The Marner trade really isn't going to happen. Nashville will not be okay with giving up fair value. They know Toronto is dealing from a position of weakness. Marner likely doersn't waive for Nashville either. Look what Chicago got for Pat Kane, when they dealt him to the Rangers. That is more likely than the trade or similar trades for Marner you think you might get.

Ottawa only considers Pageau with retained salary if Norris is unable to start the season. There is no room for Ottawa to add a $2.5M 4th line center.... There just is no way he unseats any of Stutzle, Norris, or Pinto.... Hell Ridley Greig either... Too many centerman options in Ottawa to waste a pick or the cap space on Pageau.

:tearsofjoy That's hilarious if you think Ottawa gives up their 1st rounder for Markstrom lol.... They wouldn't trade that pick for Hellybuyck... None of those are even close.... Not even in the realm of minute possibility....

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WN88</b></div><div>Toronto actually sends their 2026 pick. And contract status is irrelevant if you’re an RFA. In fact, it can be more desirable for a team because they can choose how much they want to pay the player they want to acquire (assuming no arb), rather than acquiring a player and possibly needing a 3rd-party team retain. Regardless, kind of a bizarre thing to fixate on out of this entire post lol.</div></div>
No just I noticed you didn't seem to eager to add good players on expiring contracts.... Both Lillejgren and Robertson would have arbitration rights.... Nothing to fixate on just I noticed you figured Ottawa would give up a pick 3 spots away and will have to pay both more than what they made this year.... But the Leaf pick has players with money retained and on a good contract with good term.... Just to point out why it's unrealistic. Teams don't look for guys with expiring RFA contracts for a reason.

This would set Ottawa back big time. How do you figure Kubalik gets a raise? He truthfully will be looking for a PTO in the offseason. A combo of Georgiev and Forsberg might actually be worse than the tandem we had this season.... Plus Hamonic in the top 4? This team will absolutely be in the thick of the 1st overall pick.... whiuch means Rantanen will be leaving UFA.... Plus instead of spending $5M on Girard....just qualify Brannstrom.... same style of player only Brannstrom was more productive. These moves don't help Ottawa out at all

So let me get this straight? Sens send a pick 3 spots back to Toronto and get players without contracts.... Toronto uses their pick 3 spots up and land players with term and on good contracts? ummmmm yeah.....

Over valuing Rantanen by a ton. Instead of actually reading and COMPREHENDING what I'm tellinjg you, you put your dunce cap on and make it worse.

You've lost the plot if you think someone's contract situation drains that much value.
Completely unrealistic, my man. That's a ludicrous deal.</div></div>
How is it unrealistic? How many points do you think Tkachukl gets playing alongside MacKinnon? His usual 80 points or so? Try 90-95 points.... which would be like 10 points less than Rantanen.... Rantanen doesn't fight, is never near the league lead in hits, and shots.... Brady is top 5 in both every single season. He is the game's best power forward and it isn't even close. They get Brady for 4 years at $8.2M.... Colorado will get 10 more points for $4M more in cap hit, receive less hits, less intimidation, Brady fights.... The issue is, Ottawa has done too much losing and the point is to get aherad of him asking for a trade.... Rantanen who has his cup will take the overpayment to play here. Otttawa losing so much put themselves in that spot. If anything it's a deal Ottawa doesn't do and roll the dice they make the playoffs. But if a deal like that came up, I'd consider it.....

Brady is nearing that place where it's time to ask for a trade out of Ottawa.... If that happens? We likely get a very small package back for him. Rantanen will be expensive, but has a cup ring, can be a 100 point player but will be paid equally for what he produces. Yes Brady will provide better bang for the buck at his current salary but like I said, if Ottawa fails to make the playoffs next season he might start hinting he wants out. Moving him to Colorado for that package ensures we get solid pieces for him. Most of Colorado's fans don't see that Rantanen scores 104 points playing next to MacKinnon... Brady is basically an 80 point player playing with Norris and Pinto....ROLMFAO.... Like if Brady was playing nexct to MacKinnon he's still likely to hover around the 80 point mark..... ROFLAMO.... He'd be close to 90-95 points, lead the league in hits, fights, shots.... Where does Rantanen fit in those areas? Colorado would be STUPID not to take it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>That probably doesn't get Rantanen alone even with only 1 year left on his current deal.</div></div>
The thinking is this.... Col gets Tkachuk for 4 years at $8.3M.... If he plays with MacKinnon, he's a sure-fire 40G 50A 90Pts player who is the game's premiere power forward. Ranntanen will be more productive but likely less productive than he was in Colordao. Ottawa likely has to ante up $10.5M to keep him. So Ottawa is saving Col $2.3M on that exchange.... Georgiev and Forsberg are a wash, but again Col receives $500K more cap space, meaning they get the game's premiere Power Forward and close to $3M in cap space. With the cap going up Brady locked up for 4 more years and playing with MacKinnon his contract would look like gold.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Rob Blake can't afford to admit that he made a grievous mistake acquiring Pierre-Luc DuBois and then signing him to that contract because it would mean his immediate dismissal, so PLD will survive into his NMC. My lugubrious prediction is that he gets better next season, improves in 2025-2026 too, and then when it's time to replace Anze Kopitar, regresses into the surly underachiever we all foresaw he would be.</div></div>
I can see that happening as well.... It was more from an amusement perspective to see people's thoughts. I do agree Blake might have an issue.... But if he gets out from under it for a guy like Norris? Norris can be a regular 25G+ center. If that's the best you'd get for PLD who will be impossible toi trade with that NMC as MTL would likely be the only other team he'd agree to move to. I think L.A. considers it at the least.

I can see L.A. trying to offload PLD. He doesn't seem to be fitting in very well in L.A. So I doubt they acquire anyone to play with him unless they can't move him and they....well possibly....

Ottawa says no to that in a heartbeat. What do they need Pageay for? We don't need a $2.5M 4th line center.... Which is what he'd be as he does not push any of Stutzle, Norris, or Pinto out. If we need to Ridley Greig is also a better 3rd line center option.... Or we move Giroux off the wing to play center etc.... Ottawa doesn't need to trade away a pick, and pick up $2.5M of cap hit for something they absolutely don't need.
Calgary takes that deal in a heartbeat.
Tor takes that deal if they have their defense a little more figured out as that will again be their downfall in the first round this year.

Tkachuk has 4 years left at $8.2M.... You put Brady on with MacKinnon and Tkachuk likely puts up close to what Raantanen would. Only you're paying Tkachuk $8.2M instead of $10.5M+ that it will cost you to keep Raantenan. Georfiev and Forsberg is a wash... Ottawa takes on cap in the exchange. The exchange for Ottawa is just to get a different piece to see if it fits or not.

Wahlstrom does not play ahead of Giroux or Joseph... I mean he might not even make the team... and why would you spend more than $5M on a 4th line that wouldn't be much better than the 4th line we currently have? Plus Greig is not ready for 2nd line minutes yet.... If Ottawa is trying to make the playoffs next season, I don't think this lineup makes it.

No this is a strong draft, with a lot of very good defensemen available in it, especially on the RHD side of the rink. Marchenko is solid but projected more for a 2nd line. Ottawa passes, especially when they will land a talent that will produce like Marchenko but at ELC wage for 3 seasons if they select a forward.... Celebrini, Levshunov, Demidov, Lindstrom, Eiserman, Parekh, & Dickenson would be just to inticing to draft. Ottawa definitely passes.

Yeah Ottawa likely sticks with Batherson, under Martin (structure coach) he would be on pace for 40G 39A 79pts. At $4.9M for 3 more years? They wouldn't trade two major pieces off their roster for Boeser, a cap dump (Mikheyev), a 7th round prospect, a 2nd round prospect and a late 1st rounder. Ottawa isn't looking for futures, they are trying to make the playoffs next season. Batherson is also in the conversation for an "A" once Giroux is gone.

Neither Ottawa or Detroit make those trades. Hedman only has 1 year left on hos deal until he's a UFA.... Detroit isn't going to give up Edvinsson, Berggren, and a 1st rounder for 1 year of Hedman unless Hedman is re-signed to a long-term deal first.
Ottawa definitely doesn't make that trade. The premiere power forward in the game for a decent defense prospect, a cap dump in Jeannot, and a 50 point center which Ottawa doesn't need with Stutzle, Norris, Pinto, Greig, and Giroux all capable of playing center in the top 9. Not to mention Ottawa isn't going to weaken their current roster for futures. They want to make the playoffs, so bigger pieces would have to come off the roster to make that trade work.

Not even close.... Not even if you retain 50% of Brodie's salary are you getting two draft picks, especially a 2nd. I still maintain the Leafs are going to have to give up a draft pick to get rid of even 50%of his salary at the deadline. Think? The Leafs are calling teams regarding help to their blueline.... Why on earth would someone give up anything to a team that is looking to trade a defenseman and still looking for defensive help??? Especially considering he is one of the better defensive defenseman on the team that doesn't defend very well. Everyone knows why the Leafs would want to get rid of Brodie and his cap hit. No one is going to give you anything for that.

Not a chance tat Brodie fetches a 2nd and a 5th. Tor would likely have to add a pick to unload that cap hit.
