Complementary top 6 wingers can be added via trade (Lehkonen/Hagel), drafting top 10 you should draft potential star players (McDavid/MacKinnon/Rantanen/Makar/Draisaitl,etc.).
I mean, I don't fully disagree, but it's worth mentioning that the players you listed here are former #1, #1, #10, #4, and #3 overall picks. Rantanen is kind of the exception to the rule there - you can easily point to guys like Scott Glennie, Dylan McIlrath, Zach Hamill, Nikita Filatov, Olli Juoelvi, Lias Andersson, Michael Dal Colle, Griffin Reinhart, Vitali Kravstov, and so on as guys drafted in that #4-10OA range that completely flamed out.
I mean, hell, if you wanna do the "redraft" gimmick for the names you mentioned, it's worth mentioning that Hyman is 10th overall in goals scored for his draft class and Lehkonen is 25th overall in his class for overall scoring - you could make a strong argument that if you go back in time and draft those years all over again with the knowledge of how they've both turned out that both guys would be borderline lottery picks at worst. I get what you're saying about the type of player you want to get with a lottery pick, but the truth is anything outside the top 2/3 picks has a pretty decent chance into turning into nothing.
