I could see Matthews and not Marner being in the Selke conversation this year. Matthews in the top 5 for Hart also. But He doesn't win either. Time will tell though.

For the Hart this year, it's really the Wild West, who knows... Matthews going for that Ovi record, Kuch most likely winning Art Ross, Mackinnon likely being just behind him while having more goals, McDavid with 100 assists, Hughes and Makar's seasons being insane, Reinhart, Hyman's 50 goals could net him some votes, Panarin being the be the player on the best team, Anthony Stolarz having a 2.02 GAA and .925 Save%, Demko/Hellebuyck/Bennington's resurgence, Nylander's speed through the Toronto ATM could get some appreciation

Reinhart's getting nearly 3 minutes a game on the PK, blocks a decent amount of shots and has 50. He isn't the best defensive forward, but of the best one's putting up the crazy offensive numbers. Selke isn't what it should be. If it was actually about the best two way forwards, the ballot would definitely include guys like Sissons and Garland.

Daccord has 46 starts, a 2.42 GAA, and a .917 sv%. He's got 3 shutouts which isn't exactly insane, but the rest of the stats are for a guy on a team that's missing playoffs.

Matthews is top 10, for forwards I think, in all defensive counting categories... That's why I think he should be in the top 5...

Yeah, 65 goals has been done 24 different times by 12 different players. It's special for sure, but a lot less special than 100 assists in a season, which has been done 13 times by just 3 different players: Gretzky (11 times), Lemieux and Orr (once each). McDavid has 96 assists with 10 games remaining.

TBF, like last time Matthews won MVP when him and McDavid + others were in the debate, the thing that excels Matthews over everyone else is his defensive capabilities...

McDavid's on ice defensive metrics, such as xGA, SCA and HDCA are better than Matthews'.

And? McDavid gets the Ozone starts against shutdown lines, Matthews is the shutdown line... He's top 10 in toughest in matchups vs elite players... That's what makes his goals so impressive
