I might have missed where Brady became Matthew? If his name was Smith, my guess is people look at him differently.

Swayman is a super talented young goaltender who’s put up two seasons at his age better than any of the premium goalies lately. Fine keeping him. Just throwing out a potential deal if Brady wants out

Hasn’t goaltending been a primary issue for Ottawa’s seven years of irrelevance?

No shot. Even if you're arguing that Swayman has equal value to Brady (which he does not), you're still missing the point where Swayman could come to Ottawa, sign a 1 year deal then leave as free agent. All around this trade makes no sense. Sorry mate

So you propose a preposterous trade and then you return to taunt senators fans?

Obviously an extension would need to be put in place as a condition of the deal. I would assume that with any deal with Ottawa and a player within two years of leaving

I do find it ironic that Jeremy Swayman is being viewed as an after thought here when his stat line for a young goalie is as good as any in a while. His GSaX/60 is around the top goalies in the league for the past two years.

Do you guys view Brady as a young Cam Neely?

By stating that goaltending has been an issue for the Senators and one of the big reasons that they haven’t made the playoffs in seven years?

Making a statement that every Senators fan should know is true is taunting? Or is taking offense to it avoidance?

I find it comical that teams with bad goaltending seem to think it’s easy to find one. I also included a former first round pick who is a top 75 prospect in the mix. Also took a negative contract back that I immediately buried.

Not sure what Ottawa fans expect Brady to secure on a trade. NJ isn’t trading Nemec for him.

laugh laugh Boston is missing multiple High end pieces to nab Brady Tkachuk. This offer is a major joke.

Detroit will offer you Rasmussen and Veleno for Pasta. That's how far off this trade really is.

Neutral here, this is a brutal offer.

Come on. Treating Swayman like he is worth fringe third liners like Rasmussen and Veleno? OK.

Why do teams that have crap goalies say it is so easy to secure one when a young goalie with Swayman’s track record has been traded like once.

Come on Jeremy Swayman is a great Goaltender, But come on his value isn't worth anywhere near a Brady Tkachuk level forward. Sorry but Goalies don't return high level forwards. Give your head a shake here man.

There has been one goalie with Swayman’s track record and age ever traded.

Does Taylor Hall’s trade to Chicago drive all forward values? I think people are running too much with cap casualties and driving assumptions on values.

Lots of comments about goalie values, but generally teams don’t trade great goalies barring cap relief required. Lots of journeyman types like Husso, Reimer, Lyon, Korpisalo, and Forsberg are ready available.

Swayman. Not so much.

I do see people saying goalies are easy to acquire, but why do so many teams have bad goalies?

Completely OK sigh people saying Swayman doesn’t carry that type of value, but treating him like he’s a mediocre player as opposed to a young all star with a GSAx/60 in the top 5 in the league seems odd

If teams really want to have a goalie with good statistics, they need to fix their roster and their defensive systems.

Goalies are often a product of their system. There's a reason just about every goalie that's gone through Boston in the last 15 years has done extremely well, and it's not because every single one of them is elite.

If you're trading for a goalie, you're pulling them out if the system that surrounded them and putting them in your own, which typically sucks. In general, the vast majority of goalies are considered 70% environment and system. And that has shown to be accurate from goalies who have swapped teams over seasons. That's why teams do not value goalies, because they just don't transfer.

---

Also, if every single person says the exact same thing, its probably worth listening to lol

Boston has an outstanding talent evaluation and coaching program for goalies.

There is a stat called GSaX that adjusted for team advantages.

Most trades on this site are one sided and will never happen. Discussing relative values are fascinating, but about 95 percent of all trade discussed suck. You just think this one does.

I assume if Brady is traded, Ottawa fans will hate the return. Its probably a reason he won’t be traded unless he pushes for one

The problem with trading for a goalie is that Swayman could come into Ottawa and be sub-par for us. Boston has great structure so I do think goalie stats are inflated for the bruins. If you're trading a guy like Brady it needs to be for a top line forward/top pairing defenseman ++. Trading Brady for a goalie basically 1 for 1 is absurd.

Anyways, Ottawa won't trade Brady.

Advanced stats that say your opinion on Boston’s defensive structure is overstated. Their dependence on top shelf goaltending has been carrying them the past two years.

Monty’s system actually puts more pressure on goalies than Cassidy’s. His reliance on offensive zone pushes from defenders is known. What they’ve done better than Ottawa is they find complementary players to their stars. Heinen, Debrusk, and Frederic have been very good defensively. That said, two of their four lines consistently have players on them that aren’t defensively sound. Montgomery is smart enough to try and pair offensive savants with defensively sound linemates,

Either way, I’m not going to argue about Ottawa’s defensive structure. While I like a lot of your individual defensemen, I dislike how your forwards outside of Giroux and Tkachuck play in the D-Zone. I’ve always thought most of that was coaching expectations coupled with the fact that you have been playing young forwards regardless of their D-Zone effort,

I do think you are giving a pass on your goalies here. They’ve been truly bad. Curious to see what they do next, because anyone that had watched Korpisalo play knew that contact was going to be poor.
