    The question is, does Toronto?
    TOR
      Acquire Tavares
      2.
      SJS
Tavares costs an AAV of 11 and would be a major relief for Toronto. Fans and media want the team to move on from loyalty and become a winner.

I’ve heard the term a ruthless winner like Vegas. Winning at all costs and moving Tavares is more ideal then trading Marner for now for the Leafs.
        TOR
        3.
        SJS
        TOR
          What does this cost?

Marleau cost a 1st and his AAV was 6m.
Tavares at 11 should equal the same.

San Jose also wants to have more veterans help mentor their youth. This could be a beneficial relationship for both Toronto and San Jose
          4.
          SJS
However Toronto is not going to pay a first for another dump.

            Here’s what I propose.
            TOR
San Jose, I expect wants to trade up using their Pens pick.

So collecting a prospect and 2nd will satisfy Griers needs.
              5.
              SJS
                “Yap yap yap NMC”
I believe with Tavares previous bid with San Jose, and some throughout conversations with Tavares, he could waive.
The Leafs will be “politely demanding” the waive.
I don’t see the odds of him waiving lower than like 35%.
                TOR
Now Toronto does not have a 2nd. So how does this work?
                  6.

                  Détails additionnels:
Topi is a 3rd round pick whose raised his stock to easily near/ at a seconds value..

Does Grier take this? Does Toronto offer this?

Sens don’t need more quantity in their prospect pool. They have 2 1sts and an early 2nd . As well as can move Chychrun and Brannstrom for more futures if they wanted.

There gonna take Parekh or Iginla

I don’t rly see the need tbh ig without couture it would make sense for him to mentor, but it’s not like we make the playoffs next szn and if we want to move him at the deadline we need a third party team to eat salary

Might be misunderstanding how the buyout for JT works, but believe there is no incentive for Toronto to dump assets to offload him. A buyout would basically be a wash on the cap for the Leafs. So they would just do that. Then whoever wants him can sign him for less. Better for both teams.

Leafs pass, he’s still a 65-70 point player. Is he worth 11 million? No. Is he useless and a player you NEED to trade away with assets? Also no

Why does San Jose even think this way?
We want a mentor and a good voice for another year of development for the kids, and for many their first year. Johns a solid veteran. We aren’t trading for him to trade him or be a playoff team, and Couture is a non factor right now.

Don’t necessarily disagree but I also foresee the Sens considering a OFD isn’t the most important piece. They can get potentially someone nearly just as good at 13. Iginla could also be at 13 in some world.

Then you also get nearly a late first with the devils pick. I picked the Sens because it’s plausible, not likely but worth playing around with.

Utah won’t move down unless they get a star imo.

Might be misunderstanding how the buyout for JT works, but believe there is no incentive for Toronto to dump assets to offload him. A buyout would basically be a wash on the cap for the Leafs. So they would just do that. Then whoever wants him can sign him for less. Better for both teams.

Toronto gains less than 1mil in cap savings… buying him it is the definition of pointless.

Leafs pass, he’s still a 65-70 point player. Is he worth 11 million? No. Is he useless and a player you NEED to trade away with assets? Also no

The point in the Leafs wanting to move JT or Marner is to better utilize their cap. We’ve concluded this Leaf’s study. You’ve seen the ending.

The point of trading JT (Karlsson after 100points, a Norris, cementing his HOF status - only returned a first, and San Jose had to retain and eat Hoffmans dead weight contract + take on 5m x 2 years of Granlund (PIT considered that a dump too)…)

So JT at 11m will not give the leafs a postive value trade. It will be a dump situation plain and simple.

The goal is to let the Leafs sign:
                  UFA TOP4 D Man
                  UFA TOP Goalie
                  UFA Top Depth Player
+ more like keeping Domi and also Bertuzzi
+ still having money to spend.
                  + You keep Marner

The goal is addition by subtraction

Why does San Jose even think this way?
We want a mentor and a good voice for another year of development for the kids, and for many their first year. Johns a solid veteran. We aren’t trading for him to trade him and Couture is a non factor right now.

I think you misunderstood what I said, if we don't have Couture, I say go for it, but I just doubt it happens

                  Coutures comments aren’t exactly encouraging.

I want the dude to live a normal life outside hockey. And he’s got an injury that will never just go away. He said he thought about giving up last year and he said in the exits he wants to live a life outside hockey. I don’t see any signs to “believe” he’s going be a player next year. He could play a few games but I don’t want him to rehab/ train all summer - aggravate his injury - rehab / train again. For now I’m going to hope he can enjoy life with his family and see if he overcomes this.

Additionally even if Couture “plans to play” this needs to happen on / around draft day to make more sense.

We won’t have any true answers by then. But the Sharks having both Couture and Tavares in their middle-bottom 6 is a benefit not a problem for SJS. They’ll just both even help more with teaching the young team.

Haha yup. If only we navigated the [ Kane/ Pavelski ] + EK65 Saga better.

                  Sanderson-Parekh would be so good

Sens don’t need more quantity in their prospect pool. They have 2 1sts and an early 2nd . As well as can move Chychrun and Brannstrom for more futures if they wanted.

There gonna take Parekh or Iginla

I agree but there is one scenario where I would consider this trade down. And that scenario is all 6 of these guys off the board, which is extremely unlikely as one of Silayev, Eiserman, Buium or someone else is likely to go high.

                  -Celebrini
                  -Demidov
                  -Levshunov
                  -Lindstrom
                  -Parekh
                  -Iginla

Then I would probably make this trade and move down knowing that 7-13 will likely be a bunch of LD's and we would be able to snag one of Catton, Helenius, Yakemchuk, Dickinson, or MBN
