Why would we pay to move Fast? Just don't overpay Pesce and find a replacement 2RD elsewhere, and there's no issue.

If they keep Guentzel, I’m guessing it takes at least $8M x 7, perhaps more. Maybe the Svechnikov deal at $7.75M by 8 gets it done, but have my doubts. The Canes would certainly be out of their comfort zone giving a 30yr old term, we’ll see. I think they definitely make a run at keeping him, but ultimately him staying will depend on him being agreeable to knowing he’d get more on the open market than what the Canes will offer. Is he OK with that?

If they’re giving term to either Pesce or Skjei, I’d hope it’d be Skjei. He’s going to hold up better than Pesce imho.

I also think they’ll need to make a decision on Kotkaniemi or Kuznetsov this summer. Can’t have both on roster making ~$4M.

It sounds like Pesce isn’t the keenest on returning, and in all likelihood, the Canes don’t want to meet his asking price around the 7mil range. I would imagine Guentzel probably takes that, or a number fairly similar to Svech’s deal. I know he turned down 8.5x8 from Pittsburgh, but I would hazard a guess he will lower his ask now that he is back on a contender. Might as well let Pesce walk, and keep Chatfield and Turbo.
