenceman.

Can't find where, but people that are much smarter than the average hockey fan do exist. JackHan on twitter (former Leafs development coach) actually made a pretty in-depth and insightful post about why Huberdeau was the most overrated player in the league at the time and was due for that kind of drop-off.

No sense in making up hypothetical trades and criticizing Treliving for them. If you look at his track record of big trades he does pretty well. I think if the Leafs decide to move on from Marner Treliving will bring back a few quality pieces along with the extra cap space.

Even prior to that 100-pt season for production since 2017-18 to 2020-21, he was in the top 20 in the league for production, 15 if you just look at the 3-seasons prior to the 115 point season in 21-22. Just a really sad case, hopefully he can turn it around but I think he needs to be back in a hot climate city in the States.

I'd be interested to read that, because I sure didn't see it coming. He was over a point per game for 3 seasons before that huge season. I figured he was the one driving play on the 2nd line with Bennett and Duclair. I wasn't a fan of the signings, I figured we were going to flip them both at the deadline and get 3 1st round picks for Tkachuk.

If I go by the Tkachuck trade. Using the Cats again, Marner (sign and trade) plus a pick for Verhaeghe and Ekblad and a pick.

All 3 players are set to be UFA just like the Tkachuck for Huberdeau and Weegar trade.

I majorly disagree here tbh. If Hamilton doesn't break his leg in 2019-2020, he wins the Norris imo and then this looks lopsided the other way. All in all, probably an even trade

This was his piece half-way through the 22-23 season (his first season with CGY). However, I can recall him tweeting about questions in his game upon the day of the trade. Unfortantely I cannot find those Tweets so you'll have to take my word for it haha.

As long as you don't expand the trade tree I'd say it was fair trade. Calgarys got 4 picks (2 1sts) a couple roster players and a pretty good prospect resulting from it though. Not sure who you guys ended up getting with NYs picks though.
