Obviously he’d never waive his NMC, but I think if you were to dump him without retention you’d either be getting nothing or a very small return back.

Just wait till summer of 2025....don't resign Tavares and Marner and hopefully use that new found cap wisely.
Canes say no to one year of Marner
No thanks to Elvis even if giving away free
The usual foolish love for Roy and Pesce for six years.

You’re not getting that much for Marner for a cap dump. These trades are beyond delusional. If you’re cap dumping Marner for Necas … you’re not getting all those assets in return. Plus… Marner isn’t going anywhere. Same with Tavares. Edmunson isn’t signing that cheap. The Lilly trade doesn’t make much sense for Washington.

Oh boy, bringing Quenneville back. Would love to see that circus, especially coming out of TOR.

And my word, CBJ would accept (though I get this is all just an exercise). Honestly, if anyone wants Elvis for free, he’s yours. I’d be willing to retain for maybe a mid-rounder or something.

Shouldn’t you be cheering on Dubas on a Pittsburgh thread?

Can’t let Marner walk for nothing lol and I’d like to hear your plans for the leafs D? Seems like a lot of Dubas boot lickers on this site want more small puck movers on the blue line when it hasn’t worked for the last 8 years.

I think merzlikens is actually a good goalie stuck on a horrible team.

Nonsense. Marner has a full NMC....let's have some logic to where he agree to a trade destination. And what teams that he might agree to traded too who has cap?
Look at the Leafs roster.....Bertuzzi, Domi, Samsonov, Jones, Benoit, Brodie, Tavares...all these players were signed by the Leafs without compensation going back to their previous.
Look at your roster your just posted. You signed UFAs, Lindholm, Pesce, Roy, Monahan, Stecher.....all signed without compensation, but somewhere the Leafs are entitled to compensation.
That's just homer selfish.
Regarding the the Leafs signing of UFA Dmen. It's just unwise to sign 30 year Dmen to long term contracts. Crazy to sign players who have peaked and likely will be the decline very soon. That has nothing to do with size....It's NHL playing ability.

Slightly disagree. The Jackets are not likely to give up assets to get rid of Elvis. Buyout is the most likely option. No one wants Elvis and I don’t blame them.

Just b/c I don’t agree with your nonsensical trades or your woeful FA signings, doesn’t make a Dubasite. Get over your self bud 😂; there aren’t just two options - pro Dubas or pro ‘some uniformed hack over-reacting on cap friendly’.
Everyone entitled to an opinion and I have time for any Leafs fan , but stay on planet earth and incorporate a little common sense

No, I meant we get a mid-rounder, not the other way around.

It’s cheaper (in real dollars) to retain than to buy out, and limits the years he is on the books. IMO, it’s the preferable option, if possible.

Then he’s all yours!

Goalies are voodoo. Unless you luck into a Saaros, Vasilvesky, Shesterkin, etc., it’s so difficult to predict. Particularly in a league where scoring is increasing, and even great goalies have diminishing save percentages and GAA.

We see it all of the time, across good teams and bad teams. Elvis could very well turn the corner in TOR, but so much more goes into that than “he’s on a horrible team.”

IMO, it’s the BOS’ and CAR’s of the world who have such profoundly great D systems that they can turn most any G into a great one.

The cost to dump Tavares probably cancels out what you’d get in a trade for Marner, maybe a bit more

Again, these are 2 players making 22 million dollars combined, both rentals with full NMCs.
