Too much too soon. Need another season to let pieces fall into place. Spending cap and trading assets to advance into purgatory again would make the rebuild moot. Patience. One more year.

Wait a year. You'll be able to get a Boeser type for almost nothing. Plenty of teams will have cap problems the next 2 years, the cap still aint going up much when that Arizona team really screwed growth in the league.

Marner hysteria has officially hit rock bottom. Zero chance Leafs move him to the Habs, and less than zero chance that that package gets it done 😂

Pass on one year of Mitch for a package that will likely set Toronto up with their top pair RHD for the next ten years.

I agree with the guy above, wait till next off season and see what UFAs become available. Who knows, could sign Marner or Draistle and pass Toronto as contenders

What do you think Marner package from the Habs would have to be?

So for you it's either sign him to what's likely a 13 AAV contract or let him walk in FA l?

There is literally zero chance the leafs trade him; he has a full NMC (maybe you should google it) + he’s an incredibly valuable player. Not many 100 point wingers playing PP1 & PK1. I doubt he’ll make $13M but Tre can deal with that next summer

the reckoning is coming for the Leafs. They really blew it with all those massive contracts. They were given a generational talent in Matthews but instead became a cautionary tale.

The Habs in a parallel universe sign PLD to a massive deal and the leafs walk away from Tavares. I wonder which universe the Leafs are better off?!?

Just sit back and enjoy their decline

Don't have to Google about something I already know, just think it is a possibility if contract talks this summer don't go managements way.

I would honestly say there's no way he doesn't get 13 million. Cap going up, top 5 RW in the league and has watched the Leafs cave in every contract negotiation with their stars so far.

This is a hypothetical site though and I was only asking a hypothetical question.

Hypothetically speaking then - why would Marner waive (in his contract year) to leave Leafs & Matthews to go play with a bottom 5 team. Not to mention a hated arch rival, he’d cement himself as most hated athlete in Toronto sports history.
Even hypothetically - hopefully you see how ridiculous the idea is. Like I said, no chance he gets traded to the Habs 🤦🏻

Yes an imaginary trade proposal is always ridiculous, it's kind of what the fun of this site is lol

You can make up whatever scenario you want to justify the trade, also part of the fun of this site.

In this one let's say that Marner has priced himself out of Toronto, so they shop him, MTL has the best offer for him and the team approaches him about accepting the trade. See that's how a hypothetical works

Ah yes because Marner wanting more than management is willing to give is ridiculous....... And the team with a deep prospect pool, young talent, cap space and high draft pick would definitely not be the one in a position to give up the best package..... Both are Ludacris and not at all within the realm of reality

Man thank God healthcare is free on Canada for your eventual break down if Marner leaves. Hopefully though you just have to deal with him getting a giant contract that stagnates this Leafs team for their contending window, that will be less costly to our tax dollars

I’m worried about you though - to honestly think that the Leafs would trade one of their best players when they are competing for the cup, or that Marner would waive to join a bottom 5 team in his contract year - seek help. Good luck 🤞

This is a terrible idea for the Canadiens. The odds are that the player Montreal selects with the fifth overall pick will be worth far more over the course of his career in Quebec than the value of having Marner for one non-playoff year, and if Marner is going to re-sign with Montreal in 2025, you can wait until 2025 for him to do it because you're not contending for anything this coming season.

Fair point, but even more ridiculous from Leafs & Marner perspectives:
1/ Leafs - in the middle of their competitive window (AM34 for this + 4 more years) will trade their 2nd best player for cap dumps & futures🤯
2/ Marner - in a contract year no less - will waive his NMC to leave his buddy Matthews and play for a bottom 5 team & a hated divisional rival 🤯🤯

Truly one of the most nonsensical proposals I’ve seen 🤦🏻

Habs don't need another undersized winger that disappears when the playoffs come around.
