Not close on value or needs of the blue jackets on that Jenner trade.

Okay, but have you considered that Buffalo does need those parts they're trading for and doesn't want the parts they're trading out? That's what is important, after all.

Didn’t think of that. I need to start being more considerate of my opposition.

Why are we giving up assets to acquire a player who makes our team worse in Laughton?

Naa, even if you do have some personal vendetta against Laughton, and he had a bit of a down year, he'd be making your bottom-6 and PK stronger + brings leadership and work ethic into your young team. Flyers had 4th best PK, Laughton played 2nd most in PP of Flyers forwards, only Poehling had 5sec/game more. And just because for some people points are what matters, Laughton had 8 SH points, while Sabres as a team scored 7 goals SH.

And about that trade, even if the value is kinda close for what Flyers probably would want, I think they'd still decline that. They really don't need more small LHD or RW. Flyers FO and Tortorella really values him, and they had many teams interested on him, but they're not trading him for just the sake of trading.

" "Fair value" wasn't going to cut it, Brière said, because for everything Laughton has brought to the Flyers, especially in the past two years as the organization set out on its rebuild, he means a whole lot more than that. "

He's an absolute liability 5v5 and the Sabres PK was already plenty good.
Not to mention the Flyers had one of the worst PKs in the league the 3 years prior to this year where he was still the most common forward on the ice.
So it's far less likely that he was the cause of success, and far more likely that it was Torts' system mixed with the rise of York, Seeler, and Poehling.
Can't discount the removal of Staal and Risto from the PK either.
No need to spend quality assets on that.

Ofc Torts (or Shaw) is big part of the improved PK and the addition of Poehling did help for sure. But as said, he's been big part of their PK and could eat minutes in there to let Tuch, Cozens or someone else to focus more on 5v5/PP.

And just wondering why Oilers, Rangers, Leafs, Avs or even Sabres were interested of him, if he'd be as bad as Sabres fans say. At least the GMs of the contenders (and Sabres) can see something in him.

If he would be going to be traded to Sabres, I think Krebs would be part of the deal and could help both teams. Sabres would get more physical 3C and Flyers younger reclamation project.

I don't see how a guy can be part of the worst PK year over year for 3+ years and then when everything else changes and it gets better he's seen as a positive piece of it? Everything else is what caused the improvement.
