yup, the package without retention on Boeser would be a pretty easy no from Vancouver but the retention on top is pretty funny.

There would be retention on Marner from a 3rd team... And Vancouver could gets RHDs...

Miky - Petey - Marner
Hogs - Miller - Laff
Joshua - Blueger - Garland
Aman - Suter - Pod
DG

Hughes - Roy
Z - Walker
Soucy - Tanev

It's a comp to the Tkachuk trade... Expect no prospect or 4rth going to Toronto and a 3rd going to Vancouver...

Retention makes up the difference between 115 point player and Boeser and that 3rd coming

The issue with that is I don't see us landing all 3 of the top RHD on the market, at best its probably around 15mil in RHD alone we wouldnt have to cap space to do that, we also would still be looking for another top 6 winger, Laf as good as he's been isn't a top 6 guy. Not to mention how popular Brock is in the locker room, trading him after the year he has had and all he's been through would just leave a stain in the locker room that could not be repaired. Vancouver is much better off Keep Brock and Fill and use our 1st for another top 6 winger Admittedly who wouldn't be as good as marner but would make much more sense from a basic roster construction pov and without making anymore wholes

I had 17 mill in cap space left over from the offence... The Canucks have a ton of space next year once you sort through the offence

I saw him with Petey... But there is still 2.17 mill in remaining cap space, so you could use that (along with Laff's 2.5) and get a top 6 winger at 4.67 mill...

Mitch is also very popular in the room and would Gell in Van nicely with Petey, but didn't Boeser request a trade from the Canucks?

If we are to re-sign Z, Joshua and Blueger for their asking price it would leave us with just over 12mil in cap space to sign the 3 RHD and get another top 6 guy, this ofcourse would be under a 87.5mil cap. We'd also have to save some money for Marners next deal which would subtract even more from the roster with OEL's buyout rasing. I don't doubt Mitch would be popular In Vancouver's locker room, however, it just sends a bad message trading Brock.
After we have been so successful this year, the core knew it was it's last opportunity to try and win together if they didn't we would have moved a few core pieces. Obviously the core is a tight knitted group and didn't want that so to still move a guy after this much of a successful year they have had would be a slap of the face to them and would erode trust in management. As for Brock asking for a Trade it's a misconception there was never a trade request Vancouver asked him if he wanted a change of scenery which he said his Preference was to stay in vancouver but would work with the team if they where shopping him

Let's just say Tanev comes one a 1 year deal... Vancouver has the leverage on Marner bc of Petey... They could probably resign him to an 11 mill deal (let's just say)

4-5 mill rise in cap and the Tanev deal expiring would allow Van to do Marner's contract without much effect

Not debating whether or not Brock wants out right now... But he did ask for a trade... "At the end of the season, he publicly rescinded his trade request" To rescind a trade request, you must have had one int he first place

I think it would be a good message to the room trading for Marner bc it shows Alvin's belief in the team and the core...

If the retention's an issue, it could always go to a 3rd team (essentially covering OEL's hit)

Tanev isn't signing for only a single year he's going to have many teams calling him, so that part of the argument is a moot point, The reports of him Requesting the trade Did not come from a reliable source Sportsnet only reported it because it came from iMac who isn't a insider but is sportsnets Vancouver writer but he seems to be Is illinformed on this issue, Brock himself has said he didn't want out. Anyway it's a mootpoint,Marner is a good player but doesn't take us over the edge we are much better off Keeping Boeser and Hronek

Not to mention the increase from Boesers contract to Marners there's just value or reason for Vancouver to do this. Seems like it's a trade that just only helps the leafs

I don’t think the Canucks can afford adding Marner, retaining on Boeser, and signing Tanev, Roy, Walker, Joshua, Zadorov, and Blueger

I believe Marner takes Vancouver over the edge...

Take it from a guy who's not entirely high on Marner...

Retention doesn't need to happen from Van... could be 3rd team but too lazy to do it...

In case you want to see how, I can post a thread showing how the cap works

Can’t see the Canucks being interested in that, it doesn’t fit their needs. I’d be hesitant to deal Boeser for Marner 1 for 1, let alone add a 1st and Hronek on top. Yes, Marner is an upgrade on Boeser, but he’s not enough of an upgrade to justify paying nearly twice the salary with Vancouver’s current cap situation. This deal would fill the need for a top 6 winger, but would leave a much bigger hole on the defence with only about $8M in cap space to sign 3 top 4 defencemen. With the current market, you’d be insanely lucky to get even 2 guys with that cap space, getting 3 isn’t even a possibility.

Didn’t realize you were including retention on Marner as well, that makes sense

Still not sure the Canucks would do it though. Depends on if Marner would extend/what he’s asking for

Let's say there's an 11 by 8 extension in place...
