Canes pass. KK isn't overpaid for what he can do, he's overpaid because Carolina don't have the appropriate spot to put him in because Rod has a mancrush on Staal. There's a world where Carolina buy low on Graves, but not one where they should be swapping KK for him

I think Graves has a better track record of being able to play higher in the lineup but KK is younger and has the potential to move up in to a 3rd line role. Seems like a win-win. Especially based on roster needs of both teams

Deal makes a lot of sense actually. Both teams add a position of need and sometimes a change of scenery is good for players

I think at this point waters has lost his mind too much haha. If you ever get a chance to see mason I highly recommend it. He was in pittsburgh two years ago and was really amazing just on his own.

I don't think graves would be 3rd pair right off the bat. Probably play top 4 for a year or two so nikishin wouldn't be rushed into top 4 minutes. That seems more of the carolina way

If Graves were a righty then sure, but as it is they have Slavin and Orlov on the left already. Graves will only ever be a 3rd pairing defenseman next year, and I would wager they want to move Nikishin into the top 4 the year following.

He can - he did it his first year with the Caps I believe, and has played some offside for the Canes this season as well. Rod particularly prefers defensemen on their natural side however, so I imagine they will sign another RHD in the offseason.

What exactly does he do? 6 seasons with only one of them peaking 40 points. Bad defensively, bad offensively. Get him off this team. It's okay to admit the OS was a mistake. No need to die on this hill anymore man.

It's Drury's first full season and he's been like 3x as effective. Would much rather keep him as an effective 3C who will cost like half the price

KK had one mediocre season in a sheltered role and suddenly the price of 4.8m and a 1st+3rd is suddenly worth it. It's not. Drury has been wayyy better than KK and would be so much better as the 3C rather than paying a dude 4.8m to score 27 points.

It's the same way that Hamilton was the best defenseman in hockey, Pesce is the best RD in hockey, Slavin is the best LD in hockey, KK is a phenomenal 2C...
