Detroit should take that.

Especially if Veleno wants too much money as a RFA.

Yeah I didn't really know how much to give him since his last contract was 850k and his Point production so I gave him 950k but thats the exact reason I specifically left myself 2.9M in cap space incase some contract $ are a little off

I don't think that trade is bad for the hawks necessarily, but I would rather them spend a little money in UFA to get a RD to play with one of Del Mastro or Kaiser next season. Would like to see someone like Tanev, but I know he likely signs somewhere that has a better chance of competing.

Veleno signed a "prove it" deal last summer.

In other words "prove you're an NHL player."

He did that at least this season and now will be looking for a pay bump.

I have him at 1.5 mil but I've read in different places he'll get 2 mil but I just can't justify it.

I know he's a C in his prime but I trade him if that's what he wants.

Doubt the Hawks trade a 3rd for Kulak. They would much rather just sign a RHD in the offseason Then it only costs money. If Oilers need to get rid of Kulak's cap hit they can send a 3rd to cover it.

not really any need to get rid of his contract, just don't have the roster space for him, want Broberg in his spot next year

Hawks definitely wouldn't pay anything for Kulak. If the Oilers really wanted to move his contract, Hawks MIGHT take him for future considerations to be the 7th D for the next two seasons til his contract expires. But that's probably as good as it gets in a deal w/ the Hawks.

That's idiotic. Edmonton paid a 2nd for Kulak and it was money well spent. He's far from a cap dump, and he'd certainly be higher than #7 D on the Hawks ****ty roster. He's #5 on a far superior Oilers roster.

First off, what difference does it make what Edmonton gave up to acquire him? And I never said Kulak was a cap dump. I said the Hawks wouldn't give up anything to get him. Hawks left side is set w/ their own young guys. Vlasic, Korchinski and either Kaiser or DelMastro. So Kulak isn't replacing any of them. And on the right side, Hawks have Jones and Murphy. Again, Kulak isn't knocking either of those guys out of the lineup. So maybe he's the 3rd pair RD but more likely that veteran 7th guy. Which is why the Hawks aren't paying anything for him. Hawks can get a 7th D just as easily in free agency. If Oilers want to keep him or trade him elsewhere, that's fine. That probably makes more sense. Actually, w/ the roster above, I'd probably keep Kulak and not sign Oesterle to be honest.

Sprong can't play in the top 6. He doesn't even try defensively.

Pretty incredible that you think a guy who plays #5 for one of the best teams couldn't crack the roster on one of the worst. awesome face

Pretty incredible that you don't understand the priorities of a rebuilding team stacked with LD prospects. Why trade a 3rd for Kulak when they can get similar production from a UFA for nothing but money.

If they were "stacked" at LHD you wouldn't be talking about UFA signings, lol.

Probably because they AREN'T stacked. They've got 1 or 2 okay prospects who should be developing in the minors but are in the NHL due to a derth of actual NHL players on the roster. Any smart GM would welcome a guy like Kulak as it aids in the proper development of prospects.

Probably because we are looking for RD.
