Description
The timing of Chesley would be perfect! He would take over the #3 RHD spot from Bogosian in 2 years and Spurgeon’s #2 role a year later.

I like Chesley but Caps accept, Rossi is the exact type of guy I think they will be targeting this summer

I kind of made my trade on the fly - what would you consider an equitable swap with Rossi and Chesley as the centerpieces?

I changed the trade.

Newhook is Rossi's closest comp and he went for 31st + 37th + Fairbrother (77th in 2019).

Chesley went 37th, so you're roughly looking at the Caps coming up with 31st + 77th in value to makeup the diff. Obviously other factors at play, but that's the napkin math.

I think it's one of those that is very tough to judge because they both are the kind of guys that could be evaluated wildly different throughout the league. At first glance, Rossi scored .5ppg as a 22yo and has a great draft pedigree. From my read on it though, MIN fans weren't that happy with him/don't think he'll fit in with their salary structure? He did play a ton with Kaprizov and Boldy so I can understand wanting more from whoever is in that spot. Injury/health history is obviously a concern too but at the same time he played all 82 this year?

I think Caps would value Chesley as right around where they took him -- late first or early second. He's not a scorer, but has been incredibly solid through two years of NCAA and had a good WJC where he was heavily relied on. Basically developed at exactly the pace and the ways you would hope. Not lagging behind, but not blowing expectations away either.

The "value" here of I would say ~32oa (Chesley) + ~55oa (VGK 2nd) + ~50oa (Caps 2nd, discounted one year) is sneakily a pretty sizable package, but at the same time it is a quantity over real quality type offer. I would also say that Rossi is one of the guys I would be willing to move 17oa for in this draft, and that 17oa + Chesley makes more sense for MIN. I would do either and I would think that the Caps' FO would as well, but you never know.

Maybe Lacombe is pryable from the Ducks. And RyJo appears on outside-looking-in with Sabres. Leafs do. Appear to be signing Mike Koster.

Gophers know dmen.

Lacombe - Faber
Johnson - Chesley
Koster - Rinzel
Mittlestadt

Could be solid NHL blueline someday

I like the premise but I do not think the Caps give up a first in this deal. Chesley and a second is probably around what I could see them giving up for Rossi as they are pretty high on Chesley from my understanding.

Devils can't trade their 2025 2nd as it is conditional to the Jake Allen trade, so would have to just be the WPG pick locked down.

That said, I would do this trade.

One correction - Rossi didn’t play much with Kaprizov and Boldy at all. In fact, his linemates most of the year were 3rd/4th liners and the 2nd PP unit.
