You'd really trade 2 first round picks for a 37 year old defensemen?

Pretty sure no one laughs (except for those of us reading you post).

37 YO Crosby isn't laughing at a contract that doesn't see him take a payout and extends him until retirement.

Dubas doesn't laugh at 2 1st round picks for a 37 YO Letang singed until he retires.

Letang doesn't laugh at playing for his hometown team with his buddy Crosby for their final 3 years.

Montreal doesn't laugh at getting 3 top players and contending for the cup over the next 3 years.

Habs fans don't laugh at getting 3 star players (even if 2 are aging) and competing for a cup for the next 3 years.

Yup pretty sure the only ones laughing are those of us laughing at your comment.

Oh good one 😂 Sid will absolutely never wear a habs jersey and if you want a top pairing d half retained it costs more than two possibly late 1sts . Anyone with any hockey iq at all knows this .

Guentzel and Crosby want more to play and pay in a Canadian market. Dubas might not be allowed to retain that much dead money on Letang either.

You're asking FSG to eat $12m in dead money. No ownership group is absorbing that money without a significant return.

Letang himself is worth one late first. He's still playing 24:40/game and producing at elite rates at ES. He's much weaker defensively than he used to be, but as a 2RD, he's well above average. The $12m in dead money is what the other 1st is for.

LMAO, really?!

What did it cost the Canes to acquire Burns? 2 prospects who aren't with the organization anymore, a goalie prospect who is never making the league and a 3rd round pick.

Hanafin?! Who was younger, better and on a better contract got a late 1st, an undrafted RD and a 3rd both picks were conditional and in 2025 and Hanafin was half retained

Do you even follow hockey?!

LMAO, are you even reading the other commentary? You are the only one thinking Letang at 36 gets 2 1sts + worth of value. I know it's small but try using the thing between your ears. Letang is worth more to the Pens then he is on the open market, that's why he won't be traded but the value here is waaaayyyy more than he is worth

TBF, the Burns comp is closer.

Larsson was only 22-23 years old and ate top pair minutes at that age.

Letang is 37 in 2 weeks, players that old almost never return a lot

Burns is a forward whose defensive game made a prime Letang look like Lidstrom. He gets sheltered in the CAR system that is great defensively, but in isolation, Burns is Karlsson with size in that he is very strong facilitating offense and a liability defensive. And most fans are incapable of differentiating size with defensive aptitude. So while Letang is far from his prime, as the comparison shows, he's still outproducing Burns with harder deployment.

Oh that’s right . I forgot teams only made trades in a vacuum and never analyzed how it affects the team , market , and income to the franchise . Silly me. You’re right. Letang and Crosby have such little value we should probably throw in 3 1sts and we’ll take those horrifically awful Anderson and Gallagher contracts back .
I must have forgot that every team in the nhl just works to helps the habs get better .
Must be why they are so wildly successful lately .

This is some of the most astonishingly pathetic hockey knowledge I’ve seen and I would truly be embarrassed if I was you. You’re embarrassing your fellow habs fans

Crosby isn't taking a discount to play in MTL. I have my doubts he'll take a discount anywhere including PIT at this rate.

That Slafkovsky contract. I don't see it happening. Either from the player side or the team side.
If Slafkovsky thinks he's on the cusp of a breakout, he'll play next year to cash in on that.
As for as MTL, you don't sign guys after 1 year of production. That can go sideways so quickly. There is no need or hurry to resign him. If he stays where he's at right now next year, that same contract in place is a huge overpayment.
If that's what you are willing to pay this year, any increase from that cap hit that you might pay, is negligible and not worth the risk assessment.
In other words, he'd have to have a whole lot more production than 16 goals and 44 points to be worth almost 8 million as those numbers are 4-5 mil range given a RFA discount.
Odds of him being worth 8m from what he put up this year isn't worth the risk that he doesn't blow those numbers out the water and hence get a much smaller contract.
It's bad business to extend him at that rate.

-oooooh boooooooy. so letang has a full NMC so he has the power to say no to such a trade. 99% sure he will be the one to veto the trade.
-dubas would be chased out of town for moving letang or malkin, espcially when both are still playing well (though not at the height of their powers)
-if kyle dubas even wanted to move a defenseman hed probably move erik karlsson, not the guy who has won 3 championships and played his entire career in pittsburgh
-jake guentzel is more than likely going to be under contract with a different team in a championship window.
-lets just pretend for the moment that youre right to assume that crosby wants out of pittsburgh. his first choice is to play in colorado with his best friend nathan mackinnon.

They can sign 50 year old Jagr while they are at it, too. Hell, bring back Plekanec and they can finally have the Pleks-Jags combo that Habs fans dreamed about 15 years ago.
