I don’t know if Rangers would rather have Anderson at 5.5 or Trouba at 8 but I’m sure Rags fans will tell me. Through in Barron as a sweater because Trouba is the better player.

Montreal retains 25% on Trouba, Anaheim is looking for a top 4 right handed D and you know Verbeek will love to have him and his leadership on a young team that is trying to take a step forward and at a reduced cap hit (6 mill)

Is Trouba, two 1sts, a 2nd and a good D prospect enough for Zegras? I think so. That’s a lot of value for a guy I don’t think is as valuable as some believe.

I will admit I have a very positive view on what Engström will develop into.
I think the Rangers could use another piece in this (a 2nd or 3rd), the value seems to be good all around otherwise.
Not sure if all the parties would be on board though.

I have a pretty positive view on Engstrom as well, but you’re still likely looking at a 2nd pairing guy at a position of organizational strength.

I’m not sure how the Rangers feel about this but interesting fact is that their young right D in Schneider is currently playing above Trouba in the playoffs.. 8 mill for Trouba on the 3rd pairing is very far from ideal. He’s their captain though, so it’s interesting.

I think the Ducks would do this though. I think they’re interested in moving Zegras and Verbeek stated they’re looking for a top 4 right D this offseason. I could see him wanting a Vet with leadership to help this young Ducks team take the step to contention sooner rather than later. They also get a lot of value in the form of futures though so it’s a win win for them imo.

I’d love to add Trouba to pair with Mintyukov but I wouldn’t trade Zegras for this

There is no significant asset coming back which is what would be needed for Pat to think about trading Z

Edit: wait, you’re using Anaheim to retain on Trouba?! Hard pass

I tried to go quality over quantity but Habs strength is at D, specifically left D and so is Anaheim’s. Maybe they consider taking all of that draft capitol and turning it into a different player in a separate deal.

Newhook cost us a 1st and a 2nd. Now imagine Zegras’ cost. This is actually lower than most would suggest. Now think about how much it costs to move Anderson.

Trouba's not going anywhere... he called NYR as his trade destination because his wife wanted to go there. He has a full NMC and he isn't waiving it.

And we move Anderson which would probably cost more than a 1st alone.

No he won't, and we have absolutely 0 need for montreal to move him, this is a ridiculously high price to pay for zegras of all players

Nah a high price to pay for Zegras would be Ghule. Trading only a late 1st, 2nd and a couple D prospects who will likely never play for us isn’t a big deal.

And Anderson absolutely would cost that much to move. We don’t need to move him yet, but we have the picks so why not.

I’m not a big fan of Zegras, but if management wants to acquire him it will be because they think St. Louis can get him to another level with his play away from the puck. If they do this is the type of package I would want us to trade for him, rather than Guhle like some have suggested.

He would easily be the most skilled player on our roster, it’s all about whether or not he’s willing to improve his overall game. We won’t trade for him unless we’re convinced he will.

Didn't know that, but it doesn't make a difference. Almost all players immediately list all Canadian teams when they submit those lists.

He went there with his wife (for her career) and he thinks it's the best place to live in the world.

Doesn’t matter what he thinks though. If they want to trade him they will and with him currently on the 3rd pairing making 8 mill they will probably want to sooner than later. Especially with Schneider there to take his spot.

Are you going to trade for an 8m/y player who doesn't want to play for you?

Typically no, but what is he going to do, retire?

Maybe the Rangers will be nice enough to trade him somewhere close.

He already has improved his game significantly this season, and if we're just going to try and use the draft capital to replace Zegras, why wouldn't we just hang onto Zegras.

We've been over the pieces that would be of interest on the habs roster. This year's top 10 pick, Reinbacher, or slafkovsky. Outside of those pieces, we've no interest in loosing Zegras, one of them would be required as the base of the trade.

No more so than the idea that's we'd give up Zegras for this, let alone eat 25% of Troubas contract to boot.

You know what Zegras is. He’s an overrated black hole away from the puck and even when he has the puck he constantly turns it over to avoid contact. We all know the positives about his game, but those mean nothing unless the negatives disappear. That’s not guaranteed to happen.

There is a reason they’re going to trade him. Anaheim fans want to act like he’s Pastrnak… he’s FAR closer to Laine,
